I have been blessed with the opportunity in my life. It took the near-death experience of my dad to make me realize that my purpose in life is to1others. My dad suffered from leukemia(白血病) in 1998.2the pain and treatment that he endured inspired me to be a more kind and3person. I realized life is just too4and it was time for me to make some changes — do the things in life that I wanted to do without making5why I couldn’t do them.
My dad6a bone marrow transplant(骨髓移植) operation, and after that he was able to reuse his own “cleaned” marrow, so a donor(捐獻(xiàn)者) was not needed. That was excellent7because donors who are a match are hard to come by. That8me to become a bone marrow donor and hopefully help someone else one day. I also9money for the cancer patients. Yet, I was not satisfied with just that. I had to do more, I10blood every other month and seek opportunities to do other acts of kindness daily. The opportunity, some days, presents itself very11and some days I have to seek it out. Either way, it comes.
I would like to12one of my favorite quotes with you all.
“In an average lifetime, a person13about sixty-five thousand miles. That’s two and half times around the world I wonder14your steps will take you. I wonder how you’11 use the rest of the15you’re given.”
I want to use my miles to create foot prints of love in this world.

Parents’ blessing will play a great part in the growth of their children. My father wrote me a valuable letter before his death, one part of which always1. “I know you will do2great that will set you among the very best one day in the future.”
Since I first read his3at 12, they have lived in my heart.4,I knew that my dad’s believing in me gave me permission to believe in5. “You will do something great.” He didn’t know6that would mean, but whenever I felt7of myself, I remember my father’s words, and8he were here, so I could ask, “Is this what you were9about, Dad?”
Many years have passed, and I believe that my father10have been proud when I11from basic training and became a rescue swimmer. Lately, I’ve come to realize he’d want me to move12to what comes next: to be proud of, and believe in someone else.
Yes, it’s time to all of us to13writing our own letters to our children. They look to us with the same14. “Is this it, Daddy? Am I doing fine?” It’s why every child growing up says, “Watch me!” Our children don’t15because they are not afraid to fail. They are only afraid of failing16 .
Remember to give your children17to succeed. If you don’t have children, then write a letter to someone who18you. They are waiting for you to believe in them. Trust me, love will be19real and their belief in themselves will be greater if you write the words on their hearts: “20! You will do something great.” Not having that blessing from someone they love may be the only thing holding them back.
