22、There will be a week of training with real opera singers who would teach us about opera and how to sing, as well as making costumes and props(服裝道具). When I arrived on the first day we started learning one of our songs. It would be the opening song of the show. Later that day we could audition for a part in the story.
Over the next few days we started making our props and costume with the special designers. The prop making was fun but was VERY sticky! When everything was made we started to rehearse(排演) with our masks. We were put into two singing groups, Aslant’ s army and the Queen’s army.
There were four teachers with us during the week who helped us to learn about opera. They told us lots of interesting things, including how important your muscles are when you are singing and all about breathing properly. I loved the sound of different voices used in opera.
In the evening, we performed in front of a large crowd outside the forum in Norwich(挪利其廣場)which made me feel a bit nervous—but I got over my nerves and I really enjoyed it. I think everybody did very well, especially the people who had to sing solos(獨(dú)唱).
On the last song of performance(演出), everyone was really strong and did his best and I think everyone had a great time.
The opera boot-camp was a great week for me. It was so much fun and I really hope that Opera Brava comes back again.

21、Many animals recognize their food because they see it. So do humans. When you see an apple or a piece of chocolate you know that these are things you can eat. You can also use other senses when you choose your food.
You may like it because it smells good or because it tastes good. You may dislike some types of food because they do not look, smell or taste very nice. Different animals use different senses to find and choose their food. A few animals depend on only one of their senses, while most animals use more than one sense.
Although there are many different types of food, some animals spend their lives eating only one type. The giant panda eats only one particular type of bamboo. Other animals eat only one type of food even when given the choice. A kind of white butterfly(蝴蝶)will stay on the leaves of a cabbage, even though there are plenty of other vegetables in the garden. However, most animals have a more varied diet(多樣化飲食). The bear eats fruits and fish. The fox eats small animals, birds and fruits. The diet of these animals will be different depending on the season.
Humans have a very varied diet. We often eat food because we like it and not because it is good for us. In countries such as France and Britain, people eat foods with too much sugar. This makes them overweight, which is bad for their health. Eating too much red meat (羊肉,牛肉) and animal products, such as butter, can also be bad for the health. Choosing the right food, therefore, has become an area of study in modern life.
1. We can infer from the text that humans and animals _________.
A. depend on one sense in choosing food B. are not satisfied with their food
C. choose food in similar ways D. eat entirely different food
2. Which of the following eats only one type of food?
A. The white butterfly. B. The small bird.
C. The bear. D. The fox.
3. Certain animals change their choice of food when ___________.
A. the season changes B. the food color changes
C. they move to different places D. they are attracted by different smells
4. We can learn from the last paragraph that __________.
A. food is chosen for a good reason B. French and British food is good
C. some people have few choices of food D. some people care little about healthy diet

20、The workers who brought the girl to the orphanage (孤兒院) knew little about her. The streets where they found her had been her home for many years. Her parents were unknown. They left her long ago. At the orphanage, the girl, like all the children there, was taught to read and write. While she was studying at the orphanage, she learned something else—to be independent (獨(dú)立). At twenty-one, she left the orphanage and began work as a secretary (秘書). And then, in 1975, while she was still working as an ordinary secretary, something special happened. She entered the Miss Hong Kong competition and won it. This was the turning point in her life. Now her name, Mary Cheung, was known to everybody.
Mary entered the competition because she wanted to show that orphanage girls could be something. Winning the competition gave her the chance to start a new life. This led her first into television and then into business as a manager. When she was working as a manager, she had trouble with her reports. “My English just wasn’t good enough,” she says. Luckily, she had a boyfriend (who later became her husband) to help her.
Mary studied management (管理) at Hong Kong Polytechnic and graduated in 1980. She started her own business in 1985. But she did not stop developing herself. She then studied at the University of Hong Kong. Since 1987, she had spent a lot of time on photography (攝影). She has held several exhibitions (展覽 ) of her work in many places—China, New Zealand and Paris. She still found time, however, to work on TV, write for newspapers and bring up her family.
The girl from the street has come a long way, but her journey is not finished yet.
