A.Means of e?waste recycling

B.How e?waste comes into being

C.The benefit of e?waste recycling

D.The technologies of e?waste recycling

E.The importance of the electronic waste recycle

F.Modern technology brings convenience and e?waste

1.

Modern technology does bring us many conveniences(便利),from Wi?Fi(無線網絡)enabled cell phones and ever? smaller laptop computers that make entire lives easy to energy? efficient washers that use half the power and time to complete their tasks. However, these new toys and equipment finally become electronic waste ( 電子垃圾)(e? waste)once they are out of use.

2.

E? waste includes everything from empty printer ink containers to broken refrigerators. As people buy new items to replace aging electronics or make upgrades(升級),more electronic waste comes into being. In some cases, such as 2009's switch from analog(模擬)to digital television broadcasting in the United States, changes in technology are so great that old equipment may not even work at all with new systems.

3.

There are many reasons why it is important to recycle electronic waste. Much of the material used to construct electronics, including metal and plastic parts, can be recycled into new items at a discount of the cost and energy use needed to create things from new raw materials(原材料). Additionally, many electronics contain poisonous substances (有毒物質)that are harmful to the environment and could be deadly if they go into an area's groundwater. When properly recycled, they can be reused and will not do harm to the environment. Because of these environmental concerns, many areas require by law that electronic waste be properly recycled.

4.

The availability(可用性)of e?waste recycling programs varies from place to place. In some areas, annual collections are held once or twice a year as a means of dealing with e?waste as well as used engine oil or other waste that is harmful to the environment. There are also some good alternatives (替代品) to recycling your e?waste. Any items that are in working condition can be given to friends or donated to charities(慈善機構)like Goodwill or the Salvation Army, who rely heavily on donations ( 捐贈) . Freecycling ,or passing on your unwanted items to those in need of them,is also a means of finding new homes for used items.

5.

E?waste recycling helps protect the environment by reducing the amount of poisonous materials placed in landfills(垃圾場)and saving recyclable parts to save energy and other resources. Recycling is a way of life. Stick to that choice every single day and recycling will become second nature to us.

You may have seen a lot of frogs, but if you haven't, you must have heard about frogs. However, have you heard about a frog that can kill a person?

These small brightly colored amphibians (兩棲動物) live in the tropical  rain forests of Central and South America. They are best known for their ability to kill persons even though they are no more than 2 inches long. If we touch their poisonous skin without proper protection (such as gloves), we may die! For animals of this size that can be so deadly, they are certainly one of the world's most poisonous animals! Who are they? They are poison arrow frogs or, simply, poison frogs.

Poison frogs acquired their name from the Indians. The Indians catch and kill many of these frogs before hanging them upside down over a campfire. As the frogs get hot, the poison drips out of their skin. The Indians collect the poisonous liquid in a bottle and dip(蘸) the tips of their arrows into the bottle. Once the tips are dried, they are ready to be used for their arrows for hunting.

There are about 170 different types of poison arrow frogs in the world. Though most species have bright markings, either in stripes or patches, on their black bodies, some just wear noticeable single-colored coats. Their shocking skin colors-usually in yellow, red, green, blue or orange-serve as a warning sign to other animals. The sign simply says,” Stay away or pay with your life!” They certainly do not bluff.

Walking down a path through some woods in Georgia, I saw a small pool of water ahead on the path. I angled my direction to go around it on the part of the path that wasn't covered by water or mud. As I reached the pool, I was suddenly attacked!

Yet I did nothing for the attack. It was so unpredictable and from somewhere totally unexpected. I was surprised as well as unhurt though I had been struck four or five times. I backed up a foot and my attacker stopped attacking me. Had I been hurt I wouldn't have found it amusing. And I was laughing. After all, I was being attacked by a butterfly!

Having stopped laughing, I took a step forward. My attacker rushed me again. He charged towards me at full speed, attempting to hurt me but in vain. For a second time, I took a step backwards while my attacker paused. I wasn't sure what to do. After all, it’s just not every day that one is attacked by a butterfly. I stepped back to look the situation over. My attacker moved back to land on the ground. That's when I discovered why my attacker was charging me only moments earlier. He had a mate and she was dying.

Sitting close beside her, he opened and closed his wings as if to fan her. I could only admire the love and courage of that butterfly in his concern for his mate. He had taken it up on himself to attack me for his mate’s sake, even though she was clearly dying and I was so large. He did so just to give her those extra few precious moments of life. Should I have been careless enough to step on her? His courage in attacking something thousands of times larger and heavier than himself just for his mate’s safety seemed admirable. I couldn’t do anything other than reward him by walking on the more difficult side of the pool. He had truly earned those moments to be with her, undisturbed.

Since then, I’ve used that butterfly’s courage as an inspiration and to remind myself that good things are worth fighting for.

1.The writer changed his direction while walking down a path because he wanted_______.

A. to get close to a butterfly

B. to escape a sudden attack

C. to look over the bad situation

D. to avoid getting his shoes dirty

2.From the passage we can learn that the attacker _________.

A. struck the author four or five times and made him badly hurt

B. paused until the author took a step backwards

C. thought it was the author who caused the death of his mate

D. attacked the author for his mate’s safety and to accompany her for the last moments of life

3. From this experience the man learned_____.

A. butterflies are brave insects

B. the small can defeat the large

C. how to deal with challenges in his life

D. people should try their best to fight for everything

4.Which of the following words can best describe the butterfly?

A. caringB. ambitious

C. courageousD. aggressive
