Dear Andy,
I'm glad to hear from you. You ask about my health in your last email. So I'm going to tell you about mine di?et. I'm a very health person. That's why we live near the sea and we often have fish. I don't know exactly what my mother will cook for us tonight, and there will probable be fish and vegetables. And of course there will also be some rices. If you come to visit me in China on one day,you won't eat many sweets. I hope you don't have sweet tooth. I'm going to ask my father to take some photos for the football match and I'll email them to you. I think you'll like our team's clothes.

Pride and prejudice for the modern woman Let us imagine how Pride and Prejudice,Jane Austen's most famous work, might be updated9200 years on.
Austen's popularity is rooted in her in?telligence. But today she would certainly have 'had a very different life,as would her characters. Here's my own suggestion--.
It is a truth finally and universally acknowledged that a single woman with brains deserves to have equal opportunities to men, however disadvantaged she may feel by sexism.
"My dear husband," said his hopeful wife one day, "have you heard that the local store, standing empty for so long,is taken over by a bright young businesswoman?"
Her dull and indifferent (漠不關(guān)心的) husband re?plied that he had not.
"But it is,it is," she replied excitedly.
Mr Dull-Husband made no reply.
"Don't you want to know her plans?" she cried with some impatience.
"Well, clearly you think it matters to your silly little head--- so I'd better listen."
"Well,my dear, the rumour (傳言) is that she has already set up a string of successful businesses in northern England? though how a woman can know anything about that is beyond me. She will move in herself next month."
"What is her name?"
"Bingley."
"Is she married or single?"
"What a question! And none of your business. But her coming will be a fine thing for our five boys."
"How so? How can it possibly affect them?"
"My dear love, those lazy boys need something to wake them up. There are bound to be jobs going."
"Is that her point in settling here? Surely as a woman she has simply taken a fancy to the place."
"Nonsense, my love, how little you've noticed the world has changed. She's got a firstrate degree and some sort of business qualification,I'm told. She surely needs one of our boys!Perhaps you might give her a call."
"Me? No. Perhaps you can take an interest. You still have your looks, after all. She may even offer you a job."
"Oh,that's not likely. These new chances belong to the younger generation. But now you mention it,I think I'll go along all the same."
And Mrs Bennet went along. That was 10 years ago. She is now managing director of a FTSE-listed company.
...It would remain the case,of course, that Mrs Bennet would be one of the very few women on the company board, that her salary would be lower than her male colleagues” her bonus of a more " female" dimension and her lifespan (年限) among the city's business leaders shor?ter than theirs. Still? she'd no doubt have enjoyed Da?vos―and might even have hobnobbed (攀談) with influ?ential figures.

As we get older,we become more grateful, and grow closer to God and our faith. I recently finished writing a book on personal change, both mine and others”which will be published this spring.
Like most authors,I wrote an acknowledgment page after finishing the writ?ing. I thanked the people who helped make the book possible. Once I started,it was hard to stop. When I thought about it,there were just so many people in my life to whom I owe a countless debt of gratitude (感激) and love, and without whom I might not have been around to write the book.
One of the pleasures of growing older is the viewpoint it brings to the store of blessings that multiply in your life; growing older means growing more grateful.
Of course there is loss, heartache and disappointment too. But it is against these difficulties that our blessings stand out in sharp relief―the joy of family and friends and faith and work, and gratitude for the gifts that each new day holds. These are the things that make us whole, and that,as I daily remind myself,I am so richly blessed with. Even in those dark and troubled times I find more to be thankful for than not, much more. I bet you do too.
Gratitude is a practice of the soul that helps us live happier lives and grow clos?er to God,and our blessings are the living evidence of his grace. Look around you. I imagine you all could fill a page or two yourself with names of people and things to remember this Thanksgiving.
One of the things everyone here is thankful for is you. Without you, there is no my book. So in case I haven't said it recently, thank you for your loyalty (忠實) and support.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

A. Thanks and gratitude to those giving support.
B. The explanation or introduction of a book.

6. What makes a person own true happiness according to the author?
A. The course of making more friends while working.
B. The course of defeating the hardships and pains.
C. The gettogether of friends to celebrate Thanksgiving.
D. The publication of his new book.
7. The author's purpose of writing the passage is to .
A. inform people of his completion of his new book
B. call on more people to celebrate Thanksgiving
C. give thanks and blessings to people supporting him
D. call on more people to buy his new book about gratitude
8. What can we learn about the author?
A. He owes money to many people.
B. His book is highly praised by readers.
C. He is afraid of growing old.
D. He encourages people to be grateful.
