Some expressions have made a jump from sports events to everyday life. One such expression is fall guy. A fall guy is the person who someone decides will be the loser or victim.
The first fall guys were men who wrestled for money. At the end of the 19th century, wrestling was a very popular sport in the United States. Wrestling competitions were held not only in big cities but also at country fairs and traveling shows. However, as the sport became more popular, it became less and less of a sport, as many of the matches were operated. The wrestlers knew—before the match—which one of them would be the winner.
The goal in wrestling is to hold the shoulders of your opponent down against the floor. This is called a fall. Sometimes, one of the wrestlers would be paid before the match to take the fall. He would agree —the fall guy.
Today, a fall guy is anyone who is tricked into taking the blame for the crime or wrongdoing of someone else. There are fall guys in many situations—people who publicly take the blame when something goes wrong.
A fall guy takes the rap for something wrong or illegal. He accepts responsibility and punishment for what someone else did. He may have something to do with the situation, but is not the person who should be blamed.
The word rap has meant blame for several hundred years. The expression to take the rap was first used about one hundred years ago. Another similar expression is bum rap. A person receives a bum rap if he is found guilty of a crime but is really innocent.
76. What is the main idea of the passage ?(no more than 15 words)
77. Please complete the sentence according to the meaning of the original one of the passage.(within 6 words)
As wrestling gained in popularity, it became less like a sport because the winners of the matches were ________________.
78. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 3 with proper words. (no more than 8 words)
79. What does it mean if someone receives a bum rap? (no more than 15 words)
80. What does the word “them” (paragraph 2 ) probably refer to? (no more than 3 words)

New rules will let millions of Americans know where more of their food comes from. The law is known as COOL—Country of Origin Labeling.
American Congress first passed the law in 2002. Stores have had to label seafood by country of origin since 2005. But industry pressure delayed other requirements until last week.
Products that must now be labeled include fresh fruits and vegetables, muscle meats and some kinds of nuts. But the rules are complex, and many foods are excluded. For example, organ meats are free to be labeled. So are processed foods, including cooked or smoked food.
The United States has imported more and more food in recent years to save money and expand choices. Country-of-origin labeling has become more common lately but has still been limited in many stores.
Food safety is one reason why some shoppers pay close attention to where foods came from. For example, when a large number of people recently got sick from salmonella(沙門菌病), officials blamed peppers from Mexico. Yet the last big food scare involved spinach (菠菜) grown in California. But labeling is also a way for people to know they are getting what they want. Some want to buy local foods or foods from a particular country.
The country-of-origin labeling law gives stores 30 days to correct any violations that are found. Stores and suppliers that are found to be deliberately violating the law could be fined 1000 dollars per violation. Federal inspectors are not to take action to enforce the law for six months to give time for an education campaign.
Some food safety activists say they are generally pleased with the law. They call it a good step that will give people more useful information.
71. What’s the regulation in the new rules?
A. Stores have to label food by its producing date from now on.
B. The country-of-origin labeling has to be marked on more food.
C. Stores have to label seafood by country of origin.
D. Labeling of food should include more useful information.
72. Why has more and more food been imported to the United States in recent years?
A. Because it is economical and provides people with more choices.
B. Because the United States is short of food supply.
C. Because Americans need more and more food recently.
D. Because foreign food is of higher quality than native food.
73. Consumers are more concerned about where foods came from because ______.
A. they are curious about the country of the food origin
B. they are particular about the tastes of the food
C. they are concerned about food safety and want to get what they want
D. most of the shoppers are food safety activists themselves
74. The new rules of the country-of-origin labeling law will come into effect ______.
A. right now B. in a month C. in three months D. in half a year
75. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?
A. Most Americans prefer imported vegetables to the vegetables grown in local places.
B. The government of America will forbid importing peppers from Mexico.
C. The law was not fully carried out until last week because of food industry’s resistance.
D. Store owners are most likely to be the supporters of the law.

Just 25 years ago, the top three career hopes for young people in Britain were teacher, banker and doctor. Now, they want to be sports star, pop star and actor, according to survey by the Guardian newspaper.
Rachel, a character in the popular TV show Glee, may be said to speak for British teenagers. “Nowadays being nobody is worse than being poor.” He said.
Emma Brockes, a reporter with the Guardian, believes it is “the bad influence of celebrity(名人) culture” that is to blame. “When children want to be doctor, it isn’t because they are really more interested in the functions of human organs; they go where the respect is.” She wrote.
It could explain why there has been such an increase in levels of anxiety and depression. Dr Carlo Stranger, of Tel Aviv University, studied the sense of self for his new book The Fear of Insignificance: Searching for Meaning in the 21st Century. He told the Daily Mail that young people now are “affected by the close connection to the global entertainment network, which has turned ranking and rating people according to wealth and celebrity into an obsession(癡迷).”
“As humans, we naturally measure ourselves to those around us, but now we live in a global village. We are comparing ourselves with the most ‘important’ people in the world and finding ourselves wanting,” he said. Today, even high achievers constantly fear that they are insignificant when they compare themselves to success stories in the media.
The way out? Simply stop measuring your achievement through a fantasy of wealth and celebrity. Dr Stranger said that it is a process called “active self-acceptance through a constant search for self-knowledge through life.”
“The fear of insignificance can only be overcome through strong individual and cultural identity over and above measurable achievement,” he said.
66.Nowadays, young people in Britain want to .
A.choose jobs based on interests B.become famous
C.be teacher, banker and doctor D.earn more money
67.According to Emma Brockes, what causes the increasing level of anxiety?
A.Choices of future careers. B.Access to the global network.
C.Bad influences of celebrities. D. Endless comparison with others.
68.Which of the following is true of Dr Carlo Stranger?
A. He is a newspaper reporter. B.He is the spokesman of teenagers.
C. He tells success stories on TV. D.He is against ranking people with wealth.
69.Dr Carlo Stranger suggests that young people should .

Birthdays often involve surprises. But this year's surprise on the birthday of the great British playwright William Shakespeare is surely one of the most dramatic.
On April 22, one day before his 441st birthday anniversary, experts discovered that one of the most recognizable portraits of William Shakespeare is a fake. This means that we no longer have a good idea of what Shakespeare looked like. "It's very possible that many pictures of Shakespeare might be unreliable because many of them are copies of this one," said an expert from Britain's National Portrait Gallery.
The discovery comes after four months of testing using X-rays, ultraviolet light, microphotography and paint samples. The experts from the gallery say the image —commonly known as the "Flower portrait"— was actually painted in the 1800s, about two centuries after Shakespeare's death. The art experts who work at the gallery say they also used modern chemistry technology to check the paint on the picture. These checks found traces of paint dating from about 1814. Shakespeare died in 1616, and the date that appears on the portrait is 1609.
"We now think the portrait dates back to around 1818 to 1840. This was when there was a renewed interest in Shakespeare's plays," Tarnya Cooper, the gallery's curator (館長), told the Associated President.
The fake picture has often been used as a cover for collections of his plays. It is called the Flower portrait because one of its owners, Desmond Flower, gave it to the Royal Shakespeare Company.
"There have always been questions about the painting," said David Howells, curator for the Royal Shakespeare Company. "Now we know the truth, we can put the image in its proper place in the history of Shakespearean portraiture."
Two other images of Shakespeare, are also being studied as part of the investigation (調(diào)查) and the results will come out later this month.
