Astronauts on shorter shuttle missions often work very long days. Tasks are scheduled so tightly that break times are often used to finish the day’s work. This type of schedule is far too demanding for long missions on the International Space Station(ISS). ISS crew members usually live in space for at least a quarter of a year. They work five days on and two days off to mimic the normal way they do things on Earth as much as possible. Weekends give the crew valuable time to rest and do a few hours of housework. They can communicate with family and friends by email, Internet phone and through private video conferences.
While astronauts cannot go to a baseball game or a movie in orbit, there are many familiar activities that they can still enjoy. Before a mission, the family and friends of each ISS crew member put together a collection of family photos, massages, videos and reading material for the astronauts to look at when they will be floating 370 kilometers above the Earth. During their mission, the crew also receives care packages with CDs, books, magazines, photos and letters. And as from early 2010, the Internet became available on the ISS, giving astronauts the chance to do some “web surfing” in their personal time. Besides relaxing with these more common entertainments, astronauts can simply enjoy the experience of living in space.
Many astronauts say that one of the most relaxing things to do in space is to look out of the window and stare at the universe and the Earth. Both the shuttle and the ISS circle the planet several times each day, and every moment offers a new view of the Earth’s vast mass and oceans.
1.What does the word “mimic”in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. find B. copy C. change D. lose
2.Which of the following best describes the families of the astronauts on the ISS?
A. They are excited and curious.
B. They are impatient and annoyed
C. They are worried and upset.
D. They are caring and thoughtful
3.In the final paragraph, the author shows that astronauts __________.
A. get more pleasure in space than on the Earth
B. find living in space a bit boring and tiring
C. love to see the Earth from space
D. regard space life as common
4.The passage mainly discusses how astronauts __________.
A. spend their free time in space
B. observe the Earth from space
C. connect with people on the Earth
D. work for longer missions in space

Dar and I loved to dance. It was probably the first thing we did together, long before we would share our lives.
We grew up in a small Oregon mountain community where dances were held almost every Saturday night. Dar was seventeen and l was thirteen when we first danced. He was one of the best dancers on the floor, and so was I. We always jitterbugged. No slow dancing for us; nothing remotely romantic.
Our fathers would stand along the wall and watch. Every once in a while, Dar’s dad would smile a little and say, to no one in particular, but my dad could hear, “Boy, my kid can sure dance.” My dad never blinked an eye; he acted like he’d never heard. But a while later he would say, to no one in particular, “That girl of mine can sure dance.”
Our dancing together stopped for five years while Dar was in the South Pacific in World War II. When we met again, Dar was twenty-two, and l was eighteen. We began to date and dance again. We were as good together as we remembered, and this time we added slow dancing.
For us, life is a dance, a movement of rhythms, directions, stumbles, missteps, at times slow and precise, or fast and wild and joyous. We did all the steps.
Two nights before Dar died, the family were with us. We all ate dinner together, and Dar sat with us. He hadn’t been able to eat for several days. After dinner, I put on a Nat King Cole tape. Dar took me in his arms, weak as he was, and we danced and smiled. No tears for us. We were doing what we had loved to do for more than fifty years. It was our last dance---forever unforgettable. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
1.The author first danced with Dar when____.
A. they were still in their teens
B. they began to date each other
C. they began to share their lives
D. Dar returned from the South Pacific
2.What does the author mean by the underlined sentence in paragraph 3?
A. Her dad didn’t like Dar's father.
B. Her dad was not interested in the dance.
C. Her dad was too focused on his daughter.
D. Her dad thought his daughter danced better.
3.How did the author feel when she danced with Dar for the last time?
A. Regretful. B. Content.
C. Heart-broken. D. Concerned.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. My Unforgettable Dancing Partner
B. Dance Together to the Last
C. My Last Dance with Dar
D. The Best Dancers

The decisions that we make shape us throughout our lives. No matter what decisions we make, good or bad, each one puts us on a new road in the future. Make a bad decision? No problem. Learn from the decision and make another decision to get on a different path. This is advice that I got from Tony Robbins in his book Awaken the Giant Within. This is a book that I recommend(推薦) to anyone wanting to develop a fire to make changes in their life. It helped me to understand how fear of making poor choices was hindering me from becoming the great man who I am today. Now I am not saying I am a well-known person in any particular circle. But I am the king of my castle working hard and trying to make good decisions in regard to the paths that I have chosen. I am a great man in the eyes of my wife and my children. And that is all the recognition that I need in my lifetime. And I know that my past failures have been the building block that I continue to use to build my career and self-image in my community that I live in.
Ben Lerer, cofounder of the CEO of Thrillist Media Group, is a good example of this. In an article on the Fast Company website, Lerer talks about this very subject. He says, “I’ve had to make some really tough decisions but finally, I think the best companies are those that can recognize when something isn’t going right, and fix it, instead of just turning a blind eye because it’s easier.” Great people make decisions. When a decision does not have the desired result, make a different decision. It does not get any simpler than that.
1.From Tony Robbin’s Awaken the Giant Within, the writer knew ________.
A. making a bad decision is very terrible
B. making decisions helps us become a great man
C. being afraid to make a bad decision is very natural
D. learning from the bad decision can help make a new choice
2.The underlined word “hindering” can be replaced by ________.
A. stopping B. stealing
C. preserving D. requiring
3.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. A bad decision has a bad effect on people.
B. The best company can admit and correct a bad decision.
C. People should learn how to make a good decision.
D. Making a decision is much simpler than changing one.
4.What could be the best title of the passage?
A. Overcome Your Fears B. Take Action
C. Make Decisions D. Trust Yourself
