Use phones respectfully

You probably spend more time with your smart phone than any other possession. You take it everywhere — to school, to meals, and even to the bathroom, 1. But we have to learn to use our phones respectfully or at least without offending others around us. Here are some tips for smart phone usage. Take a look.

Use “do not disturb” instead of “vibrate(振動(dòng))”

Loud vibrations in your pants are disturbing. People can hear your phone vibrate, depending on how severely it vibrates. 2.

Tell others what you’re doing

Sometimes, you will be in a situation in which you need to use your smart phone. 3. If you don’t, people will think that you’re either interacting with someone else or just getting bored.

4.

Respect others’ privacy as text and e-mail senders by not letting what they type appear on the home screen of your phone when you receive a new message. While you’re at it, use a password to make sure the information you share with others stays between you.

Ask permission to swipe(滑動(dòng))

When someone hands you their phone to look at a photo, this doesn’t mean you can swipe through all of their photo albums. 5.

A. Don’t use the text preview feature on your home screen.

B. It is difficult to ignore and distracts people from whatever they are doing.

C. You should use your smart phone secretly.

D. They probably want you to see the one photo they hand to you, not every photo they have taken.

E. Of course, a smart phone is a great way to keep in touch and share life events.

F. So it’s thrilling to look through all their photos.

G. Just tell people what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.

科目:高中英語 來源:2016屆陜西漢中高三上學(xué)期教學(xué)質(zhì)量檢測(cè)英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Fear and its companion pain are two of the most useful things that man and animals possess if they are used. If fire didn’t hurt when it burned, children would play with it until their hands were burned away. Similarly, if pain existed but fear didn’t, a child could burn itself again and again because fear would not warn it to keep away from the fire that had burnt it before. A really fearless soldier—and some do exist—is not a good soldier because he is soon killed; and a dead soldier is of no use to his army. Fear and pain are therefore two guards without which man and animals might soon die out.

In our first sentence we suggested that fear ought to be properly used. If, for example, you never go out of your house because of the danger of being knocked down and killed in the street by a car, you are letting fear rule you too much. The important thing is not to let fear rule you, but instead, to use fear as your servant and guide. Fear will warn you of dangers; then you have to decide what action to take.

In many cases, you can take quick and successful action to avoid the danger. For example, you see a car coming straight towards you; fear warns you, you jump out of the way, and all is well.

In some cases, however, you decide that there is nothing that you can do to avoid the danger. For example, you cannot prevent an airplane crashing into your house, and you may not want to go and live in a desert where there are no airplanes. In this case, fear has given you its warning, you have examined it and decided on your course of action, so fear of the particular danger is no longer of any use to you, and you have to try to overcome it.

1.Children would play with fire until their hands are burnt away if _________.

2.People sometimes succeed in timely avoiding danger because _________.

A. they have gained experience

B. they jump out of the way in time

C. they are warned of the danger and take quick action

D. they are calm in face of danger

3.What is implied but not stated in the passage?

A. Fear is always something helpful

B. Too much fear is harmful

C. Fear is something that can be avoided

D. Fear ought to be used as our guide in our life

4.The best title for this passage should be __________.

A. The Value of Fear

B. Pain and Actions

C. No Pains, No Gains

D. The Reason Why People Fear

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。

Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most would admit that their spoken English is poor. Whenever I speak to a Chinese student, they always say, “My spoken English is poor.” 1. I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.

First, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves due to a limited vocabulary. 2. However, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if you choose a positive attitude. Others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know.

3. Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be FLUENCY NOT ACCURACY. Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using them to get your message across. But to talk to someone in English, as quickly and well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or tense, but it doesn’t matter. 4.

The third reason is that not enough attention is paid to listening. You have one mouth but two ears! All the hearing is necessary for you to start speaking.

Fourth, most Chinese students are reactive rather than proactive(主動(dòng)的) language learners. Instead of actively seeking out opportunities to improve their spoken English they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor. 5.

A. Second, they are afraid of making mistakes.

B. They may try to avoid making similar mistakes next time.

C. Obviously the better answer is to expand their vocabulary.

D. However, their spoken English does not have to remain “poor”!

E. The second reason lies in the reluctance (不愿) of using what has just been learned.

F. The person you are speaking to will understand you and make allowances for any mistakes he hears.

G. If you have this proactive outlook, then you will see English opportunities wherever you go.
