“Soon, you’re going to have to move out!”cried my neighbor as soon as he saw the largest tomato plant known to mankind,or at least known in my neighborhood.

One tiny 9-inch plant, bought for $ 1.25 in the spring.has already taken over much of my rose bed, covering much of other plants, and is well on its way to the front door.

Roses require a good deal of care, and if it weren’t for the pleasure they give。it wouldn’t be worth the work.As it is.I have a garden full of sweet-smelling roses for most of the year.Bushes must be pruned (剪枝) in early spring, leaving ugly woody branches until the new growth appears a few weeks later. It was the space available (可利用的) in the garden that led me into planting just one little tomato plant.A big mistake.

Soil conditions made just perfect for roses turn out be even more perfect for tomatoes. The daily watering coupled with full sun and regular fertilizing (肥料) have turned the little plant into a tall bush. The cage I placed around it as the plant grew has long since disappeared under the thick leaves.

Now the task I face in harvesting the fruit is twofold.First.I have to find the red ones among the leaves, which means I almost have to stand on my head.a(chǎn)nd once found I have to reach down and under, pick the tomatoes and withdraw(縮回)my full fist without dropping the prize so dearly won.I found two full-blown white roses completely hidden as I picked tomatoes in June. But they were weak and the leaves already yellow for lack of light.

Here I am faced with a painful small decision:To tear up a wonderful and productive tomato plant that offers up between ten and twenty ripe sweet tomatoes each day or say goodbye to several expensive and treasured roses.Like Scarlett in Gone With the Wind.I'll think about that tomorrow.

What are the requirements for the healthy growth of rose?

A.A lot of care and the right soil.           B.Frequent pruning and fertilizing.

C.Tomato plants grown alongside.    D.Cages placed around the roots.

A.it cost only$1.25         B.the soil was just right for it

C.there was room for it in the garden         D.the roses’branches needed to be covered

This year the writer’s roses were          .

A.removed from the rose bed           B.picked along with the tomatoes

C.mostly damaged by too much sunlight  D.1argely hidden under the tomato plant

By saying“the prize so dearly won”in paragraph 5,the writer wants to        .

A.show the difficulty in picking the tomatoes

B.show the hardship of growing the roses

C.express her liking for the roses

D.express her care for the tomatoes

In the situation described in the text, one good thing is that             .

What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow, orange, red?  【小題1】Do you prefer grays and blues? Then you are probably quiet, shy, and you would rather follow than lead. You tend to be pessimist. At least, this is what psychologists tell us, and they should know, because they have been seriously studying the meaning of color preference, as well as the effect that colors have on human beings.  【小題2】 If you happen to love brown, you did so, as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly
【小題3】 A yellow room makes most people feel more cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one; and a red dress brings warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day.  【小題4】 A black bridge over the Thames River, near London, used to be the scene of more suicides(自殺) than any other bridge in the area-until it was repainted green. The number of suicide attempts immediately fell sharply. Perhaps it would have fallen even more if the bridge had been done in pink or baby blue.
【小題5】 It is an established fact that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or gray.

A.On the other hand, black is depressing.
B.They tell us, among other facts, that we do not choose our favorite color as grow up—we are born with our preference.
C.The rooms are pained in different colors as you like.
D.If you do, you must be an optimist, a leader, an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement.
E. Light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active.
F. Life is like a picture or a poem, full of different colors.
G. Colors do influence our moods-there is no doubt about it.

Perhaps you are an average student with average intelligence. However, you can receive better grades if you want. Yes, even students with average intelligence can be top students without additional work. Here’s how:

1.Plan your time carefully. Make a list of your weekly tasks. Then make a schedule of your time. Be sure to set aside enough time to complete your normal reading and work assignments. Of course, studying shouldn’t occupy all of the free time on the schedule.

2.Make good use of your time in class. Listening to what the teacher says in class means less work later. Take notes to help you remember what the teacher says.

3.Skim before you read. Look over a passage quickly before you begin to read it more carefully. As you preview the material, you get some idea of the content and how it is organized. Later when you begin to read you will recognize less important material and you may skip some of these portions, Skimming(略讀)helps double your reading speed and improve your comprehension as well.

4.      . Go over your notes as soon as you can after class. Review important points mentioned in class as well as points you remain confused. If you know what the teacher will discuss the next day, skim and read that material, too. If you review your notes and textbook regularly, the material will become more meaningful and you will remember it longer. Regular review leads to improved performance on tests.

5.Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t worry excessively(過(guò)分地)about a single test.

There are other techniques that might help you with your studying. Improving your studying habits will improve your grades.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2012年北師大版高中英語(yǔ)選修一Unit14練習(xí)卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is also the most neglect (忽視). Common reasons for not eating breakfast include having no time, not feeling hungry, traditional dislike and dieting.

