【題目】It has long been hailed(宣稱) as the most crucial meal of the day, vital for getting the body going and preventing overeating later on. But breakfast may not be so vital after all, if new research is to be believed. Contrary to popular belief, the study found the first meal of the day had little impact on snacking or portion sizes later in the day. It also had no effect on metabolism(新陳代謝).

The researchers, from the University of Bath, now suggest the better health of people who eat a good breakfast may be due to their general, wider, diet regime(養(yǎng)生法). They found there was no change in metabolism after six weeks between those who ate nothing for breakfast and those who consumed 700 calories before 11am.The major difference was that those who abstained from breakfast ate fewer calories over the whole day.

This goes against the long-held theory that people who skip breakfast simply make up for it by gorging on food later on. However, breakfast eaters were likely to expend more energy - around 442calories - by being active, mainly in the morning after eating. They also had more stable blood sugar readings, especially by the end of the trial.

The research added: “The belief that breakfast is ‘the most important meal of the day is so widespread that many people are surprised to learn that there is a lack of scientific evidence showing whether or how breakfast may directly cause changes in our health. It is certainly true that people who regularly eat breakfast tend to be slimmer and healthier but these individuals also typically follow most other recommendation for a healthy lifestyle, so have more balanced diets and take more physical exercise. ”

In another study published this month, researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham divided volunteers into three groups. One skipped breakfast, others always ate it and a third continued with their current regime. Four months later, no one in any group had lost much weight.

1According to he new research, the people who eat breakfast tend to __________.

A. prevent overacting later on B. expend more energy

C. have more balanced diets D. lose more weight

2If you want to be healthier and simmer, you should _______.

A. not eat breakfast B. snack as frequently as possible

C. eat general, wide breakfast D. have a healthy lifestyle

3The underlined phrase “abstained from” in Paragraph 2 means ___________.

A. didn’t have B. had C. had more D. had less

4The best title of the passage is __________.

A. whether to have breakfast or not

B. no expected good to have breakfast

C. difference between having and not having breakfast

D. healthy diet

Usually summer break provides teens with an opportunity to get away from the boring life of going to school, to visit friends and have fun with them, and to make a little extra money. The summer job market for teens can be highly competitive. Half-heartedly (不認(rèn)真地)looking for a job is the quickest way to get turned down over and over. 【1】

2 Look at the skills required for each. Then compare these skills with those you already have. The closer the match, the more likely you will enjoy your summer job while building a good reference for future jobs.

Understanding why you want to work will also help you determine where to apply. Do you want to earn extra money for something special, or do you need the job to make ends meet? 3 These are just a few of the questions you need to answer before starting your job search.

When you’re searching for a summer job, look for help beyond the wanted signs. 4 And even if a business doesn’t have a sign or advertisement indicating that they are looking for help, stop by and ask a manager. You might fill in an application anyway, which could lead to a position in the future.

5 Ice cream shops, restaurants, grocery stores and movie theaters commonly hire students. You might take a job that has less desirable hours or that you don’t necessarily enjoy. However, summer jobs don’t last forever. You can still build your skills and experience while making money.

A. Here are some tips on finding summer jobs.

B. Take time to think about the types of jobs that are suitable for you.

C. Be flexible and creative when you’re looking for a summer job.

D. If you are poor in math, you probably would lose your job.

E. Let your family, neighbors and teachers know that you’re looking for a job.

F. A good attitude towards work sometimes can make up for lack of skills.

G. Are you looking for a job where your friends work, so you can be with them?

I used to go to countryside to draw animals and plants. One day I was walking across a field looking for rabbits to draw them. Lost in thought, I hadn’t notice a bull running towards me. About 100 metre ahead was a tree under that I would sit and draw. Sudden, I heard a noise behind me. I turned and saw the bull. Knowing a bull can run fast than a man, I quickly reached the tree but climbed up. From there I saw the bull kicking my food bag by its feet. It kept done this for 15 minutes and finally moved away.

【題目】閱讀短文,按照題目要求用英語回答問題。

A young lady was standing on the corner with a map in her hand. She looked puzzled. Several people passed by, looked at her but did not stop. I wondered why. Maybe it was because of the way she was dressed. She wore a dirty dress and looked pale.

As I crossed the street and came closer to her I asked if she wanted help. She thanked me and smiled in relief. As it turned out she was looking for the hospital. I felt wonderful just reaching out, and taking that extra moment to help.

Many times in these situations I end up walking a person to where he or she is going when giving directions would be too complicated. I like helping people this way due to my own experience. Many years ago, we travelled in Japan and needed directions. A kind Japanese who saw our problem came to us and helped us out. This man just took my heavy bags and guided us to where we needed to be. We could not speak any Japanese while the man could not speak any English. Although we could not communicate through words, we communicated through the heart.

Sometimes when I do a special favor for a stranger, the person will say, “I hope I can do something for you one day to return the favor.” They already have done something for me by giving me the opportunity to help them. But I hope that when they come across a situation where someone needs their help, they will be willing to reach out as well.
