【題目】閱讀理解。
A
Dear Died,
Today I was at the shopping center and I spent a lot of time reading the Father's Day cards. But as I chose add read, and chose add read again, it seemed that not a single card said what I really wanted to you.
You'll soon be 84 years old, Dad,and you and I will have had 56 Father's Days together. I didn't think that you were too old. But the sad thing happened last week. I watched as you turned at the corner in your car. I didn't realize at once that it was you because the man who was driving looked so elderly.
Fifty years ago this spring, we planted carrots together in a garden in Charles City, Iowa. This week, we'll plant carrots together again, perhaps for the last time but I hope not. I don't understand why planting carrots with you is so important to me. Well, I don't quite know how to tell you this, dad … I don't like carrots.... but I like planting them with you.
I guess what am trying to say, Dad, is what every son and daughter wants to say to their dad today. Praising a father on Father's Day is about more than a dad who brings home, money or shares a dinner. It's more about a dad deeply loving children who know everything and won't listen to anyone. It's about sharing. It's about loving someone more than words can say, and I wish that it would never end.
Lover,
Jenny

【題目】 This past holiday season, I drove with my parents to Boston to visit my cousin. On my way back home, we stopped at a service area for food.
As we stopped there, there was this old lady who was busy cleaning all the tables and chairs as people were leaving, making sure everything was tidy and clean. I just thought of gifting her with five dollars and a chocolate in my pocket. I wrote on a paper napkin(紙巾): Thank you and Merry Christmas.”
I had wanted to leave it there for her but decided to walk up to her and give her.
She asked me, "Is it a gift? Only then will I take it.”
I nodded, “Yes,” and smiled at her.
“Thank you, young man. "she replied, and I left to buy some food from the store inside. On my way back to the car, the woman stopped me.
“I made a lot of cookies and candies on Christmas for people, "she explained. “Would you like to have some?”
A bit taken aback, I replied, “Yes”.
She asked me to wait, and came back carrying a four- inch plate filled with different cookies and chocolates! My first expression was a big smile.
“That's a lot,” I said, a bit surprised.
She smiled and told me that she made eighty to ninety of these plates every year, to gift to friends and others.
I had no words or thoughts in my brain. Finally, I asked if I could hug her. We hugged, wishing each other a happy and healthy holiday season. Then, as we parted, I felt as if I had met a new friend with whom I exchanged the gift of a smile and some happiness. I really enjoyed this trip.

【題目】閱讀下列短文,根據短文內容,從短文后各題所給的A、B、C、D四個選項中,選擇最佳選項。
D
Some people think that they have an answer to the problems of automobile crowding and pollution in large cities. Their answer is the bicycle, or bike.
In a great many cities, hundreds of people ride bicycles to work every day. In New York City, some bike riders have even formed a group called “Bike for a Better City”. They claim that if more people rode bicycles to work there would be fewer automobiles in the downtown section of the city and therefore less dirty air from car engines.
For several years this group has been trying to get city government to help bicycle riders. For example, they want the city to paint special lanes—for bicycles only—on some of the main streets, because when bicycle riders must use the same lanes as cars, there may be accidents. “Bike for a Better City” feels that if there were special lanes, more people would use bikes.
But no bicycle lanes have been painted yet. Not everyone thinks it is a good idea. Taxi drivers don't like the idea—they say it will slow traffic. Some store owners on the main streets don't like the idea—they say that if there is less traffic, they will have less business. And most people live too far from downtown to travel by bike.
The city government has not yet decided what to do. It wants to keep everyone happy. On weekends, Central Park—the largest open place in New York—is closed to cars, and the roads may be used by bicycles only. But “Bike for a Better City” says that this is not enough and keeps fighting to get bicycle lanes downtown. Until that happens, the safest place to bicycle may be in the park.

A.the city government can't help to paint the lanes
B.the main streets are not wide enough
C.the idea isn't accepted by all
D.there's no need for most people to travel by bike
(4)This passage is mainly about ______.
A.city problems and “Bike for a Better City”
