　　Everyone needs friends．We all like to feel close to someone．It is nice to have a friend to talk, laugh and do things with．Surely, there are things when we need to be alone．We don't always want people around．But we would feel lonely if we never had a friend．

     Dick was having dinner with his mother and sisters one evening．
Suddenly his younger sister asked．“Why does it look like that outside?”
    Everyone looked out of the window on the north side of the kitchen．
    They saw the sun in a blue sky．Then．they looked out of the window on the south side of the kitchen．They saw a dark sky with big，grey clouds.
Next．they heard the tornado siren（龍卷風(fēng)報(bào)警器），That meant a
tornado was coming．They all know that during a tornado，the safest 
place  to be is the basement（地下室）．
     Luckily．they had one．They all ran quickly into the basement．
Suddenly．Dick remembered the pet cat Pete. “Mom, we forgot Pete!”
Dick yelled, “I will go upstairs and find him!” But his mother said, “No, Dick! It’s too dangerous．The tornado is coming. You have to stay here.” All at once they heard the very loud noise of a very strong wind. It was so
loud that they could not even hear their own screams. Everyone was very
scared.
     Just a few seconds later, it stopped. The tornado went away and everyone was safe. Dick ran upstairs and found that the house was badly damaged and Pete was gone. He began to cry and went outside. He saw that all the trees
were blown down except one. And at the top of tree, there was Pete, looking at  Dick and waiting for him.

A new TV series in England，Away from it all，has surprised everyone by becoming a huge success with young people across the country．Its success is surprising because the series is about the relaxing lifestyles of people who live in the country．There is none of the action that we usually see on TV today．There are also no stressful moments，busy offices or crowded cities．Away from it all is set in the peaceful English countryside and tells simple stories about people’s kindness．  
The director of the TV series says that its success is a sign of teenagers suffering from stress．They say that watching Away from it all helps teenagers forget about the pressures(壓力)of exams and homework，and the troubles that fill the world today．They also say that it’s a good sign of today’s young people switching to(轉(zhuǎn)到)happier TV series as it shows they would like a happier and healthier world．
