【1】after→before 考查連詞。 It will be/take... before... 故將after改為before。
【2】many→much 考查代詞。 故將many改為much。
【4】will→would 考查時態(tài)。 Without their help or advice, my life would be different為含蓄條件的虛擬語氣,對現(xiàn)在情況進行虛擬,主句時態(tài)采用would/should/could/might+V.形式。故將will改為would。
【5】I→me 考查代詞。 故將I改為me。
固定短語make up one’s mind to do sth. 故在made后面加上up。
原因狀語從句because time and tide waiting for no man中,主語為time and tide,謂語動詞應(yīng)用一般現(xiàn)在時的復(fù)數(shù)形式。

In many countries of the world people do what is called house sitting. It means that if owners of the house are going away, they want someone to come into their home and look after the house and maybe pets while they are away.
In Australia, many people travel. After people retire, they might buy a van and travel all over the country. 【1】 (many people—retired people—thousands of them)
So if someone wants to travel or go away for some reason, they might want someone in their home to care for it and keep the gardens tidy. House sitters might have to care for pets. 【3】 There are websites where you find the advertisements by people who want to travel, and by replying to the advertisement, you can make arrangements to go and look after their home.

Some house sitting jobs are just for a few days or a couple of weeks while the home owner has a short holiday. Sometimes it is for much longer. We have had one house sit for six months, while the home owner travelled to Europe.
【5】 Then you can travel to many different countries and stay there. One of the important things to get are references from the home owners where you have stayed. A reference is a written letter to say that you are trustworthy and have looked after their home well. You can show these letters to prospective house sitting jobs and they know you will do a good job.
A. I have done house sitting many times.
B. Thousands of people do this all the time.
C. It is also possible to do house sitting in other countries.
D. Generally you have many opportunities to get a house sitting job.
E. You must take a little care over what your description says about you.

While I was teaching in China, I became interested in acupuncture(針灸). It was after returning from China and witnessing how successful it had been that I reached the decision to become an acupuncturist myself. I was lucky to discover that the town where I lived had a famous college of traditional acupuncture.
Alternative medicine such as acupuncture is particularly important for me because I firmly believe that it works on the level of body, mind and spirit. This is very different from Western medicine which is supposed to work only on the body. When a person is ill, it is believed that there’s something in their life that is putting their energy levels out of balance. What alternative therapies(療法)try do to is kelp to gradually push that energy back into balance. The result is that any disease present might naturally disappear as it cannot survive when energies are balanced.
I’ve treated a wide range of people for various conditions, for example people suffering from stress and anxiety. To acquire a qualification in acupuncture, I took a course that lasted three years. I had to go to the college about one weekend in three. I also had a large amount of homework and practical work to do, which I did two or three evenings a week. This involved locating pints on different people. As you can imagine, this isn’t straightforward as people are of different sizes and have differently shaped bodies.
In the future I hope to set up an alternative health clinic which will involve myself as an acupuncturist but perhaps other people as well. I’d like to work with people who provide treatments such as rubbing(按摩)and pressing people’s feet in a special way to help them relax and feel well. I’d like to set it up somewhere in the countryside, where people could feel free from the stress of life.
【1】The author decides to learn acupuncture .
A. when he was teaching in China
B. when he was studying in college
C. after he came back to his mother country
D. after he discovered an acupuncture school
【2】What does the author think of acupuncture?
A. It prevents disease.
B. It treats people as a whole.
C. It has an immediate effect.
D. It helps improve people’s lives.
【3】The acupuncture course the author took was .
A. time-consuming and challenging
B. learner-centered and effective
C. difficult but interesting
D. painful but helpful
【4】What do the underlined words “other people” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. Other acupuncturists.
B. Other alternative therapists.
C. Other doctors who use Western medicine.
D. Other people who want to escape fro stress.
