【題目】 Olympic National Park, with its temperate rainforests and breath-taking views, exerts a natural pull on many Pacific Northwestemers. But Seattle writer Rosette Royale found it repellent. To Royale, the park seemed like a damp, dirty and unpleasant place. “I couldn’t figure out why anyone would want to carry a 50-pound pack into the wilderness and camp there for days,” he said. “It didn’t make sense.”
Then he met Bryant Carlin, a vendor (小販) for Real Change, the Seattle weekly sold on the street by vendors who are homeless or low-wage earners. He was also a skilled outdoorsman and a nature photographer who would take weeks-long photographic journeys to the park. The two men connected in the fall of 2011 when Royale interviewed Carlin for a feature story in Real Change about Carlin’s photography.
That first time they met—and for years afterward—Carlin invited Royale to go camping with him. Each time, Royale said “Thanks, but no thanks.” Until one day, in the spring of 2015, Royale surprised himself by saying yes. “Little did I know,” said Royale, “that saying ‘yes’ would change the course of my life.”
Royale and Carlin went on five separate journeys to the Olympic wilderness. They camped in spring, summer, fall and winter. For Royale, the trips were exhausting and terrifying. But the trips were also inspiring, and helped Royale—a black, strange man—to develop a relationship with the outdoors that he had never experienced before.
For Carlin, the trips were an opportunity to throw off the label of “homeless”. In Olympic National Park, sleeping outside just means you’re a camper. But there was one aspect of Carlin’s life in the city that he couldn’t escape: alcohol abuse. While he never brought beer on their camping journeys, the effects of years of drinking weren’t so easy to leave behind.
【1】What does the underlined word “repellent” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Appealing.B.Puzzling.
C.Rewarding.D.Disgusting.
【2】According to Royale, what made his life course changed?
A.His first meeting with Carlin.B.His rejection of Carlin’s invitation.
C.His camping trips with Carlin.D.His reading of Carlin’s feature story.
【3】What did the trips with Royale mean to Carlin?
A.They improved his photography skills.
B.They helped him feel a sense of belonging.
C.They deepened his relationship with nature.
D.They enabled him to get rid of alcohol addiction.

【題目】Directions: Read the following passage. Complete the diagram by using the information from the passage.
Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.
Working women with young children often face a dilemma(進退兩難的困境) of whether to keep working or to quit to take care of their children. Though the fact that married women work outside the homes has become a social trend, many people still expect mothers to stay home until their children are two or three years old. In my opinion,it’s unfair to deprive(剝奪) mothers of their right to keep working only for the reason of childcare.
Women also need a sense of achievement just like men. Working women often find it difficult to give up the chance of self-fulfillment(自我實現(xiàn)) and go back home to play the traditional role. The times that women should stay at home passed and we should not neglect(忽視) mothers’ desire to seek further goals outside the home.
Besides, taking care of children is both parents’ responsibility(責任) rather than only mothers’. Children belong to the father and the mother. So it is unreasonable to ask mothers to give up their jobs for childcare because it is also fathers’ duty.
Practically speaking, working mothers can help improve family finances. Though there’ll be extra expense for childcare service, working mothers have a steady income to help the family. Therefore, mothers’ working outside is good for the family, especially to those low-income ones.
In a word, to expect mothers to put childcare before everything is not practical in today’s society. Only if fathers and mothers cooperate can the problem be solved.

【題目】 Typically, a person sitting in the driver's seat of a car opens the door with the hand closest to it. It makes sense since doors are designed to be opened that way. Pull the handle(把手) and immediately the door is open. But if you happen to do that at the wrong time, you may create an obstacle(阻礙) for a passing cyclist without knowing it. Then the cyclist will be sent falling off the bike, and the car door is likely to be damaged by the fast-moving bicycle.
The car door design and long-time habits have made the process instinctual but clearly the solution is for the person getting out of the vehicle to check for traffic. Luckily, there's a simple way to solve the problem: the Dutch reach. In other words, instead of using your left hand, reach for the door latch(門鎖) with your right hand. This will force you to turn your body and look into your side view mirror to see whether any car or bike is coming.
'It's just what Dutch people do,' said Fred Wegman, the former managing director of the National Institute for Road Safety Research in the Netherlands. 'All the Dutch are taught it. It's part of regular driver education.'
The technique dates back about 50 or 60 years, and it was very popular between the 1960s and the 1980s. But it didn't really become known as the Dutch reach until American physician named Michael Charney started the Dutch Reach Project in 2016 in an effort to popularize the practice in the United States. According to The Times, he was motivated by the death of a 27-year-old who rode into an open car door and died just five blocks from his home in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Charney's efforts may be paying off. Both Massachusetts and Illinois now include the Dutch reach in their drivers’ manuals(手冊).
【1】What is the first paragraph intended to show?
A.The poor design of the car door and handle.
B.A common conflict between cars and bicycles.
C.A main cause of traffic accidents related to cyclists.
D.Possible risks connected with opening the car door.
【2】What does the underlined word 'instinctual' in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.DifficultB.Possible
C.NaturalD.Dangerous
【3】How does the Dutch reach help to reduce traffic accidents?
A.By making the person open the car door more easily.
B.By forcing the person to check for approaching traffic.
C.By reminding the person of the traffic lights frequently.
D.By helping the person see the side view mirror more clearly.
【4】What made Charney introduce the Dutch reach into America?
A.Its popularity among Dutch people.
B.Its appearance in drivers’ manuals.
C.A project started in the year 2016.
D.The death caused by a traffic accident.
