【答案】

Dear Jim,

How are you these days? Recently, I make a plan to take part in a Dragon Boat Training Camp so that I can cultivate my interests, broaden my horizons and enrich my school life.

I want to tell you some details about the camp first. The camp will be held in my school next Saturday. And many other middle school students will take part in the camp as well. Therefore, we can communicate with each other very well.

Well, I have two main reasons why I want to join it. The first one is that the dragon boat race is one of the most important traditions in China. And people treasure it very much. You can know its a very funny and wonderful activity. Whats more, I can improve myself in the camp and learn many things that can’t be found in the books.

Would you like to join me? I look forward to your joining very much. Please give me a reply soon and let me know your decision, OK?

Wish you good luck.

Yours,

Li Hua

Now a group of psychologists from Yale University say they have found the reason why, and that crying tears of joy may well be the body’s way of keeping emotional balance. “They seem to take place when people are overtaken by strong positive emotions, and people who do this seem to recover better from those strong emotions,” Oriana Aragon, the lead researcher said.

【題目】My transportation was unexpectedly smooth and I arrived at the meeting half an hour earlier. I kept my eyes on the restaurant door. Several customers entered, but not my friend. At 6:00 pm, she sent me a text message: “Urgent work to finish. Will be 20 minutes late.”

I had left my book in the office, so I spent the time thinking of my experiences of being late in China. On my first visit in 1985, punctuality was deeply rooted in the Chinese hearts. There were no traffic jams then.

As a teacher in Canada, I always insisted on punctuality. I would open the classroom door to a late student for the first time and the second, but not the third. During the six years I worked for CCTV, I had a Chinese friend whom I often saw at lunch time, or after work. We used to meet at the subway station nearby. He was always late by 10-20 minutes. To my question, “You were busy?” he would surprisingly answer, No.” Once I asked him to check the clock in his office, he smiled.

In March 2015, I got permanent residence (居住權) in China. The ceremony was scheduled for 9:00 am at the Public Security Bureau on the Second Ring Road. I told my driver I had to get there by 8:40 am. “No problem,” he replied. But he thought he had time to drop someone off at the airport before picking me up. I desperately waited for him. Then, to rub salt into my wound, he had to stop at the exit of a gas station. Finally, I entered the room at 9:07 am ── the last guest to arrive!

【1】What can we learn from the passage?

A. The author is always late for work or any activities.

B. The author dislikes making friends with unpunctual persons.

C. The author hates being late from the bottom of heart.

D. The author can do something to deal with unpunctuality.

【2】If the author’s student comes late for the third time, _______.

A. he will let him/her remain outside

B. he will open the door for him/her again

C. he will shout at him/her loudly

D. he will tell him/her to take care next time

【3】How did the Chinese friend feel when the author asked him to check the clock?

A. Excited. B. Embarrassed.

C. Satisfied. D. Shocked.

【4】Why didn’t the author arrive at the ceremony on time?

A. Because the gas was running out.

B. Because his driver met a guest at the airport.

C. Because there was a big traffic jam on the road.

D. Because the driver estimated the time wrongly.

【題目】Every day our life is full of images, videos, music and news. In this age of visual and aural hyperstimulation(視聽的高度刺激),the medium of radio is making a marked comeback.

“We're at the dawn of a golden age of audio," said US-based podcaster Alex Blumberg in an article in The Sydney Morning Herald. In the last month alone, 15 percent of US adults listened to a radio podcast. These data, released by Edison Research, reveal the successful evolution of traditional radio broadcasts to the present day's digital podcast format(播客形式). The term "podcast," was coined in 2004, but the trend only started gaining mainstream popularity in recent years. Since the leap in consumer demand for smart phones and tablets, podcast subscription rates have only accelerated.

You can tune in during those extra minutes of the day when you're walking to the shops, waiting in a queue or riding the subway. Similar to television shows, podcasts are generally free to download on computer or iPod and most offer new content every week.

Donna Jackson, 22, Sydney University media graduate, listens to podcasts two or three times a week, via-iTunes.¨ I listen while I'm hanging out in the house doing something else.

It makes completing a boring task a lot more enjoyable... And it's an easy way of keeping in touch with what's going on in the rest of the world," she said. “I mainly listen to BBC podcasts, but recently I've also been tuning into This American Life and Serial.”

Unlike television and music, the audio format has the ability to create a deep impression on readers. Blumberg says this comes down to the podcast's ability "to create emotional connection." Sydney University undergraduate Hazel Proust, major in social work and arts, agrees. "When you're tuned in, it feels as if the podcaster is talking directly to you. It's comforting," said Proust.

It seems the age-old tradition of verbal(口頭的)storytelling is very much alive and well.

D. only television shows can be free

【3】 What does the underlined word "coined" in paragraph 2 mean?

A. written. B. thought. C. invented. D. found.
