(1)The British summer is extremely beautiful.Trees, flowers, birds and butterflies make the whole country like a big garden. However, many British people have noticed that butterflies have been gradually disappearing from this picturesque scenery during the past several years. What has happened to them?
(2)Butterfly Conservation,a charity in the UK,is running a survey to help answer this question. The result is more serious than people expected.According to the survey, among 59 butterfly species found in Britain, more than three quarters of them are suffering a declining population, including the most popular ones. What’s more, half of all butterfly species are in the danger of dying out. Some common species such as the small Tortoiseshell butterfly and the Wall butterfly are dropping dramatically. The latter cannot even be seen in many parts of central and southern England. The Blue butterfly was commonly seen in the south. However,it has started colonizing (遷徙至)Edinburgh in the past few years.
(3)The numbers of butterflies have dropped to a record low in the past three years largely because the summer in the UK is getting cooler and their habitat is also worsening.Fortunately Britain is experiencing a long hot summer this year compared to the last few summers.Conservationists believe the warm weather will bring some benefit to the butterflies.
(4)Sir David Attenborough, president of Butterfly Conservation, said:“Large quantities of butterflies tell us that all is well with nature. When they decline it’s a warning that other wildlife will be soon           .”
(5)The survey is still going on.The public are also encouraged to keep track of the UK’s    butterfly population. The organizers hope the survey will help raise public awareness of the value of butterflies in the UK.Butterflies give an indication of the well-being of nature and the environment.

[2]So, when Ashley was sixteen, she launched her own website, called Goosehead. She had no idea how big a success it would be, but three years later, the site was the most successful teen site in the USA! It was getting 100,000 hits every day, and Ashley had about 30 employees.

In a society such as the United States or Canada, which has many national, religious and cultural differences, people highly value individualism—the differences among people. Teachers place a lot of importance on the qualities that make each student special. The educational systems in these countries show these values. Students do not memorize information. Instead, they work on their own and find answers themselves. There is often a discussion in the classroom. At an early age, students learn to form their own ideas and opinions.
In most Asian societies, by contrast, people have the same language, history and culture. Perhaps for this reason, the educational system in these Asian countries reflects society’s belief in group goals and purposes rather than individualism. Children in China, Japan and Korea often work together and help one another on assignments.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both of these systems of education. For example, one advantage of the system in Japan is that students there learn much more maths and science than American students learn by the end of high school. They also study more hours each day and more days each year than North Americans do. The system is difficult, but it prepares students for a society that values discipline and self-control. There is, however, a disadvantage. Memorization is an important learning method in Japanese schools, but many students say that after an exam, they forget much of the information they have memorized.
The advantage of educational system in North America, on the other hand, is that students learn to think for themselves. The system prepares them for a society that values creative ideas. There is, however, a disadvantage. When students graduate from high school, they haven’t memorized as much basic rules as students in other countries have.

“Happiness Advantage” Effect
In July 2010 Burt’s Bees, a personal-care products company, was going through enormous change as it began a global expansion into 19 new countries. In this kind of high-pressure situation, many leaders bother their assistants with frequent meetings or flood their in-boxes with urgent demands. In doing so, managers lift everyone’s anxiety level, which activates the part of the brain that processes threats and steals resources from the prefrontal cortex ( 大腦皮層), which is responsible for effective problem solving.
Burt’s Bees’s then-CEO, John Wolfgang, took a different approach. Each day, he’d send out an e-mail praising a team member for work related to global marketing. He’d interrupt his own presentations to remind his managers to talk with their teams about the company’s values. He asked me to further a three-hour session with employees on happiness in the course of the expansion effort. As one member of the senior team told me a year later, Wolfgang’s emphasis on developing positive leadership kept his managers actively involved and loyal as they successfully transformed the company into a global one.
That outcome shouldn’t surprise us. Research shows that when people work with a positive mind-set (思維模式), performance on nearly every level—productivity, creativity, involvement— improves. Yet happiness is perhaps the most misunderstood driver of performance. For one, most people believe that success comes before happiness. “Once I get a promotion, I’ll be happy,” they think. Or, “Once I hit my sales target, I’ll feel great. ”But because success is a moving target—as soon as you hit your target, you raise it again—the happiness that results from success does not last long.
In fact, it works the other way around: People who have a positive mind-set perform better in the face of challenge. I call this the “ happiness advantage”—every business outcome shows improvement when the brain is positive. I’ve observed this effect in my role as a researcher and lecturer in 48 countries on the connection between employee happiness and success. And I’m not alone: In an analysis of 225 academic studies, researchers found strong evidence of cause-and-effect relationship between life satisfaction and successful business outcomes.
Another common misunderstanding is that our genetics, our environment, or a combination of the two determines how happy we are. To be sure, both factors have an impact. But one’s general sense of well-being is surprisingly unstable. The habits you form, the way you interact with colleagues, how you think about stress—all these can be managed to increase your happiness and your chances of success.

