5.概要寫(xiě)作
閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)其內(nèi)容寫(xiě)一篇60詞左右的內(nèi)容概要.
An average adult breathes more than 3,000gallons of air every day.Children breathe even more.Air pollution is more harmful to the children than to the adults.Air pollution can cause breathing problems,disorders(紊亂) in the nervous system and an increased risk of cancer later in life.
The American Lung Association explains why children are so affected by air pollution.Children are usually more active than adults.As a result,they breathe more rapidly and take more pollution deep into their lungs.Children also often breathe through their mouths,not through their noses.The mouth can't filter(過(guò)濾) out pollutants as well as the nose.Finally,children usually spend an average of 50percent more time outdoors than adults,especially in summer.Air pollution is the worst in summer.
In the past 30years,programs to reduce air pollution in cities have made great progress.Most of the programs have centered on getting factories to reduce the pollution that they put into the air.New programs aim at reducing air pollution in children's daily lives.A good example of this is a new kind of"No Smoking"law.Its goal is to reduce secondhand smoke-cigarette smoke in the air that others breathe in.
Experts say that secondhand smoke is just as dangerous outside as inside.Over 70cities in the United States now prohibit(禁止) smoking in public places.Several cities rule that smokers have to pay 100to 25o dollars for their smoking in any outdoor public area.
Some city officials are in favor of the new laws because they want to reduce the amount of secondhand smoke that children breathe.Others want to improve the environment in general.Most want both.A city health official in San Francisco,California,said"All of us that live in cities are exposing ourselves to poisonous matter".I'm in favor of anything that cleans up our environment.

4.The idea that animals can sense earthquakes is a popular one,and stories about animals'strange behavior before earthquakes have been told for centuries.Catfish moving violently, chickens that stop laying eggs and bees leaving their hive in a panic have been reported.Countless pet owners claimed to have witnessed their cats and dogs acting strangely before the ground shook-barking or whining(哀叫) for no reason,or showing signs of nervousness and restlessness.
Can humans use animals as earthquake detectors(探測(cè)器)?Debate over whether or not animals can truly sense earthquakes has not solved the question.Support for the idea that animals can sense earthquakes includes studies which suggest that animals may be able to feel the Earth vibrate(振動(dòng)) before humans.Other ideas suggest that animals may sense electrical changes in the air or gas released from the Earth which could be indicators(預(yù)示) of an earthquake.
However, other researchers think the animals'ability is very doubtful. Some scientists feel that there is no strong scientific evidence to support the idea that animals can sense earthquakes. They say that it is difficult to develop a controlled study which can connect a specific animal behavior with an earthquake occurrence. They suggest that human psychology may have an effect on pet owners,as they may want to attribute(歸于) powers of sensing earthquakes to their animals.Others have also pointed out that animals react to so many things-being hungry, defending their land, mating, enemies…And if an earthquake can shake millions of people,it is likely that a few of their pets will,by chance,be acting strangely before an earthquake.
Whether or not animals can sense earthquakes before humans do remains to be seen.
