The decision to enter F1 and compete at the highest level of motorsport was an intended move by Toyota, the world’s third largest auto manufacturer ,to further challenge its own capabilities. By going head-to-head with the industry’s top performers on the world’s premier racing stage ,the Japanese giant was setting itself a huge task. A sport with an enormous international following, the risks of entering the F1 arena are high—but there are rich rewards for those who succeed .Besides being a showcase for state-of-the-art technology, the intense competition in this most demanding of racing disciplines leaves no room for self-satisfaction. More importantly, it fosters(培養(yǎng))the kind of forward-thinking team spirit that Toyota is seeking.

While F1 benefited greatly from the added prestige of having such a distinguished newcomer among its competitors ,the demands placed on Panasonic Toyota Racing last year revealed the shortcomings of not having enough experience as a team .Mistakes were made and valuable lessons were learned ,among which was the fundamental truth: “To stand still in F1 is to go backwards.”

With the past in mind ,preparations for the 2003 season included sweeping changes on both the technical and personnel(人事的)sides. The management at Toyota Motorsport GmbH was restructured , with John Howett moving from Toyota Motor Marketing Europe to become President ,thus enabling the company founder , Ove Andersson ,more time to concentrate on the operation of the race team at the track .Andersson’s value as an inspirational leader was one of the team’s biggest assets(財富)in 2002.

B.If Toyota doesn’t make improvements ,they will fall behind.

C.Keeping calm will help go forward.

D.In order to keep up with other teams ,Toyota has to stand still.

69.We can learn from the passage that     .

(河北省正定中學(xué)2010高三下學(xué)期第二次月考E篇)

“ A very disruptive(擾亂型的) six-year old child kicked my legs and clawed at my hand,”said one teacher.  “I  broke up a fight and was kicked between my legs,”said another. Many people have heard stories like this.  But the situation is more worrying still and it involves parents.

Every child , regardless of the circumstances into which they are born, has the right to achieve their potential, regardless of their parents’  wealth and class.  And we recognize that, as a nation,it is a long way to achieve this goal .But rights come with responsibilities and what worries people is that we are in danger of neglecting the latter.

Far too many children are behaving badly at school, even to the point of being violent to staff. This is terrible enough, but it is hard to be surprised since many children are just mirroring the behavior of their parents. Too many are starting school unable to hold a knife and fork, unused to eating at a table, and unable to use the lavatory properly.

We are in danger of becoming a nation of families living separate lives under one roof. The bedroom, once a place to sleep, has become the living space for the young.  Spending hours in front of computer screens, on social networking sites or being immersed in computer games, children and young people spend little time with their parents. Parents are unable to monitor just what their children are watching.

Schools cannot right the wrongs of society and teachers cannot become substitute parents. Both parties need to work together. Parents must be helped and given confidence to take back control. They are responsible for setting boundaries for their children’s behavior and sticking to those boundaries when the going gets tough. They are responsible for setting a good example to their children and for devoting that most precious of resources---time----so that children come to school ready and willing to learn.

56. In the opinion of the writer, what problem do people ignore?

A. The school violence.

B. The pressure of students’ learning

C. The right to achieve students potential.

D. the responsibilities of the students.

57. The writer’s attitude to the behaviors of parents may be that of ________.

A. dissatisfied          B. unconcern     C. understadning    D. tolerance

58. The underlined part in Para 4 may means__________.

A. parents and children live in their separate rooms

B. parents care little about children’s life at home

C. children don’t live with their parents in the same room

D. at home children live a different life from that of parents

59. From the last paragraph, we can infer that______.

A. schools can’t correct the wrongs that society does to teachers

B. teachers have no responsibility for playing the role of parents

C. parents should spend time with children making them ready to learn

D. students are responsible for making themselves known in society

60. What might be most suitable title for the passage?

  1. Children’s behavior at school is worrying people
  2. Parents expect schools to correct their children’s bad habits
  3. There is no point in parents’ teaching children at home
  4. Don’t blame teachers when it’s parents who are failing

 (07·重慶E篇)

Throughout the history of the arts, the nature of creativity has remained constant to artists. No matter what objects they select, artists are to bring forth new forces and forms that cause change-to find poetry where no one has ever seen or experienced it before.

Landscape(風(fēng)景) is another unchanging element of art. It can be found from ancient times through the 17th-century Dutch painters to the 19th-century romanticists and impressionists. In the 1970s Alfred Leslie, one of the new American realists, continued this practice. Leslie sought out the same place where Thomas Cole, a romanticist, had produced paintings of the same scene a century and a half before. Unlike Cole who insists on a feeling of loneliness and the idea of finding peace in nature, Leslie paints what he actually sees. In his paintings, there is no particular change in emotion, and he includes ordinary things like the highway in the background. He also takes advantage of the latest developments of color photography(攝影術(shù)) to help both the eye and the memory when he improves his painting back in his workroom.

Besides, all art begs the age-old question: What is real? Each generation of artists has shown their understanding of reality in one form or another. The impressionists saw reality in brief emotional effects, the realists in everyday subjects and in forest scenes, and the Cro-Magnon cave people in their naturalistic drawings of the animals in the ancient forests. To sum up, understanding reality is a necessary struggle for artists of all periods.

