If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.
―Nelson Mandela
But learning a language can seem daunting (令人卻步的) ,so Ymgoing to provide an overview of the general strategy, before we get into the specifics.
Here is the breakdown. We'll go more in depth into each of these later on.
1. Get the right resources for learning:a grammar book, memorization software, and films or books.
2. Get a private tutor. You want one for at least a month. I recommend four hours per day.
3. Attempt to speak and think only in the new language. Every time you can't remember a word, put that word into your memorization software. Prac?tise your vocabulary daily.
4. Find friends, language partners, and other speakers of the language. Once you can have basic conversations with your private tutor, you need to find other partners. If you haven't already, think about moving to the country where the language is spoken. Consider a group class. Practise continuously. Stop speaking English.
That's the basic strategy. Again, this strategy is intensive, because learning a language in three months is a difficult task. If you'd prefer to learn the language more slowly or you don't have the ability to move to a new coun?try and practise 4〜8 hours a day, then you can modify the plan. It is extreme?ly important that you practise every day,however―20minutes a day is much better than once or twice a week.
Some of these concepts are hard to understand through the written words,so I created a video series? just for Zen Habits readers, that teaches the steps to learn a language.

Have you ever felt like a fool for having said too much? Anita Chow had one of those moments.
A few weeks ago,she applied for a job with a company. Chow said she is usually quiet, but during the interview, she tried hard to act against her nature. She smiled a lot and talked in a lively manner. When asked why she wanted to work in the company, she said the job would enable her to meet a lot of interesting people. Then she added jokingly, "Who knows? I might even meet my future husband.” Chow wanted to beat herself up the moment she stepped out of the inter?view room. " It came out so wrong," she says. " Now the interviewers will think of me as one of those women who don't have any career ambition and just want to get married and settle down.” Saying too much or oversharing happens to every one of us. In the time of social media, sharing every detail of your life is almost expected and encour?aged. But it isn't all social media's fault. "Experts say oversharing often happens when we are trying subconsciously to control our anxiety," according to a Wall Street Journal column. Chow's is a typical case of " self-adjust?ment" aimed at fighting her own anxiety. It happens like this:when having a conversation,we want to sound amusing and interesting. So we use a lot of mental energy trying to manage the other person's impression of us. The effort required to do this leaves less brainpower to think over what we say and to whom, says the Wall Street Journal.
This explains why we sometimes suddenly say embarrassing things to people we want to impress most, whether it's a first date, the boss or our future in?laws. It leads to embarrassing situations and is the perfect material for comedy movies.
So how do you stop yourself from saying too much? Simple:stop and think before you open your mouth.
