【題目】Foxes and farmers have never got on well. These small dog-like animals have long been accused of killing farm animals. They are officially classified as harmful and farmers try to keep their numbers down by shooting or poisoning them.

Famers can also call on the services of their local hunt to control the fox population. Hunting consists of running after a fox across the countryside, with a group of specially trained dogs, followed by men and women riding horses. When the dogs eventually catch the fox, the kill it or a hunter shoots it.

People who take part in hunting think of it as a sport. They wear a special uniform of red coats and white trousers, and follow strict rules of behavior. But owning a horse and hunting regularly are expensive, so most hunters are wealthy.

It is estimated that up to 100,000 people watch or take part in fox-hunting. But over the last couple of decades the number of people who are against fox-hunting, because they think it is brutal(殘暴的), has risen sharply. Nowadays it is rare for a hunt to pass off without some kind of conflict between hunters and hunt opponents (阻止者). Sometimes these incidents lead to violence, but mostly opponents discourage the hunt by misleading riders and disturbing the trail of the fox's smell, which the dogs follow.

Noisy conflicts between hunters and opponents have become so common that they are almost as much a part of hunting as running after foxes itself. But this year supporters of fox-hunting face a much bigger threat to their sport. A Labour Party member of Parliament(英國議會), Mike Foster, is trying to get Parliament to approve a new law which will make the hunting of wild animals with dogs illegal. If the law is passed, wild animals like foxes will be protected under the ban in Britain.

People who take part in hunting think of it as a sport. ... so most hunters are wealthy.可知英國富有的人把獵殺作為一種運(yùn)動,一種娛樂。故選B

【2】細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)倒數(shù)第二段Sometimes these incidents lead to violence, but mostly opponents discourage the hunt by misleading riders and disturbing the trail of the fox's smell可知講到了三種干預(yù)方式,一是violence,二是misleading riders,三是disturbing the trail of the fox’s smell。

Mike Foster, is trying to get Parliament to approve a new law ...wild animals like foxes will be protected under the ban in Britain英國國會出臺的法律目的是為了保護(hù)像狐貍一樣的野生動物被獵殺。故選A

【4】推理判斷題。根據(jù)最后一段trying to get Parliament to approve a new law which will make the hunting of wild animals with dogs illegal可知英國議會出臺的新法律規(guī)定了用狗捕殺野生動物是不合法的,由此可推斷出用狗獵殺是殘忍的。故選C

Why do its streets in this particular way, and not in any way?

Here even the best guide-book us. One can't find in it the information about how a town has developed to the appearance. It may not describe the original (最初的 of a town. However, one may get some idea of what it look like by walking around the town. One can also imagine the town was first planned and built. Then one can learn more about in what direction the town to develop.

What is the of studying towns in this way? For me, it is that one gets a greater depth of pleasure by visiting and seeing a town with one's own eyes. A visit to a town may help one better understand why it is attractive just reading it in a guide-book.