Breakfast simply means “break the fast’’. Your body spends at least 6 to 12 hours each night in a fasting state. In the morning your body needs energy for the day’s work ahead.

A good breakfast should provide 1/3 of your total calorie(卡路里)needs for the day. On average, we eat 400 less calories for breakfast than for dinner. If breakfast doesn’t appeal (吸引) to you in the morning, try eating a lighter dinner earlier in the evening or save half of your dinner for breakfast in the morning.

If you still aren’t hungry in the morning, start with something small like juice or toast or have a nutritious (有營(yíng)養(yǎng)的) mid-morning snack (小吃) later when you are hungry.

So, you say you are on a diet. Some people fear that eating breakfast will make them hungrier during the day and they will eat more. It is true that eating breakfast is likely to make you feel hungry throughout the day. That is because your body is working correctly. Although you may feel as if you are eating more all day long, in reality you are probably not.

Not eating breakfast can also cause you overeat, since a fall in blood sugar often makes you feel very hungry later. To make matters worse, since your body is in a slow state, it will not be able to burn those extra calories very efficiently (有效). If you feed your body healthy snacks and meals throughout the day, you are less likely to become hungry and stuff (填飽) yourself as soon as you begin to eat.

Since breakfast is the first and most important meal of the day, choosing the right food is important. The best breakfast foods are fruits, juice, lean meat and grain products such as bread, rice, noodles and cereals.

1. What is the meaning of the word “fast” in the phrase “break the fast”?

A.movement

B.going without food

C.quickness

2.If you don’t want to have breakfast in the morning, according to the writer’s suggestion, you should________.

B.have a little supper

C.go to a restaurant to enjoy a good meal

D.have a good supper

3.Eating breakfast, in fact, makes your body_________.

A.work out of order

B.produce too much energy

C.work well

D.feel hungry quicker

4.Not eating breakfast will_________.

A.save a lot of money

B.do harm to your health

C.do good to your health

D.help you keep in shape

5.In the last paragraph the writer mainly_________.

A. persuades us to have a good breakfast

B. tell us what food isn’t suitable for breakfast

C describes when and how we should have our breakfast

D .tell us what food we should have for breakfast

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2012年全國(guó)普通高等學(xué)校招生統(tǒng)一考試英語(yǔ)(廣東卷解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

“Have a nice day!” may be a pleasant gesture or a meaningless. When my friend Maxie says “Have a nice day” with a smile, I know she sincerely cares about what happens to me. I feel loved and secure since another person cares about me and wishes me well.

“Have a nice day. Next!”This version of the expression is spoken by a salesgirl at the supermarket who is rushing me and my groceries out the door. The words come out in the same tone(腔調(diào))with a fixed procedure. They are spoken at me, not to me. Obviously, the concern for my day and everyone else’s is the management’s attempt to increase business.

The expression is one of those behaviors that help people get along with each other. Sometimes it indicates the end of a meeting. As soon as you hear it, you know the meeting is at an end. Sometimes the expression saves us when we don’t know what to say “oh, you may have a tooth out? I’m terribly sorry, but have a nice day.”

The expression can be pleasant. If a stranger says “Have a nice day” to you, you may find it heart-warming because someone you don’t know has tried to be nice to you.

Although the use of the expression is an insincere, meaningless social custom at times, there is nothing wrong with the sentence except that it is a little uninteresting. The salesgirl, the waitress, the teacher, and all the countless others who speak it without thinking may not really care about my day. But in a strange and comfortable way, it’s nice to know they care enough to pretend they care when they really don’t care all that much. While the expression may not often be sincere, it is always spoken. The point is that people say it all the time when they like.

1.How does the author understand Maxie’s words?

A.Maxie shows her anxiety to the author.

B.Maxie really wishes the author a good day.

C.Maxie encourages the author to stay happy.

D.Maxie really worries about the author’s security.

2.What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?

A.The salesgirl is rude.

B.The salesgirl is bored.

C.The salesgirl cares about me

D.The salesgirl says the words as a routine.

3. By saying “Have a nice day,” a stranger may _____.

A.try to be polite to you

B.express respect to you

C.give his blessing to you

D.share his pleasure with you

4.According to the last paragraph, people say “Have a nice day”_______.

A.sincerely

B.a(chǎn)s thanks

C.a(chǎn)s a habit

D.encouragingly

5.What is the best title of the passage?

A.Have a Nice Day—a Social Custom.

B.Have a Nice Day—a Pleasant Gesture.

C.Have a Nice Day—a Heart-warming Greeting.

D.Have a Nice Day—a Polite Ending of a Conversation.
