Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective ways (improve) our English writing ability.
Compared with other forms of writing, it is shorter and takes (little) time. It can help us to develop the habit of thinking in English. If we persist (堅持) in thispractice, gradually we’ll learn how to express ourselves in English. In keepinga diary in English, we certainly run up against many (difficult). Firstly, it often happensthat we have trouble (find)appropriate words and phrases to give expression to our mind. Secondly, there (be) many idiomatic ways of saying things inChinese. And it is extremely hard for us to put them into English (proper).
As far as I am concerned, my suggestion is we should always have a notebook and aChinese-English dictionary within easy reach. Whenever something beats us, wecan first put it down in our notebook and then consult our dictionary. We canalso ask our English teacher help, if necessary. In short, I believe thatit is great use to keep a diary in English for the (develop) of our writing skills.
【答案】Toimprove;less;difficulties;(in)finding;are;properly;that;for;of;development
【解析】本文屬于教育類短文,主要講述了寫日記對于發(fā)展寫作技能的作用,同時還提供了寫日記的幾點建議。
①to improve 考查固定搭配。搭配the way to dosth做某事的方式;該結(jié)構中使用不定式做定語修飾名詞the ways。
句式have trouble(in) doing sth做某事有困難;其中的in可以省略。

If you are given only 1 yuan, could you live in a city for one day? It seems this may be a little difficult. But students from Xi'an did it.
On April 10, more than 60 students from the Middle School Attached to Northwestern Polytechnic University took part in the One Yuan Metropolis Survival. The charitable organization for teenagers called Imperceptible Education held this activity. Students not only have to live, but they also have to deal with a lot of hard tasks. It has happened in eight cities and is going to four others, including Beijing, in June.
To make money, many students looked for part-time jobs and saw how hard life was. Zhang Queue, 14, asked more than 10 restaurants for a job and finally got one chance. “We were sad when they said no. But gradually (逐漸地), we got used to it,” he said. After being a waiter for an hour, he got 25 yuan.

【題目】Everybody sleeps, but what people stay up late to catch or wake up early in order not to miss varies by culture?
From data collected, it seems the things that cause us to lose the most sleep, on average, are sporting events, time changes, and holidays.
Around the world, people changed sleep patterns thanks to the start or end of daylight savings time. Russians, for example, began to wake up about a half-hour later each day after President Vladimir Putin shifted the country permanently to "winter time" starting on October 26.
Russia's other late nights and early mornings generally correspond to public holidays. On New Year's Eve, Russians have the world's latest bedtime, hitting the hay at around 3:30 a. m.
Russians also get up an hour later on International Women's Day, the day for treating and celebrating female relatives.
Similarly, Americans' late nights, late mornings, and longest sleeps fall on three-day weekends.
Canada got the least sleep of the year the night it beat Sweden in the Olympic hockey (冰球) final.
The World Cup is also chiefly responsible for sleep deprivation. The worst night for sleep in the U. K. was the night of the England-Italy match on June 14. Brits stayed up a half-hour later to watch it, and then they woke up earlier than usual the next morning thanks to summer nights, the phenomenon in which the sun barely sets in northern countries in the summertime. That was nothing, though, compared to Germans, Italians, and the French, who stayed up around an hour and a half later on various days throughout the summer to watch the Cup.
It should be made clear that not everyone has a device to record their sleep patterns; in some of these nations, it’s likely that only the richest people do. And people who elect to track their sleep may try to get more sleep than the average person. Even if that’s the case, though, the above findings are still striking. If the most health-conscious among us have such deep swings in our shut-eye levels throughout the year, how much sleep are the rest of us losing?
【1】What do we learn about the Russians regarding sleep?
A. They don’t fall asleep until very late. B. They don’t sleep much on weekends.
C. They sleep longer than people elsewhere. D. They get less sleep on public holidays.
【2】The underlined word “deprivation” in the last paragraph but one means ________.
A. depression B. loss C. observation D. trouble
【3】What is the most probable reason for some rich people to use a device to record their sleep patterns?
A. They have trouble falling asleep. B. They are involved in a sleep research.
C. They want to get sufficient sleep. D. They want to go to bed on regular hours.
【4】What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
A. Sleeplessness does harm to people’s health.
B. It is important to study our sleep patterns.
C. Few people really know the importance of sleep.
D. Average people probably sleep.

Some years ago, writing in my diary used to be a usual activity.I would return from school and spend the expected half hour recording the day'sevents, feelings, and impressions in my little blue diary. I did not reallyneed to express my emotions by way of words, but I gained a certainsatisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper. After all, isn't accumulating memories a way of preserving the past?
When I was thirteen years old, I went on a long journey on footin a great valley, well equipped with pens, a diary, and a camera. During thetrip, I was busy recording every incident, name and place I came across. I feltproud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for futuregenerations a detailed description of my travels. On my last night there, Iwandered out of my tent, diary in hand. The sky was clear and lit by the glareof the moon, and the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their screenof shadows. I automatically took out my pen...
At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could evermatch or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramaticbeauty of the valley. All I remembered of the previous few days were the dullcharacterizations I had set down in my diary.
Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down aspecial thought or feeling. I still love to record ideas and quotations thatstrike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful. I takepictures, but not very often only of objects I find really beautiful. I'm nolonger blindly satisfied with having something to remember when I grow old. Irealize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busypreserving the present so as to live it in the future.
I don't want to wake up one day and have nothing but a pile ofpictures and notes. Maybe I won't have as many exact representations of peopleand places; maybe I'll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences willalways remain inside me. I don't live to make memories--I just live, and thememories form themselves.
