請認(rèn)真閱讀下列短文,并根據(jù)所讀內(nèi)容在文章后表格中的空格里填入最恰當(dāng)?shù)膯卧~。注意:每空格1個單詞。

Going up to university to study for a degree means you have decided to study professionally, rather than as an amateur; so being a student is now your profession for at least the next four years.

This involves a change of attitude in many ways. Now, instead of taking several subjects, you have chosen one major subject because you find it interesting and worth exploring further. You also have before you the goal of getting a degree. The degree and the stages you have to pass through to achieve it give you motivation. You are no longer forced to stay in school all day, and apart from your class time, you organize your own time and place for studying.

Another change is in the relationship with those who teach you. You are there to study actively rather than to be taught passively. Your teachers may or may not urge you, but they do want you to share their interest in the subject and they want you to succeed. If you get work back with a poorer mark than you expected and with various criticisms, don’t feel discouraged by this; if you don’t understand what is wrong and how to improve, ask your teacher to explain and don’t be satisfied until you do understand.

Professionalism involves training and practicing. Some activities, like reading, note-taking, speaking and discussing are basic to studying. Make sure you can do these effectively. You have to use time well, and practice to improve your skills.

Effective reading is part of your training. Since it is a learned skill we can change the way we did since in primary school and relearn it. Learn how to read fast—how to read with your eyes rather than your throat, how to ignore words like “of” and “the”, and how to keep what you read.

You take notes in class for yourself, not for anyone else, so make your notes easy to read, economical and pleasing to the eye. Vary the arrangement on the page to suit the material (diagrams, columns, underlining), use colored pens for different topics to catch the eye and make things stand out. Work out your own shorthand speedwriting.

Group discussions give you a chance to train your ability to express yourself. Don’t be the non-speaking member of the group. Take an active part in the discussion. In the future you are almost certainly going to have to be good at speaking, so get into the way of talking about your subject now. This is actually more fun than sitting being silently uncomfortable. Nobody will think what you say is foolish. Everyone will be thankful not to face embarrassed silence.

Half of US mothers are not getting enough sleep and they believe getting more rest would make them better parents, according to a US study. A nationwide survey of 500 mothers by research firm Braun Research found 54 percent of respondents said they were not getting enough sleep. Full-time working mothers were suffering the most with 59 percent saying they were not getting enough sleep. Half of the working mothers said they were getting six or fewer hours sleep a night. Stay-at-home moms felt better with 48 percent saying they were sleep deficient. But the survey found although sleep problems were among mothers, four out of five had not spoken to their doctor about it and 82 percent never considered using sleeping pills.

Kenya wants to organize a major international conference to discuss how to fight piracy(海盜) off the coast of Somalia. The conference may also deal with ways to rescue Somalia from seventeen years of civil war.More than forty percent of its people depend on food aid.

Kenyan Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula says the world cannot end piracy and civil war without dealing with Somalia’s political problems.

Somali pirates operate in the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden. The Gulf of Aden connects the Red Sea to the Mediterranean by way of the Suez Canal. The pirates have fast boats, modern weapons and equipment like satellite phones and global positioning systems.

Pirates hijacked the Sirius Star off the coast of Kenya and moved it to waters off Somalia.

The tanker Sirius Star, at three hundred thirty meters long, is the biggest ship ever known to have been captured by pirates. It also happened farther south than most attacks, and farther out at sea ---- more than eight hundred kilometers from land.

The ship was headed for the United States with two million carrels of oil, worth an estimated one hundred million dollars.A Saudi Arabian company owns the tanker. The pirates have  reportedly demanded twenty-five million dollars in negotiations to release the ship and its crew of twenty-five.

Somali pirates generally do not steal goods or kill hostages. They are believed to be holding seventeen ships with about three hundred crew members.Among the ships is a Ukrainian vessel hijacked(劫持)in September with a load of military weapons including tanks.

The increase in piracy is raising the cost of insuring ships. Also, oil from the Middle East and exports from East Asia could take longer to arrive.

Some of the world’s heaviest shipping traffic passes the Somali coast. But major shipping companies have begun to consider new routes. One of the world’s biggest shippers, A.P, Moeller Maersk, says it will avoid the Gulf of Aden.A move away from the Suez Canal could hurt Egypt’s economy.

American and other foreign navy ships are now watching for pirates. This week the Indian Navy destroyed a heavily armed “mother ship” in the Gulf of Aden. But the area to protect covers more than one hundred sixty million square kilometers.

1.According to the passage, which of the following is the key to solving the piracy in Somalia?

A.Providing lots of money.                 B.Ending Civil war.

C.Supplying enough food.                  D.Handling Somalia’s political problems.

2.Somali pirates do the following things except that _______.

A.they demand money                       B.they hold the ships with crew

C.they kill some of the hostages              D.they hijack ships with military weapons

3.What can we infer from the passage?

A.The cost of ship transport is decreasing.

B.The routes of some ships might change.

C.Nothing has been done to fight against the piracy.

D.The Suez Canal is of no importance to Egypt’s economy.

A CAR design team is bringing back memories of a famous scene from a James Bond movie by producing a car that can travel under water.

In the 007 film, The Spy Who Loved- Me (1977), Bond drives below the waves in a vehicle that moments earlier seemed to be an ordinary car.

The scene was shot using special movie magic, but more than 30 years later the Swiss company Rinspeed has come up with a concept (概念) car - the sOuba. It is an open-topped sports car that car drive over land, above the waves and even under water to a depth of 10 meters. It is to be displayed at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

Rinspeed boss Frank Rinderknecht, 52, is a James Bond fan."For three decades I have tried to imagine how it might be possible to build a car that can fly under water," he said."Now we have made this dream come true.”

To make sQuba, Rinspeed took a sports car and replaced the ordinary engine with several electric motors.Three motors arc located in the back of the car.One provides power on land while the other two drive the screws (螺旋槳) underwater.

For safety reasons sQuba was built as an open car so that people can get out quickly in an emergency. With an enclosed cabin (封閉車廂) opening the door might be impossible because of water pressure.

sQuba is easy to drive. When you go into the water it floats, until you open the door to let the water in.Soon the sQuba starts on its way to the underwater world. To breathe, you'll have to wear a scuba mask(潛水面罩) connected to the car's compressed-air (壓縮空氣) tank. The vehicle can stay under water until you run out of air, which is about two hours.

Sadly, those people excited by the sQuba may never be able to drive one as there are no plans to put it into production.

"It's a tradition that we produce a concept car for the Geneva Motor Show."said Rinderknecht."We don't plan to build it," he admitted.

1.The sQuba can drive both on land and under water because ____.

A.it was designed with an enclosed cabin

B.it was built as an open-topped sports car

C.three screws are positioned in the back of the car

D.electric motors are equipped instead of an ordinary engine

2.The sQuba was produced to____.

     A.help shoot a scene in a 007 film

     B.update some water sports cars

C.be tested before going into production

D.be put in a motor exhibition

3.It can be inferred from the passage that ____.

A.the sQuba probably can't run at the bottom of deep sea

B.the sQuba will probably sell well in the market of Geneva

C.the shape of sQuba is totally different from an ordinary car

D.the driver in the sQuba can't breathe freely when floating on water

4.The writer of the passage would agree that ____.

A.Rinspeed will make a lot of money by selling the sQuba

B.Rinderknecht plays a role in the invention of the sQuba

C.007 film directors will be interested in using the sQuba

D.it's a waste of money to design an concept car for a motor show
