       Thanks for the letter. Now let me tell you something about the two pandas.

       The combination of Tuantuan and Yuanyuan means reunion in Chinese. They express mainland people’s hope for the reunion between the mainland and the Taiwan island. Since their arrival as gifts from the Chinese mainland in December 2008, they have been superstars on the island. Taiwan residents are excited at just a brief glimpse of these fascinating animals. During the festival, about 20,000 people visited “Tuantuan and Yuanyuan” each day and their lovely appearances made a deep impression on the visitors.

       As the symbol of peace and love, this pair of giant pandas conveys great wishes from the mainland to Taiwan. I hope that they will live happily in Taiwan and become a bridge of communication between the two sides.