March 22nd every year has been the World Water Day since 1993. Everyone knows that over 70% of our planet is covered with water, but do you know that only 3% of the water is fresh and less than 1% of this fresh water is available for human use?
Water shortage
The World Bank reports that 80 countries now have water shortages, while 40% of the more than 2 billion people, have no access to clean water. Fresh water is such a life-or-death issue(問題) in many parts of the world that every eight seconds a child dies from drinking dirty water.
How to save water
Turn off the tap while you brush you teeth in the morning and before bedtime, and you can save up to 8 gallons of water! That adds up to more than 200 gallons a month, enough to fill a huge fish tank that holds 6 small sharks!
Keep your shower under 5 minutes long. In fact, a 5-minute shower uses more water than a person living in poverty in a developing country uses in an entire day.
Fix the leak. If your toilet has a leak, you could be wasting about 200 gallons of water every day. That would be like flushing your toilet more than 50 times for no reason!
We each share responsibility for the sustainable management of our water resources, which means using less water at home, in the workplace, at school, on holidays, on the farm,… everyone, everywhere, every time.

With rapid increase of economic rate in western countries, more and more married young couples tend to have no child or only one. At the meantime, many developing nations adopt family planning policy to get rid of poverty. All these facts result in a world with population growth rate declining. But I myself would like to grow up in a big family.
Of course, a small family has its advantages. Firstly, small family makes it easier for parents to bring up and educate their children. Parents could spend more time and money educating one child than several. The child could grow up in an influential environment. Secondly, the child could learn more survival skills for future success.
However,                      . The only child becomes the little emperor. It would make the one child ask more for him and think less of others. Besides, after the child grows up and gets married, the new couple has to take care of four old parents. That means the two children must work hard to support the old parents. At present, many nations are facing the problem of becoming aged society. China will face this situation in a short time to come.
On the contrary, a big family weighs over a small family in many aspects. Firstly, parents could educate several children with almost the same time as they spend with one. Moreover, the old brothers or sisters also could help their parents bring up little children. Secondly, if one of the children turns out to be successful, it may mean he or she is becoming a model for other children to learn from.
Despite the fact that parents have to spend more time and money bringing up several children, it is not as difficult as people think it to be. With the help of good educational system and modern technology, it is becoming easier to afford several children.

Scientists have determined it's not advisable to hurry marriage. But what's the best age to wed?
When Avril Lavigne announced she was splitting from her husband, comments from her friends suggested that she was only 21 when she tied the knot and later she said that she realized she'd been too young to make such a life-altering decision.Could fellow young celebrity divorcées(離婚者) Reese Witherspoon, Kate Hudson, and Britney Spears have also hit the same age-related issue?
The Magic Number
There are practical reasons for the mid-20s dividing line, and most of them boil down to two biggies: education and money.
It turns out that the more years of higher education a woman has under her belt on her wedding day, the lower the chances that she'll get divorced ...a(chǎn)nd by 25, you're more likely to have earned a degree or two.Educated women tend to be more confident about who they are and less willing to settle for a man who doesn't meet their standards.
Odds(可能性) are that by 25 you're also supporting yourself, so there's less incentive(刺激; 鼓勵(lì))for you to rush into marriage because you're seeking financial security from him.But the marriage-related benefits of working and having money of your own go beyond feeling secure.Learning to budget your cash carefully when you're single will help you avoid financial problems-one of the main causes of couple fights-for the rest of your life.
Knowing the Real You
At 25, you've had time for some crucial life experiences, including a relationship or two that may have improved your Mr.Right radar. You've probably dated enough to have a better idea of what you don't want in a man, which makes it easier to know what you can live with and can't live without.
Perhaps the most important aspect of waiting is that you'll know what your goals and values really are. While you don't want to marry someone just like you, marriage is a lot easier if you two share a similar outlook on life.
Twenty-four and already married to the man of your dreams? Don't worry: Many young marriages survive. But given the choice, you might consider putting off the big day until your mid-20s or later.
