【題目】閱讀理解
Although Paris is often considered the city of romance, close to a million adult who call it home are single. Many single people say that France's capital is one of the most difficult places to meet people. The complaints of this lonely group have inspired a new phenomenon known as “supermarket dating.” At Galerie Lafayette Gourmet, singles can shop for more than just the items on their grocery list. They can look for someone who has blue eyes, brown hair, and is 1.8 meters tall, or whatever may be on their romantic shopping list.
At this Paris location, single people of all ages can schedule their shopping for Thursday nights between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. When they walk through the door, they pick up a purple basket to advise that they are looking for love. They try to arrive early because the baskets disappear quickly, and then they have to wait in line for their turn to wander the store aisles.
With purple baskets in hand, shoppers can consider their romantic options while they pick out their groceries. When they are ready to pay, they can go to the checkout line for singles who want to chat.
Most of the people who look for love in the supermarket are skeptical of Internet dating. They know that it is easy to embellish(美化)one's appearance or to lie about one's age over the Internet. The supermarket, on the other hand, is considered a safe and casual environment in which to meet a potential match. In addition, what one finds in another's grocery basket can say a thing or two about that person's character or intentions. Buying pet food can be a man's way of showing a potential match that he has a sensitive side. Women who fill their baskets with low-fat food show their healthy style of living. These days it's possible to find much more than food at a grocery store.

【題目】One of the two major types of smog - consisting of smoke fog, sulfur dioxide (二氧化硫), sulfuric acid, ash, and soot (煤煙) -is called London smog. Indeed, the word smog is thought to have originated in England in 1905 as a short form of the words “smoke” and “fog.”
Probably the worst case of smog in history started in London on Thursday, 4 December, 1952. 【1】 A temperature inversion (逆溫) placed a blanket of warm air over the cold air. With nightfall, a thick fog and below-freezing temperatures caused the people of London to put coal into their small stoves. Millions of these fires burned throughout the night, pouring sulfur dioxide and smoke into the air. The next day, Friday, the people continued to bum coal when the temperature remained below freezing.【2】
Saturday was a day of darkness. For twenty miles around London, no light came through the smog. The air was cold and still.【3】 On Monday, 8 December, more than one hundred people died of heart attacks while trying desperately to breathe.【4】
By the time a light wind cleared the air on Tuesday, 9 December, more than 4,000 deaths had been caused by the smog. This is more people than were ever killed in any single hurricane, mine disaster, shipwreck, or airplane crash.【5】 Air pollution events may not seem as serious and shocking as other disasters, but they can be just as deadly.
A. Where does “smog” come from?
B. Soot and ash can be removed in a scientific way.
C. And the coal fires continued to bum throughout the weekend.
D. A large cold air mass moved into the valley of the Thames River.
E. The factories added their smoke and chemical gas to the atmosphere.
F. This is more people than were killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
G. The city’s hospitals were overflowing with patients with breathing-related diseases.

【題目】閱讀下面材料,在空白處填入適當?shù)膬?nèi)容(1個單詞)或所給單詞的正確形式。
Many English language learners believe that the (great) difficulty with listening comprehension (理解) is that the listener cannot control how quickly a speaker speaks. They feel that what the speaker says disappears they can follow. This frequently means that students are learning to listen cannot keep up. They are so busy working out the meaning one part of what they hear that they miss the next part. Or they (simple) ignore a whole section because they fail to catch it quickly enough. Another difficulty is that the listener is not always in a position to get the speaker to repeat what has been said. And, of course, repeats cannot (ask) for when listening to the radio or watching TV.
Besides, (choose) of vocabulary is in the hands of the speaker, not the listener. Very often, for people listening to a foreign language, an unknown word can be like a suddenly (drop) stone making them stop and think about the meaning of the word, (cause) them to miss the next part of the speech. In listening, it really is a case of “He who (stop) to work out the meaning is lost.”

On December 10th last year, we paid a visit of a high-tech agricultural garden. It took us one and a half hour to get there. The natural environment there was very pleased, and we could breathe fresh air. The intelligent glass greenhouse, where many kinds of fruits and vegetables were growing there, was really amazing. Though it was very cold outside, the greenhouse controlling by a computer could provide a proper temperature. That was also very interesting to be surrounded with different plants. We could see so many colorful fruits and vegetables in the greenhouse where all of us have never seen before. Luckily, we allowed to taste some of the fruits and vegetables.
