Have you ever wondered what an American high school and its students are really like?
A typical (典型的) American high school has several large buildings and enough s for about 1,500 students. Every student is given a locker. When students first arrive at school, they go straight to their lockers to put away or get their textbooks and to hang up their outdoor clothes. As American textbooks are e, students would rather borrow than buy them. Students must pay back if they lose any of them.
American students have different types of school t. They usually take a yellow school bus or walk to school if they live close enough. Sometimes their parents drive them to school. When they turn 16 years of age, most take a free driving class at school for one term. If students earn passing grades in the class and also pass their state driver's exam, they can begin driving t to school.
Each day, students take six or seven classes. They must take science, maths, English and social studies. They can choose art, homemaking, fashion design and other classes. In some schools students are required to take one or more of the following special classes: health education, physical education or foreign language studies. Students m to different classrooms for each subject. This is because each teacher has their own classroom. There is a short break between classes, to give the students the time to hurry to their next class.
The r school day usually ends early in the afternoon. After school more than half of the students are busy going for after-school activities. These activities include sports―especially football, basketball, baseball and soccer or c, such as yearbook, speech, school newspaper, photograph or student government. Students feel relaxed and pleased when they take part in them.

Vitamins (維他命) help our bodies grow strong and stay healthy. We need vitamins every day and we have to get them from the food we eat. There are two types of vitamins. Some of them live in the fat in our body and stay in our bodies. Others live in the water in our bodies. They don't stay around for long. Which foods do we get our vitamins from? And why do we need them?
Let's start with the fat soluble (可溶的) vitamins. A. D and E.
Vitamin A: There's lots of vitamin A in carrots and yellow fruits like oranges or mangoes but you can also find some in milk and the yellow part of eggs. Vitamin A helps your eyes and skin stay healthy.
Vitamin D: Milk and eggs have also got vitamin D in them and so does fish. When we sit in the sun, our body makes a lot of it naturally. This vitamin is very important for strong bones (骨骼).
Vitamin E: This, on the other hand, helps keep our blood (血液) healthy. You can get vitamin E when you eat nuts and green vegetables.
The water soluble vitamins, B and C are just as important.
Vitamin B: There are many different kinds of vitamin B. Some help give us energy (能量) to move our bodies. Others help make blood. We get the different kinds of vitamin B from different kinds of food. These include potatoes, bananas, bread, rice, chicken, fish, cheese, eggs and green peppers.
Vitamin C: Vitamin C is good for our bones, teeth and even our brains (大腦). We get this vitamin from oranges, peppers, tomatoes and potatoes. Vitamin C also helps us keep other important substances, such as iron in our body.
We should eat a good variety of fruit and vegetables-at least five a day-and lots of other healthy foods like brown bread, milk, eggs and fish. That way, we always get the vitamins we need. And we can also eat some foods that have different vitamins, too. For example, there are three vitamins B in a good bar of dark chocolate!
【1】From what foods can we get both vitamins A and D?
A.Milk and eggs.B.Chicken and fish.
C.Oranges and carrots.D.Tomatoes and bananas.
【2】What does "a good variety of" probably mean?
A.A few.B.A bit of.C.Lots of.D.Many kinds of.
【3】What can we learn from the passage?
A.Vitamins B can stay in our bodies for long.B.All vitamins stay in the water in our bodies.
C.Green vegetables help keep our blood healthy.D.Cheese is good for our bones, teeth and brains.
