What could be cuter than your puppy giving his doggy friend a kiss on the nose? Nothing, really. But is your dog actually planting a kiss on his friend? Yes,but that’s only one of the reasons your dog may lick another dog’s nose. Here are some other reasons why your dog may lick another dog’s nose.

During an introduction,a shy and lower-ranking dog will lower his head, avoid direct eye contact and gently extend his tongue to lick the nose of a more confident and high-ranking dog.The first dog licks the nose of the second dog to simply make it know that:he comes in peace.

Dogs who are already friends will also trade kisses. Two strongly bonded dog pals will lick and clean each other. They give each other “dog kisses” showing friendship.

Puppies also “kiss” their mothers, but it's not a gesture of love. When puppies stop suckling(吸吮)their mothers’ tits for milk and start to eat semisolid(半固體)food instead;they lick their mothers’ mouths and noses in the hope of getting the mother to regurgitate(反哺) some semi-digested food.

So how to help your bashful dog make friends with other dogs? You can carefully select confident-but-friendly and good-tempered dogs to play with your shy dog,to help him develop his social skills. Also consider taking him to a special training class that focuses on socialization and positive training technique.

Do not disturb them when your two dogs play “kiss” briefly with each other.Sit back and enjoy this display of friendship. Then call them over and have them do a command such as “sit’’ or “shake paws”.Offer them treats as a reward for being good to each other.

If you foster(收養(yǎng))a dog and have three or more resident dogs, introduce the foster dog to your brood dog one at a time and let muzzle licking between them happen naturally.Start with your least reactive or most friendly dog.Never force an in production between the dogs because this can deepen the foster dog’s submissiveness or spark a fight.

A.a(chǎn)sk the dog for helpB.show he is friendly

C.They like keeping their friendship a secret.

D.They show their friendship by “dog kisses”.

3.What does the underlined word “bashful” in Paragraphs 5 mean?

A.Shy. B.Honest. C.Lovely.D.Little.

4.What should you do if your two dogs play “kiss” briefly with each other?

A.Ask them to stay away from each other immediately.

B.Ask them to shake tails.

Do you know your uneasy adolescent might be experiencing teen depression? Of course. Teen depression isn’t just bad moods and occasional sadness—it’s a serious problem that affects every aspect of a teenager’s normal life. The negative effects can lead to problems, such as smoking, violence and even suicide. But depression can be treated. So if your teen’s unhappiness lasts for more than two weeks and he or she displays other symptoms of depression, it may be time to seek help from a health doctor.

There are multiple reasons why a teenager might become unhappy. For example, teens can develop feelings of worthlessness over their school performance. And unsatisfied family life can have a major effect on how a teen feels. Sometimes, teen depression may result from environmental stress. But whatever the cause, when friends or family—or things that the teen usually enjoy—don’t help to improve his or her sadness or sense of isolation, there’s a good chance that he or she has teen depression.

There are certain signs when teenagers are suffering from teen depression. Often, kids with teen depression will have a noticeable change in their thinking and behavior. Kids with teen depression may have a change in eating habits. Teenagers are likely to eat too much or not to eat enough for long periods of time, which should not be mistaken for an eating disorder. Parents should distinguish this change from eating disorders.

Changing in sleeping habits is another indication of adolescent depression. All teenagers love to sleep. However, a sudden change in sleep behavior for no good reason is what parents should be paying attention to.

A reduction of favorite activities, such as sports or chatting with friends, is another sign that cannot be neglected. If a teenager loves a sport and during the middle of the season suddenly decides to stop, there is a reason to be concerned about this change.

When teenagers suffer from depression, they easily get annoyed or react badly to negative things. They may become defiant as there is potential depression. The depressed teenagers may get into rude or offensive remarks as well as fighting.

Making statements of despair is another sign. They have no hope for their studies, their life and their future. This is very serious since it is estimated that every year approximately 10 teenagers from every 100,000 commit suicide.

How is it treated? Here are methods, including medications and psychotherapy. Family therapy may be helpful if family conflict is contributing to the depression. The depressed teens will also need support from teachers. Occasionally, hospitalization may be required for teenagers with severe depression.

A Korean wave is sweeping across China, with many Chinese women worshipping South Korean actors Kim Soo Hyun and Lee Min Ho as demigods (半神半人). Chinese netizens have always been divided over South Korean TV dramas, but there is no doubt that programs from the neighboring country are now enjoying a new round of popularity in China. And a big part of the credit for that goes to You Who Came From The Star, the South Korean TV series which is on the air now.

Top South Korean actors Jun Ji-hyun and Kim Soo Hyun recently earned a popularity rating of 24.8 percent in their country, considered strong by Nielsen Korea. You Who Came From The Star and The Heirs have been subjects of hot online discussions throughout Asia. Besides, the book, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, read by the hero in You Who Came From The Star was a hard-to-get item on Amazon for a while.

The two TV programs have several common elements: a tall, handsome, and rich hero who loves the heroine blindly and always protects her, and an equally handsome man madly in love with the same woman. Both programs portray the purity of love, which is expressed through a kiss or a warm hug. Perhaps that’s the secret of their success; perhaps people are still fascinated by Cinderella-type stories.

The growing wealth gap is a matter of social concern both in South Korea and China, and the challenges that young people face in their search for a better life might have prompted (激起) many ordinary girls to dream of marrying rich, caring men. This is precisely what the popular South Korean TV dramas portray. In fact, South Korean TV dramas are tailored to meet the market’s demands.

In contrast, Chinese TV screens are flooded by knock-off (山寨) or poorly made soap operas. There are too many Chinese TV dramas that are either of the stereotyped (刻板的) war theme or just blindly copy foreign programs. The lack of good stories has resulted in loads of TV series on time travel or fights in the harems (后宮) of Qing Dynasty emperors. These, in short, are the pain of Chinese TV productions.

The shooting for South Korean productions generally starts when the scripts (腳本) are just one-third ready. Many popular productions have their own websites, where scriptwriters post part of the finished scripts, inviting viewers to leave messages, discuss the plot and come up with suggestions for future events. This not only keeps viewers’ interest in the TV dramas alive, but also helps scriptwriters and directors make changes to the storylines to suit the audience’s demand.

Hopefully, the innovation-induced (創(chuàng)新引導(dǎo)的) success of South Korean TV programs will prompt Chinese TV drama makers to think up new ideas and abandon their bad practice of copying foreign productions in order to attract more viewers at home, and possibly abroad.

1.The main point the author emphasizes in this passage is ________.

A. why Korean actors are more popular than Chinese actors

B. how the three Korean actors became famous around East Asia

C. what modern TV dramas need is not copying foreign programs but innovation

D. the Cinderella-type stories are an ever-lasting theme people are fascinated with

2.Which of the following best explains people’s favor for The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane?

A. The celebrity effect is powerful.

B. Drama stars are the best advertisements.

C. Rich and handsome heroes in dramas usually love reading.

D. A successful drama generally originates from a good novel.

3.According to the passage, the secret to Korean TV dramas’ being successful is that ________.

A. drama stars must be tall, rich and handsome or beautiful

B. scriptwriters should choose the appropriate themes for all viewers

C. drama producers have creative ideas to adapt to viewers’ interest and demand

D. people’s concerns such as wealth gap both in Korea and China are taken good care of

4.What does the last paragraph imply?

A. Abandoning copying foreign productions is the only way to attract viewers.

B. The Chinese TV drama makers should follow in the footsteps of the Koreans.

C. It’s hard to predict what the future TV dramas in China and Korea will be like.

D. A bright future of Chinese TV dramas can be expected prompted by the Koreans.
