In an ideal world, people would not test medicines on animals. Such experiments are stressful and sometimes painful for animals, and expensive and time-consuming for people. Yet animal experimentation is still needed to help bridge vast gaps in medical knowledge. That is why there are some 50 to 100 million animals used in research around the world each year.
Europe, on the whole, has the world's most restrictive (嚴(yán)格的) laws on animal experiments. Even so,its scientists use some 12 million animals a year, most of them mice and rats, for medical research. Official statistics show that just 1.1 million animals are used in research in America each year. But that is misleading. The American authorities do not think mice and rats are worth counting and, as these are the most common laboratory animals, the true figure is much higher. Japan and China have even less comprehensive (全面的) data than America.
Now Europe is reforming the rules governing animal experiments by restricting the number of animals used in labs. Alternatives to animal testing, such as using human tissue or computer models, are now strongly recommended. In addition, sharing all research results freely should help to reduce the number of animals for scientific use. At present, scientists often share only the results of successful experiments. If their findings do not fit the hypothesis (假設(shè)) being tested, the work never sees the light of day. This practice means wasting time, money, and animals' lives in endlessly repeating the failed experiments.
Animal experimentation has taught humanity a great deal and saved countless lives. It needs to continue, even if that means animals sometimes suffer. Europe's new measures should eventually both reduce the number of animals used in experiments and improve the way in which scientific research is conducted.
(1)What is the main idea of this passage?
A.The success of animal experiments should be ensured.
B.A ban on the use of animals in the lab should be enforced.
C.Greater efforts need to be taken to reduce the number of lab animals.
D.Scientists should be required to share their research results with each other.
(2)Which of the following statements is true about animals used in the lab?
A.America uses only about 1.1 million lab animals per year.
B.Europe does not use mice and rats as lab animals at all.
C.Britain does not use as many lab animals as China does.
D.Japan has limited data on the number of lab animals used each year.
(3)Which of the following is mentioned as an alternative to replace animal experiments?
A.Statistical studies.
B.Computer models.
C.DNA planted in animals.
D.Tissue from dead animals.
(4)What usually happens to unsuccessful animal experiments?
A.They are not made known to the public.
B.They are made into teaching materials.
C.They are collected for future publication.
D.They are not removed from the research topic list.

根據(jù)第三段中的“Alternatives to animal testing, such as using human tissue or computer models, are now strongly recommended. In addition, sharing all research results freely should help to reduce the number of animals for scientific use.”
根據(jù)第二段中的“its scientists use some 12 million animals a year, most of them mice and rats”排除B;根據(jù)“Official statistics show that just 1.1 million animals are used in research in America each year. But that is misleading...., the true figure is much higher”可知,A項(xiàng)錯(cuò)誤;”Japan and China have even less comprehensive data than America.”
根據(jù)第三段中的“Alternatives to animal testing, such as using human tissue or computer models, are now strongly recommended.”
根據(jù)倒數(shù)第二段中的“If their findings do not fit the hypothesis being tested, the work never sees the light of day. This practice means wasting time, money, and animals' lives in endlessly repeating the failed experiments.” 故選A。

Every one can try his best to achieve. We don't need to be the best, but to tough out the limits of what we are capable of.I gained this belief from my third grade teacher, the mast special honored, trustworthy, and loved person in my life.
Mr.Myrus was always perfectly dressed and spoke with the belief that talking to eight-year-olds didn’t mean he had to sacrifice proper statements or grammars. And he was demanding but he wasn't unreasonable or cruel. He simply felt that no matter what your best was,you should achieve it.
As luck would have it,I met him again as my eighth grade math teacher.I was not,nor ever will be,gifted in math. I remember my struggles in class."I don't know the answer,"I would say,"I can’t do it!"“Perhaps you don't know the answer,”he would say quietly."Do you think we might figure it out together? How do you know what you can do until you try?"
Mr.Myrus lived around the comer, and I would often stop by to talk while he worked in his garden.I knew there was someone who let me know that if I had really tried, that was enough.
"Don't be so hard on yourself,"he'd say."Stop blaming yourself.Did you try your best?Well, then you're not a failure,"he often told me these words.
Mr.Myrus died in 1978.I had never thought about his death. He was too young.I felt sorry. But when I think about him now,I don't feel so sorry. He taught me to be kind, not only to others, but to myself. He taught me my own value. He taught me about honor, about truth, and about doing my best—and that all feelings and beliefs have dignity and deserve respect. And of all the things I know, this I believe: We can't all be “the best”,but we can, each of us,be our best, and I know that's true because Mr.Myrus told me that.

Want to travel easily? Here are some tips that help you reduce the size of your luggage.
Roll clothes instead of folding them. Many people try to fold their clothes into their little suitcase. 【1】 It actually makes far more sense to roll your clothes rather than fold them. Starting from the bottom, roll up your clothes into very tightly packed cylinders (圓柱體) which you can stack (堆疊) on top of each other.
Use vacuum bags (真空袋), when possible. 【2】 Buy some vacuum bags and seal all of your clothes up tightly. Having all of your luggage vacuum sealed will reduce the size of your items greatly. That will allow you to take more of what’s needed.
Always take travel bottles. Even though you are allowed to take full sized bottles in your suitcase, to make sure that you are under the weight allowance, it’s recommended that you still stick to travel-sized bottles. 【3】 Besides, it will also prevent you from wasting any product. If you do run out of anything while you are on holiday, you can always buy more.
【4】 If you do need to take a coat, you can wear it on the journey so you don’t have to pack it in your suitcase. Another method you can use is wearing multiple layers (多層衣服) on the journey although this isn’t always the most comfortable.
Research the weather in advance. A great way to prevent packing clothes that you won’t end up wearing is to research what the weather is going to be like where and when you go on holiday. 【5】 You can know how hot it’s likely going to be, as well as how much rain on average the destination receives each month.
A. It will free up enough room for you.
B. Don’t put any shoes in your suitcase.
C. It will make your suitcase much lighter.
D. Purchase a high and soft-sided suitcase.
E. Wear anything that takes up a lot of room.
F. There are plenty of websites that can predict it.
G. This is not the best way to pack your holiday goods.
