【題目】What will people die of 100 years from now? If you think that is a simple question, you have not been paying attention to the revolution that is taking place in biotechnology(生物技術(shù)). With the help of new medicine, the human body will last a very long time. Death will come mainly from accidents, murder and war. Today's leading killers, such as heart disease, cancer, and aging itself, will become distant memories.
In discussion of technological changes, the Internet gets most of the attention these days. But the change in medicine can be the real technological event of our times. How long can humans live? Human brains were known to decide the final death. Cells(細(xì)胞)are the basic units of all living things, and until recently, scientists were sure that the life of cells could not go much beyond 120 years because the basic materials of cells, such as those of brain cells, would not last forever. But the upper limits will be broken by new medicine. Sometime between 2050 and 2100, medicine will have advanced to the point at which every 10 years or so, people will be able to take medicine to repair their organs(The medicine, made up of the basic building materials of life, will build new brain cells, heart cells, and so on—in much the same way our bodies make new skin cells to take the place of old ones.)
It is exciting to imagine that the advance in technology may be changing the most basic condition of human existence, but many technical problems still must be cleared up on the way to this wonderful future.

President Normal
(2012年洛陽二模)BEFORE Nicolas Sarkozy became French president,he was asked if he thought about presidency when he looked in the mirror while shaving(刮胡子).“Not just when I'm shaving,”he answered.
When Francois Hollande, now presidentelect(總統(tǒng)當(dāng)選人)of France, was asked the same question,he replied:“Do I see myself as president? No,I am a presidential candidate.A candidate must not think himself president;he must give hope that he becomes president.”
Hollande has promised to be a“normal(普通的) president”-something Sarkozy certainly was not.Sarkozy celebrated his election in 2007 at a worldclass Parisian restaurant. He took holidays on the yachts(游艇)of wealthy businesspeople.Hollande,by contrast, was still going around Paris on his threewheeled motorbike at the start of this year. One member of his party said he looked“more like a pizza delivery man”than the next president.
“That is the key to Hollande's success because the election is turning into a sort of referendum(公民投票)for or against Nicolas Sarkozy,”Eric Dupin,a journalist and political observer(觀察員)told Global Post.“Francois Hollande is the one who appears not only as his main opponent(對手)politically, but also as his complete opposite psychologically(心理上).”
When he was the Socialist party leader,Hollande was nicknamed“the marshmallow(軟糖)”because he hated fights.Sarkozy,by contrast,is known to be loud and aggressive(好斗的).
When faced with Sarkozy's verbal attacks during the election,Hollande stayed calm. This sometimes annoyed even his own supporters.“I wish he would just let go and savage(用暴力對付)Sarko,”one Hollande voter said to the Guardian.
But Hollande still knows how to fight.Stéphane Le Foll,a Sicialist MEP who has been one of Hollande's closest advisors for 17 years and is codirecting his campaign, said Hollande had quietly planned his presidential bid(投標(biāo)) for 10 years.“I think we all underestimated(低估)this guy,”Alain Minc, one of Sarkozy's closest friends and advisers, told Reuters.
Hollande was born in 1954 into a middleclass family. He lived through the 1968 protests(抗議)that nearly overthrew(推翻)the French government.“They shocked him,but also politicized him,he said in a recent interview, making him understand that change was possible,”reported the New York Times. When Hollande was 15,he told friends he expected to become president.
“I didn't come to the first rank either by chance or by obsession(執(zhí)迷),”Hollande said in an interview with Reuters.“I got there because I put myself in this situation, and because I deserved (值得的;應(yīng)受的)it.”
【1】By citing Hollande and Sarkozy's replies to the same question, the author intends to show ________.
A.Sarkozy is more confident than Hollande
B.Hollande is more modest than Sarkozy
C.Hollande is less ambitious than Sarkozy
D.Sarkozy is more humorous than Hollande
【2】What is the key to Hollande's success in the presidential election according to Eric Dupin?
A.His dislike of fights.
B.His careful plan for the presidential bid.
C.How different he is form Sarkozy.
D.The gentle way in which he ran his campaign.
【3】How did Hollande react to Sarkozy's verbal attacks according to the article?
A.He fought back violently.
B.He got annoyed on the spot.
C.He didn't say anything.
D.He dealt with them calmly.
【4】What did Hollande think he owed his success to,according to the article?
A.His good luck.
B. His devotion and efforts.
C.His obsession with politics.
D.His personality and experience.
【5】What is the purpose of the article?
A.To show what kind of person Hollande is.
B.To compare the differences between Hollande and Sarkozy
C.To show what French people think of Hollande.
D.To explain why Sarkozy lost the election.

【題目】閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中選出最佳選項。
If cars had wings, they could fly and that just might happen, beginning in 2011.The company Terrafugia, based in Woburn,Massachusetts, says it plans to deliver its carplane, the Transition,to customers by the end of 2011.
“It's the next ‘wow’ vehicle,” said Terrafugia vice president Richard Gersh.“Anybody can buy a Ferrari, but as we say,F(xiàn)erraris don't fly.”
The carplane has wings that unfold for flying-a process the company says takes one minute-and fold back up for driving. A runway is still required to take off and land.
The Transition is being marketed more as a plane that drives than a car that flies, although it is both. The company has been working with FAA to meet aircraft regulations, and with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to meet vehicle safety regulations.
The company is aiming to sell the Transition to private pilots as a more convenient and cheaper way to fly. They say it saves you the trouble from trying to find another mode of transportation to get to and from airports:You drive the car to the airport and then you're good to go. When you land, you fold up the wings and hit the road. There are no expensive parking fees because you don't have to store it at an airport-you park it in the garage at home.
The carplane is designed to fly primarily under 10,000 feet. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 1,430 pounds, including fuel and passengers. Terrafugia says the Transition reduces the potential for an accident by allowin pilots to drive under the bad weather instead of flying into marginal(臨界的) conditions.
The Transition's price tag:$194,000.But there may be additional charges for options like a radio,a transponder or a GPS. Another option is a fullplane parachute.
“If you get into a very awful situation,it is the necessary safety option,” Gersh said.
So far,the company has more than 70 orders with deposits. “We're working very closely with them, but there are still some remaining steps,” Brown said.

A.The carplane needs a runway to take off and land.
B.To meet aircraft regulations, the company has been working with FAA.
C.The carplane may fly as high as normal planes.
D.People can park the carplane in the garage at their home.
【4】The underlined word “it” in the last but one paragraph refers to ________.
A.the radio
B.the transponder
C.the GPS
D.the fullplane parachute
【5】What's the best title for the passage?

Last night my brother and I went to visit a friend of me. It was a wonderfully visit. We shared much interesting things in our childhood. It was the very long drive so on the way back we stopped at a restaurant eat. He paid the bill with a tip that was five times the amount of her bill. He was too generous that the waitress could not believe he gives her that much. Back in the car I asked him that why he had left such a big tip and he responded that it would make her happier. I think he must have thought she was tired.
