【答案】
Possible version 1:
I believe it a wise decision for the school to arrange for us to have some extra classes now. As over the years, we have been so used to following the teachers closely. Our teachers also have had much experience in preparing us for the examinations. They know what is important for us and what may not be so relevant. As long as we listen attentively in class, finish our homework in time, we can surely do well in the various examinations. If we have more extra time, some of us may be at a loss, not knowing what to accomplish every day. As a result, their academic result will surely suffer. So I think it right and necessary for the school to add more classes concerning the exam-related subjects.
Possible version 2:
In my view, we should be allowed more time of our own. It might be true that adding some extra classes will be of some help to a few passive students. However, we cannot expect to always rely on someone else to decide for us what is necessary for our success. Besides, where we are weak can also vary from person to person. What our teachers do in class can rarely meet the needs of individual students. Thus, if we can have more free time, we can focus on where we are weak and balance our energy on different subjects. Anyway, if we can talk to our teachers and make an appropriate plan for our study, it will be wise.

【題目】Together the two boys, who go to Escondido High School in California, have had the difficult job of learning in schools where the majority of the students can speak and hear. Orlando lost his hearing at the age of one. German was born deaf, and his parents moved from Mexico to find a school where he could learn sign language. He met Orlando on their first day of kindergarten.
“We were in a special class with about 25 other deaf kids,” German remembers. “Before then, I didn’t know I was deaf and that I was different.”“Being young and deaf in regular classes was very hard,” signs Orlando. “The other kids didn’t understand us and we didn’t understand them. But we’ve all grown up together, and today, I’m popular because I’m deaf. Kids try hard to communicate with me.”
Some things are very difficult for the two boys.“We can’t talk on the phone, so if we need help, we can’t call an emergency service,” German signs. “And we can’t order food in a drive-thru.”
Despite their difficulties, the two boys have found work putting food in bags at a local supermarket. They got their jobs through a “work ability” program, designed for teenagers from local schools with different types of learning disabilities. German has worked in the supermarket since August, and Orlando started in November.“The other people who work here have been very nice to us,” Orlando signs.“They even sign sometimes. At first, we were nervous, but we’ve learned a lot and we’re getting better.”The opportunity to earn money has been exciting, both boys said. After high school, they hope to attend the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in New York.

【題目】I love charity shops and so do lots of other people in Britain because you find quite a few of them on every high street. The charity shop is a British institution, selling everything from clothes to electric goods, all at very good prices. You can get things you won't find in the shops anymore. The thing I like best about them is that your money is going to a good cause and not into the pockets of profit-driven companies, and you are not damaging the planet, but finding a new home for unwanted goods.
The first charity shop was opened in 1947 by Oxfam. The famous charity's appeal to aid postwar Greece had been so successful that it had been flooded with donations. They decided to set up a shop to sell some of these donations to raise money for that appeal. Now there are over 7,000 charity shops in the UK. My favorite charity shop in my hometown is the Red Cross shop, where I always find children's books, all 10 or 20 pence each.
Most of the people working in the charity shops are volunteers, although there is often a manager who gets paid. Over 90% of the goods in the charity shops are donated by the public. Every morning you see bags of unwanted items outside the front of shops, although they don't encourage this, rather ask people to bring things in when the shop is open.
The shops have very low running costs, and all profits go to charity work. Charity shops raise more than £110 million a year, funding medical research, overseas aid, supporting sick and poor children, homeless and disabled people, and much more. What better places to spend your money? You get something special for a very good price and a good moral sense. You provide funds to a good cause and step lightly on the environment.
【1】The author loves the charity shop mainly because of ______.
A. its convenient location
B. its great variety of goods
C. its spirit of goodwill
D. its nice shopping environment
【2】 The first charity shop in the UK was set up to ______ .
A. sell cheap products
B. deal with unwanted things
C. raise money for patients
D. help a foreign country
【3】 Which of the following is TRUE about charity shops?
A. The operating costs are very low.
B. The staff are usually well paid.
C. 90% of the donations are second-hand.
D. They are open twenty-four hours a day.
