Good tool design is important in the prevention of overuse(過度使用)injuries.Well-designed tools and equipment will require less force to operate them and prevent awkward(別扭的)hand positions. They will allow the worker to keep the elbows(肘)next to the body to prevent damage to the shoulder and arm.

Overuse injuries can therefore① be prevented or reduced if the employer provides, and workers use:

●power tools rather than having to use muscle(肌肉)power

●tools with specially designed handles allow the wrist(手腕)to keep straight(see the picture). This means that hands and wrists are kept in the same position as they would be if they were hanging relaxed at a person's side.

Picture:Bend the tool, not the wrist

●tools with handles can be held comfortably by the whole hand. This means having a selection of sizes-remember that tools that provide a comfortable firm hold for a person with a very large hand may be awkward for someone with a very small hand. This is a particularly important consideration for women who may use tools originally designed for men.

●tools that do not press fingers(or flesh)between the handles, and whose handles do not have sharp edges or a small surface area

Students who say they never or hardly use dictionaries often speak English well but usually write poorly, because they make many mistakes. The students who use dictionaries most do not learn especially well either. The ones who look up every new word do not read fast, therefore they do not have time to read much. Those who use small, bilingual(使用兩種語言的)dictionaries have the worst problems.Their dictionaries often give only one or two words as a translation of English. But one English word often has many translations in a foreign language and one foreign word has many translations in English.

The most successful students are those who use large college edition dictionaries with about 100,000 words but who do not use them too often. When they are reading, these students first try to get the general idea and understand new words from the context(上下文).Then they reread and use the dictionary to look up only key words that they still do not understand. They use dictionaries more for writing. If they are not sure how to spell a word, or can't divide it into syllables, they use a dictionary. Also, if they think a noun might have an unusual plural form or a verb might have an unusual past form, they check these in a dictionary.

(1)

The writer tends to think that ________.

[ ]

A.

choose a good dictionary, and you'll succeed in learning English

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項。

Simon and Garfunkel once famously sang “I am a rock, I am an island”.It's a great song, but is simply isn't true! For whatever reason, we all seem afraid to ask for help, even from those closest to us, regardless of whether we need or deserve it.There's something in our society than seems to dictate that we have to do it all by ourselves-either the views that we'll be seen as weak, or just simply pride.

This, however, doesn't seem to be true of successful people. They haven't bought into the fallacy that asking for help is wrong. They know the truth that great things are achieved when people cooperate.

We all have different skills, knowledge and experiences. Each person you know is a whole new set of untapped(未使用的)reference material and expertise. So if you want to get hold of it and use it, all you have to do is ask them.People are rarely unwilling to assist-it's in our nature to be part of communities.

A good example I sometimes use in seminars is to pick a delegate at random and ask him how many people he knows in total. The usual answer is somewhere between 200 and 500.For the sake of this illustration, let's select the lower figure and call it 200.Then I ask the person how many people each of those people knows. On the assumption that they have similar-sized corc; es.they almost certainly know at least 200 people each.On this basis, the people within one degree of separation(1度分割理論:朋友的朋友形成一個小世界)for a person who knows 200 people comes to 40, 000-can you imagine the size of that experience and knowledge pool?

Looking as it this way, giving your friends, family and colleagues the opportunity to help you open your resource bank to thousands of people. That's a whole army of potential volunteers all waiting to be praised!

So, next time you need help, don't suffer in silence.Pick up the phone or mention it to a friend. You'll be pleasantly amazed at what you can achieve together.

閱讀下面的短文,然后按照要求寫一篇150詞左右的英語短文。

According to the American Automobile Association(美國汽車聯(lián)合會), since 1964 all cars sold in the United States have been equipped with seat belts.(They are also called safety belts.)Many studies of automobile accidents have shown that safety belts can save lives. One study showed that 40% of those killed in accidents could have been saved if they had been wearing seat belts.

Unfortunately, belts are worn only by a small percentage of drivers and passengers, about fifteen percent in cities, and only nine percent in small towns. And safety belts cannot protect people who do not wear them.

  In order to find out what kinds of people do wear seat belts, a study was made in several cities of the United States.The following facts were learned about those who use safety belts;

1.They do not smoke while driving.

2.They have had more education than nonusers.

3.They know someone who was injured(but not killed)in an automobile accident.

Advertisements based on these facts have been printed in newspapers and magazines in order to teach people the importance of using seat belts. But these advertisements have not helped much. Some people believe there should be a law requiring drivers and passengers to use safety belts. In Australia, where there is such a law, deaths in auto accidents have decreased twenty-four percent.
