B [2015 •陜西師大附中高考模擬]

On her first morning in America , last summer , my daughter went out to explore her new neighbourhood―alone, without even telling my wife or me. Of course we were wor?ried; we had just moved from Berlin, and she was just 8. But when she came home, we realized we had no reason to panic. Beaming with pride, she told us how she had discovered the little park around the corner, and had made friends with a few local dog owners.

When this story comes up in conversations with Ameri?can friends, we usually meet with polite disbelief. Most are horrified by the idea that their children might roam (閑逛) around without adult supervision(監(jiān)管).

A study by the University of California has found that American kids spend 90 per cent of their leisure time at home, often in front of the TV or playing video games. Such narrowing of children's world has happened across the devel?oped world. But German parents are generally much more ac?cepting of letting children take some risks.

"We are depriving(剝奪)them of opportunities to learn how to take control of their own lives," writes Peter Gray, a research professor at Boston College. He argues that this in?creases the chance that they will suffer from anxiety, depres?sion, and various other mental disorders, which have gone up dramatically in recent decades.

I am no psychologist like Professor Gray, but I know I won't be around forever to protect my girls from the challen?ges life holds in store for them. And by giving kids more con?trol over their lives, they learn to have more confidence in their own capabilities.

5. Hearing the author's daughter exploring the new neighbour?hood alone, his American friends feel .

A. worried                                B. proud

C.  doubtful                            D. terrified

 6. We can conclude from Paragraph 3 that .

A.     American kids enjoy playing at home

B.     German parents are less protective than American par?ents

C.     German kids like taking risks more than American kids

D.     American parents don't limit their children's activities in their leisure time

 7. It's implied from Professor Gray's words that ,

A.     parents should always be around their children to pro?tect them from risks

B.     more and more parents suffer from mental problems

C.     children are having more opportunities to take control of their lives

D.     giving children more freedom is beneficial for their mental development

8.Which of the following words can best describe the author's parenting?

A. Liberal.                               B. Irresponsible.

Building a company website is one of the most important parts of creating a successful business. But designing a web?site can be time-consuming and expensive. With unlimited space for as many pages as you want, customized looks, photo galleries, blog platform capabil?ities, and social networking buttons, Wix has everything a business of any size needs to make an impact online. You get full control over what information fills in the blanks, and you don't have to know a thing about HTML to make this work. 丁he way your website looks says a lot about your company. Christmas in the United States is traditionally a time of gift-giving and family gatherings. But small towns across the country have their own traditions.

Middleburg, a small town in the state of Virginia, is known for its horses. For more than 50 years, Middleburg has organized a yearly Christmas parade(游行).Men and women ride horses through the woods and fields. They follow hunting dogs as they search for a wild fox. But first, these hunters ride in the yearly parade, wearing their bright red hunting clothes and hats.

John Hale,a citizen of Middleburg says many city people visit his town. "We have a lot of people from an urban area that come to visit, but it incorporates a lot of the old tradi?tions. "The night-time hay ride is one such tradition. Small groups gather under the moonlight on an open wagon filled with hay. The passengers sing as farm horses pull the wagon slowly across the fields.

There are some newer traditions , too. Trey Matheu works at the nearby Salamander Resort. He says a visit to Middleburg is a chance to slow down for a day. He says Mid?dleburg can be a calming, peaceful place without tension.

"Middleburg is an opportunity to take a step back, take a deep breath, and understand that even though life is moving on at a very fast pace, there's really an opportunity where you're allowed to step off for a little bit."

Parade organizers say more than 13,000 people attend even in below-freezing weather. But if you ask,you will hear many different reasons why people come to watch the parade:

"I come here because I'm from a small town. I like how everybody comes together. "" I live right down that street; right there. And that's my dog."

Middleburg looks its best at Christmas time. That may be why so many people return each year.

A [2015 .洛陽高三二模] One winter, my cousin and I were playing toy blocks in the yard. My mum was out for shopping to get groceries and my dad was asleep upstairs in his room. Suddenly, it started to snow. First it was just a little. But then it started to pour heavily.

Then, we put the finishing touches to our blocks and headed back inside. Right when I opened the sliding glass door, my cousin fell down on the slippery wooden stairs. I let go of the door, my worst mistake, you see. The door locks automatically ? but I had put a rock right next to the door so it wouldn't close. But while I was running to my cousin's aid, I'd accidentally kicked the rock.

Now, my cousin and I were locked outside. And unfor?tunately it started to get really windy. It was really freezing with the snow. First we started to call my dad, but he was sleeping soundly. I mean he was sleeping through a tornado soundly. It was of no use.

Then I tried to climb over the fence but it didn't work be?cause the fence was iced up by snow and wind, and the fence was six feet high. So, I climbed up to my tree house and brainstormed some ideas on ways to get in. At one point, I was seriously considering jumping out of the tree house and use the trampoline(蹦床)to jump over the fence.

So, we got to work. First, I took out the trampoline. Then I started to jump. First try―I almost cracked my head. Second try―this time I convinced my cousin to do it but at the last second, he chickened out. Third try―I jumped and missed but at the last second, my hand caught the fence, and with a lot of pushing I finally climbed over the fence and luck?ily, I fell on a big snowdrift.

Finally, my mum came back. Then I got inside and un?locked the door for my cousin to get in. Then we shared this story with my mum and dad.