Over thousands of years the function of the arts has remained relatively constant. Past or present, Eastern or Western, the arts are a basic part of our immediate experience. Many and different are the faces of art, and together they express the basic need and hope of human beings.

73. What is the author's opinion of artistic reality?

A. It will not be found in future works of art.

B. It does not have a long-lasting standard.

C. It is expressed in a fixed artistic form.

D. It is lacking in modern works of art.

74. What does the author suggest about the arts in the last paragraph?

Chinese mainland's star-making reality TV show "Happy Boy" will not be open to male applicants from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau or other foreign cities, said the country's top TV industry committee yesterday.

Happy Boy is the male version of Super Girl, which is regarded as the Chinese version of American Idol. Martha’s Vineyard has long been considered a favorite quiet of the Northeast. The vineyard is rich in history, breathtaking beaches, and beautiful scenery. It is well known for its unique lighthouses – you’ll enjoy the variety and the history of each lighthouse, among the most photographed structures on the Vineyard. When the former First Family, the Clintons, chose to vacation on the island several years ago, it became a more popular tourist attraction.

Martha’s Vineyard got its name from its discoverer, Bartholomew Gosnold, who gave it the name of his wife Martha and was in memory of the thick growth of wild trees on the land.

Animals are more like us than we ever imagined. They feel pain, they experience stress, they show affection, excitement and love. All these findings have been made by scientists in recent years---and such results are beginning to change how we view animals.

Strangely enough, some of this research was sponsored by fast food companies like McDonald’s and KFC.Pressured by animal rights groups , these companies felt they had to fund scientists researching the emotional and mental states of animals.

McDonald’s, for instance, funded studies on pig behavior at Purdue University, Indiana. This research found that pigs seek affection and easily become depressed if left alone or prevented from playing with each other. If they become depressed, they soon become physically ill.Because of this, and other similar studies, the European Union has banned the use of isolating pig stalls from 2010.In Germany, the government is encouraging pig farmers to gibe each pig 20 seconds of human contact a day, and to provide them with toys to prevent them from fighting

Other scientists have shown that animals think and behave like humans.Koko, the 300-pound gorilla at the Gorilla Foundation in Northern California, for instance, has been taught sigh language.Koko can now understand several thousand English words, more than many humans who speak English as a second language. On human IQ tests, she scores between 70 and 95.

Before such experiments, humans thought language skills were absent from the animal kingdom.Other myths are also being overturned, like the belief that animals lack

self-awareness.Studies have also shown that animals mourn their dead, and that they play for pleasure.

These striking similarities between animal and human behavior have led some to ask a question: “If you believe in evolution, how can’t you believe that animals have feelings that human beings have?”

Until recently, scientists believed that animals behaved by instinct and that what appeared to be learned behavior was merely genetically-programmed activity. But as Koko the Gorilla shows, this is not the case.In fact, learning is passed from parent to offspring far more often than not in the animal kingdom.

So what implications does this knowledge have for humans? Because of this, should we ban hunting and animal testing? Should we close zoos? Such questions are being raised by many academics and politicians.Harvard and 25 other American law schools have introduced courses on animal rights.Germany meanwhile, recently guaranteed animal rights in its constitution---the first country to do so.

68.McDonald’s and KFC give money to support scientist to do research on animals,because_____

A.they are international big companies.

B.they love animals.

C.they are pressured by animal right groups.

D.they earn a large amount of money and want to do some good deeds.

69.The research on pigs at Purdue University shows that______

A.pigs love being alone.

B.pigs easily become physically ill.

C.pigs need affection.

D.pigs don’t like to play with each other.

70.Which of the following statements is NOT true?

       A.Animals behave by instinct.

       B.Animals have self-awareness.

       C.Animals have feelings and love.

D.Animals do not have language skills.

71.Should we ban hunting and animal testing?

we all know that eveyone becomes a little more forgetful as they get older, but men’s minds decline more than women’s, according to the results of a worldwide survey.

General differences seem to be inherent in male and female brains: men are better at maintaining and dealing with mental images ( useful in mathematical reasoning and spatial (空間的)skills), while women tend to excel (擅長) at recalling information from their brain’s files. Many studies have looked for a connection between sex and the amount of mental decline people experience as they age, but the results have been mixed. Some studies found more age-related decline in men than in women, while others saw the opposite or even no relationship at all between sex and mental decline. Those results could be improper because the studies involved older people, and women live longer than men: The men testd are the survivors, “ so they’re the ones that may not have shown such cognitive (認(rèn)知的)decline,” said study team leader Elizabeth of the University of Warwick in English.

People surveyed completed four tasks that tested sex-related cognitive skills: matching an object to its rotated (旋轉(zhuǎn)的) form, matching lines shown from the same angle, typing as many words in a particular category as possible in the given time, e.g. “ object usually colored gray”, and recalling the location of objects in a line drawing. The first two were tasks at which men usually excel; the latter are typically dominated by women. Within each age group studied, men and woen performed better in their separate categories on average. And though performance declined with age for both genders, women showed obviously less decline than men overall.
