Learning a Second Language
Some people learn a second language easily. Other people have trouble learning a new language. How can you help yourself learn a new language, such as English? There are several ways to make learning English a little easier and more interesting.
The first step is to feel confident about learning English. If you believe that you can learn, you will learn. Be patient. You don't have to understand everything all at once. It is natural to make mistakes when you learn something new. We can learn from our mistakes.
The second step is to practise your English. For example, write in a diary every day. You will get used to writing in English, and you will feel comfortable expressing your ideas in English. After several weeks, you will see that your writing is improving. Besides, you must speak English every day. You can practise with your classmates after class. You will all make mistakes, but gradually you will become comfortable communicating in English.
The third step is to keep a record of your language learning. You can write this in your diary. After each class, think about what you did. Did you answer a question correctly? Did you understand anything the teacher explained? Perhaps the lesson was difficult, but you tried to understand it. Write these achievements(成就) in your diary.

For years people had told our founders, motivational speakers Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, inspiring stories about themselves. Jack and Mark included these stories in their talks, and their audiences repeatedly asked if they had ever been published. Eventually, Jack and Mark decided to collect the best 101 stories they’d been told and put them in a book. They called it Chicken Soup for the Soul because they wanted it to provide comfort, just like their grandmothers’ cooking.
They took the book to New York, hoping to sell it to one of the big publishers, but every single one turned them down. The project appeared to have stalled until they met Peter Vegso. Peter read some of the stories and loved them, so he decided to give the book a chance, becoming Chicken Soup for the Soul founding publisher.
Chicken Soup for the Soul turned into one of the most popular and loved books ever published, selling 11 million copies around the world. Today, we’ve published more than 250 books and Chicken Soup for the Soul has become the best-selling trade paperback book series of all time.
People have connected with Chicken Soup for the Soul books deeply. Years ago, we started getting letters from readers asking for more, not just more books, but other things, too. Jack and Mark recognized that Chicken Soup for the Soul had grown into something much bigger than the book series they had created. So, in 2008, William Rouhana, Amy Newmark and Robert Jacobs bought Chicken Soup for the Soul from them. Today, we have a line of comfort foods, including healthy and balanced pet foods. We’re online now with our forums, apps and a YouTube channel. We’re working hard on a new Chicken Soup for the Soul TV show and a movie. Meanwhile, we are still collecting stories from our readers and the public, just like we’ve done since the beginning. We have new books coming out almost every month. We’re always looking for ways to share happiness, inspiration and wellness through everything we do.

A. they lost interest in it

4.What’s the text mainly about?
A. The popularity of Chicken Soup for the Soul.
B. Publishing in different periods.
C. The importance of readers’ support.
D. The history of Chicken Soup for the Soul.

When I came to Cincinnati as an au pair (家庭打工留學(xué)生), a lot of things there were different from what I knew. My host family lived in a huge house I could only describe as a "castle".In Germany I had lived in a small apartment together with my mom. Soon I found out that the "castle" was actually rather small in our neighborhood.
Everybody there was very friendly and polite. They greeted you when they were walking by at least 3 feet away from you. They must not have seen a German au pair before, for most people I met asked me all kinds of questions about Germany. I enjoyed answering their various strange questions. I made a lot of friends and I started to hang out with them.
Of course, there were a number of new things, and it took me the whole year to find them all out. I never got homesick. Perhaps it was because I did not have too many negative experiences and felt loved and welcomed there.
However, I had undergone some painful experience back in Germany. I was frustrated by the way people would run me over and not even say "Sorry." Taking up my studies at the TU-Dresden, I felt lonely. Everybody here seemed to be withdrawn(離群的) and I missed everything I had in Cincinnati. Germany was so "cold". I found it so much harder to make new friends. After six months I got a roommate and only two good friends. I also flew back to Cincinnati several times for long periods. I felt that without those visits I was not able to make it.
Now I am over this German culture shock. It almost took me an entire year. I am still going back and forward between Dresden and Cincinnati four times a year.
1.When the author lived in Cincinnati, ________.
A. she lived in a real castle
B. some people were not very kind to her
C. many people were curious about her motherland
D. she lived in the biggest house in the neighborhood
2.In the opinion of the author, life in Cincinnati was ________.
A. wonderfulB. hardC. painfulD. strange
3.The underlined word "undergone" in Paragraph 4 probably means ________.
A. welcomedB. acceptedC. expectedD. suffered
4.Which of the following statements is TRUE about the author?
A. She lived with her mother in a big house in Germany.
B. She never went back to Cincinnati after she came back to Germany.
C. She seldom hung out with her American friends as she was too busy.
D. She did miss her friends in Cincinnati when she was at the TU-Dresden.
5.What is the best title for this passage?
A. University life in Germany
B. My culture shock experience
C. Advantages of living in USA
D. How to be an au pair in USA

I'd like to talking about my most memorable experience. It was a trip to Australia I had three years before with my dance group to participate in international dance festival. It was the first time I had travelled by plane in my life. My mum worried a lot, so everything went smoothly. I stayed there for two week and it was the happiest time in my life. Besides our performances there, we have much excitement. We spent on almost every morning sunbathing on the beautiful beach and swam in the blue sea. But warmly Australian nights were which I adored most of all. It was a time of joy, light, music and summer parties.

科目:高中英語 來源:2016-2017學(xué)年黑龍江大慶一中高一上10月考英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解
It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams, the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming horrible. Everybody knows that the nicest men would become fierce tigers behind the wheel. It is all right to have a tiger in a cage, but to have one in the driver’s seat is another matter.
Road politeness is not only good manners, but a good sense. It takes the most cool-headed drivers great patience to give up the desire to beat back when forced to face rude driving. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way towards reducing the possibility of quarreling and fighting. A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and becomes so necessary in modern traffic conditions. But such behavior of politeness is by no means enough. Many drivers nowadays don’t even seem able to recognize politeness when they see it.
However, misplaced politeness can also be dangerous. A typical example is the driver who waves a child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may not be able to stop in time. The same goes for encouraging old ladies to cross the road wherever and whenever they want to.
An experienced driver, whose manners are faultless, told me it would help if drivers learnt to correctly join in a traffic stream without causing total blockages that give rise to unpleasant feelings. Unfortunately, modern drivers can’t even learn to drive, let alone master the roadmanship (公路駕車技能). Years ago, experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand more give-and-take (互諒互讓) from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart.
1.The passage mainly talks about ________.
A. traffic jamsB. good manners
C. road politenessD. modern drivers
2.Troubles on the road are often caused by ________.
A. traffic jams
B. the behavior of the drivers
C. the great speed of modern life
D. terrible road conditions
3.According to the writer, a good driver should ________.
A. encourage children to cross the road whenever they want to
B. beat back when forced to face rude driving
C. be able to recognize politeness when he sees it
D. join in a traffic stream quickly however other people feel
4.It is not always right for drivers to ________.
A. master the roadmanship
B. neglect politeness when they see it
C. give a friendly nod in answer to an act of politeness
D. encourage old ladies to cross the road whenever and wherever they want to
