My name is Tina Duong. I came from Vietnam. I had a big house in Vietnam, and my family lived together. My father, mother, brother and sister,we had a business.
After 1975 my family immigrated to Malaysia by a small boat. When we were on the sea,we were very worried about the robbers on the sea,but we were very lucky. After 48 hours,we arrived in Malaysia. We stayed in Kuala Lumpur for two days before they sent us to Bulaubidong Camp. In Bulaubidong we lived there while waiting for my brother to sponsor us. We lived in the camp. We couldn't leave the camp to find firewood,vegetables- or any food for the children because it was forbidden to go outside the camp. My husband went fishing for small fish and we didn't have enough rice to cook. When the children were sick,we didn't have medicine for them. After two years, the person who sponsored us was my husband's brother. We left the camp to go to Philip?pines. We had to study English there for six months and then we went to the United States. When we first arrived? we had trouble because we didn't speak Eng?lish very well. We didn't get used to the customs and way of life in the United States. I couldn't use the oven, turn on the tap and shower, nor vacuum (用真空吸塵器清掃) the floor because I had never met these things in my homeland.
Finally,I lived through the tough times and got to learn how things work with hard work and determina?tion. My family and I succeeded in life. We now have a very happy family,a nice house and a successful busi?ness. My children are studying hard in school and are bound to be successful in the future.

I just had one of the most interesting experiences of my life, and wanted to share it with my dearest friends.
One cold evening,I drove home and was stuck in a traffic jam, when my car started to die. I managed to coast into a gas station in order not to get in others' way. Before I made the call to ask for help,I found a crying woman. T walked towards her and asked her if she needed help. She said she was driving to California and that things were very hard for her right now.
I helped her fill up her car completely, walked to the McDonald's and bought 2 big bags of food, some gifts and a big cup of coffee. She gave the food to the kids in the car. They ate them quickly. And we stood eating fries and talking a little.
She told me her name, and that she lived in Kansas City. Her husband left 2 months ago and she was not able to support her family. So she went to California to find her parents. She packed up everything she owned in the car. She told the kids they were going to Califor?nia for Christmas, but not that they were going to live there.
I gave her my gloves,a little hug and said a quick prayer (祈禱) with her for safety on the road. As I was walking over to my car,she said, "So,are you like an angel or something?"
