Normally, about 10 percent of the hair on your head is resting (not growing). After a few months, the resting hair falls out and new hair begins to grow in its place. The growing time can last from 2 to 6 years. During the growing period, hair will gain about 1 centimeter a month. It is normal to experience hair loss every day. Some people experience too much hair loss from a variety of causes.
Most people erroneously believe that hair loss is caused by things like stress, scalp (頭皮),or wearing hats. With the exception of stress, none of these factors has been proven to be a cause of hair loss. Stress is also not very likely unless you have experienced extreme physical or psychological suffering. This hair loss also doesn’t last long.
The real cause of hair loss lies with hormonal(荷爾蒙的) problems. Hair loss occurs when male or female hormones are out of balance. An imbalance of hormones is usually genetic and cannot be cured. Male and female-pattern baldness is the most common form of hair loss. This is caused by a hormone called DHT, which helps in sexual development. An increase in DHT in a grown-up can lead to hair loss.
There are also other causes of hair loss. Blood-thinners, some kind of medicines, and an excess of vitamin A, have all been shown to increase hair loss in certain people. Infections of the scalp can cause hair loss as well as certain diseases like diabetes.

Too many cars have created a lot of serious problems in our world. Besides congestion(擁塞), accidents and fast fuel consumption(消費(fèi)), cars are responsible for a good part of air pollution in big cities. All the time, they are pumping huge amounts of waste gases into the atmosphere. These gases are very harmful, causing disease and even death. Last winter, car fumes(煙霧) formed heavy smog over Beijing, making the sky gloomy for weeks and deteriorating people's health.
One possible solution is to design and develop clean cars and clean fuels. In Tsinghua University, campus buses are driven by electricity. In Beijing some of the public buses begin to run on natural gas, which does not give off as much carbon dioxide as the petrol. But it may take decades for the new models of clean cars to completely replace the traditional ones.
Another solution is to develop modern public transportation systems and restrict (限制)the use of private cars. If the price of petrol rises constantly and the public vehicles(交通車輛) are efficient and convenient enough, most people will not use private cars. And the total number of cars in big cities will reduce greatly.
On the whole, the elimination (根除)of air pollution needs the co-efforts from the government, the public and the environments. This problem will be solved only with the help of science and technology.
64. What is the main reason for air pollution in big cities?
A cars. B. accidents C. fast fuel consumption D. congestion
65. What is the best title of this passage?
A. Air Pollution
B. Air Pollution and Cars
C. the Cause of the Pollution
D. Ways to Solve the car Problem
66. How many ways are mentioned to solve the pollution caused by cars?
A. One B. Two C. Three D. Four
67. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. In some university, electricity is used in school buses
B. Public transportation should replace all the private cars
C. New models of clean cars will soon replace the traditional cars
D. It is only the government’s efforts that can help solve air pollution caused by cars

Parents should stop blaming themselves because there’s not a lot they can do about it. I mean the teenager (十幾歲的孩子) problem. Whatever you do or however you choose to deal with it, at certain times a wonderful, reasonable and helpful child will turn into a terrible animal.
I’ve seen friends deal with it in all kinds of different ways. One strict mother insisted that her son, right from a child, should stand up whenever anyone entered the room, open doors and shake hands like a gentleman. I saw him last week when I called round. Sprawling himself (懶散地躺) on the sofa in full length, he made no attempt to turn off the loud TV he was watching as I walked in, and his greeting was no more than a quick glance at me. His mother was ashamed. “I don’t know what to do with him these days,” she said. “He’s forgotten all the manners we taught him.” He hasn’t forgotten them. He’s just decided that he’s not going to use them. She confessed (坦白) that she would like to come up behind him and throw him down from the sofa onto the floor.
Another good friend of mine let her two daughters climb all over the furniture, reach across the table, stare at me and say, “I don’t like your dress; it’s ugly.” One of the daughters has recently been driven out of school. The other has left home.
“Where did we go wrong?” Her parents are now very sad. Probably nowhere much. At least, no more than the rest of that unfortunate race, parents.
60. The underlined word “it” in the second paragraph refers to ______
A. the way that parents often blame themselves
B. the opinion that a child has of his parents
C. the change from good to bad that’s seen in a child
D. the advice that parents want their children to follow
61. The boy on the sofa would most probably be described as _______
A. lazy B. rude C. unusual D. quiet
62. From the second example we can infer that the parents of the two daughters ______
A. pay no attention to them B. feel helpless to do much about them
C. have come to hate them D. are too busy to look after them
63. What is the author’s opinion about the sudden change in teenage children?
A. Parents are at fault for the change in their children.
B. Parents should pay still more attention to the change.
C. Parents should work more closely with school teachers.
D. Parents have no choice but to try to accept it.
