Two years ago,I bought my girlfriend Nicole a pair of fur earmuffs (耳套) .She loved the gift and she wore them every day.

Last week,Nicole was on her way home from work, taking the New York City subway. The train stopped at Union Square. As Nicole stepped through the subway door, the earmuffs fell from her head, and dropped on the rails (鐵軌) below. Nicole was upset. "Dot't go down to the rails," somebody shouted to her. Good advice. Union Square is a busy station, with trains running past nearly every minute, and there's electricity running through the rails.

Nicole walked up to a subway worker and explained what had happened. "Sony,I can't help you," the worker said. "Maybe you could use a stick or something to fish it out." Where would she get something like that at the subway station? Disappointed,Nicole walked back to where the earmuffs fell. A homeless man was sitting right near the place. Nicole didn't notice him there earlier. Next to the man was a small box, full of various (各種各樣的) junk he had collected. " Excuse me," Nicole said, "but you don't have a stick by any chance,do you? My earmuffs fell...”

The man looked at his things and pulled out a long wooden stick. He went to where the earmuffs fell and used the stick to reach down to them. It was difficult to do so,and he had to stop when a train was coming, but the man didn't give up. At last,he got the earmuffs onto the end of the stick and brought them back up to Nicole.

Nicole was grateful. She also said she would give the man some money for helping her. But the man said there was no need to do so. When Nicole was taking out her wallet from her bag,the man walked away quickly, along with his box of junk. Then he disappeared around the corner before she could catch up with him.

I think people should do more things online at home. Why pollute the   air  ( by driving your car to the supermarket when you can order your weekly   shopping on the Internet? You can also book holidays as well.                                          Posted hy Billy on June 1 1th 7 :.36 a.m.

I try to use public transportation whenever I can. I take the bus to   college         and walk home. When my mum wants to give me a lift, I always refuse,  as I can get   there quickly by bus. Also, the buses in my town arc electric, I so they are environmentally friendly !

Why not use two   wheels? Any motorcycle will use less fuel (燃料)than a car. You don't get caught in traffic jams either ! But in my opinion, the   best things are bicycles. They don't   produce any pollution and help you to       keep fit at the same time.

I can't get to my university by bus or train. So I found three other   girls               who live nearby and share my car with   them. And now we take it in turns to drive every day. I have cut down the   cost―and most importantly, I am protecting the environment !

Once,a group of boys decided to play a soccer game. Each of them would bring something used in the match. So one would bring the ball, another the whistle, others the goalkeeper gloves, the corner flags.

But while they were picking the teams, there was an argument. They decided that the boy who had brought the most important object would pick the teams. However they couldn't choose which had been the most important object,so they decided to start playing and gradually drop what they had brought,to see which things were truly needed.

The first thing they dropped was the whistle, because the judge could just shout instead. Then the goalkeeper gloves, they managed to save the ball just as well without them. Neither did they really notice when they stopped using the corner flags. Finally they even replaced the football with an old tin (易拉罐) ,and still managed to keep playing.

When they were playing with the tin,a man and his son passed by. Seeing the boys playing like that, the man said to his son, "Look, son. Learn from those kids. Without even a ball they're managing to play football, even though they're never going to be able to improve playing in that way."

The boys heard what he said, and realized that because of their pride, what could have been a great match had turned into a shameful display, which they were hardly enjoying at all. At that moment, they decided to give up their selfish opinions, and to start playing the match again, from the start and with all the necessary objects.

And it really was a great game. No one thought about who was playing better or worse. Rather, they just paid attention to having fun and improving their game.

When doing things together, the important thing is to make sure things turn out for the best, rather than argue about how much each person has contributed.
