Since her husband died, Mrs. Jackson has lived alone in their big old suburban(郊區(qū)的) house, The house was bought by her husband many years ago.

       For the sake of safety (為安全起見), her son has tried hard to ask her to sell the house and buy a new and small one in the town , But Mrs. Jackson doesn’t like the idea. At the EU summit in 2005 when France quarreled with Britain over the EU budget(預(yù)算), some people believed the EU was close to breaking down. But Merkel didn’t give up. She shuttled(穿梭) between the heads of the two powers and had them reached an agreement.
