Obesity is a fancy word to say someone is heavy. There are a lot of people who are overweight in America and the world as well. An overweight person not only looks heavy and less handsome, but it can also lead to different illnesses.【1】
What causes obesity? 【2】 Junk food, also known as fast food, is the name given to food that can be prepared and served quickly. It is typically inexpensive to buy but unhealthy to eat. Well-known fast food restaurants include McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut and Burger King—all of the above we can easily find in cities in China. The king of fast food, McDonald's, feeds about 45 million people around the world every day.
They are called junk food, because hamburger, pizza and the like contain high calories(卡路里). If you eat a Big Mac,an order of large fries, and a large coke, you will need to walk non-stop for six hours to burn off the calories. 【3】
【4】Popular sugary drinks, of course, include Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola and many new brands that appear on the market every a couple of days. Most people don't realize how easy it is to gain weight from drinking sugary drinks, juice drinks, sports drinks and sweetened tea. Just one bottle of soda can have 250 calories and more than 16 teaspoons of added sugar. As a public strategy to improve foods, the US government in 2014 required restaurants and especially fast food restaurants to write the calories on the menu.【5】 It may be helpful to lose weight.
A.Nobody knows why so many people like junk food.
B.It is viewed as one of the public health problems in the 21th century.
C.Don't be fooled by soft drinks, which are high on sugar.
D.When we talk about it, the first thought comes to mind is: junk food.
E.And the left calories that haven't been burnt will put weight on you.
F.Never forget about what the most important thing is.
G.People are supposed to count the calories first before eating.

【1】根據(jù)前句“An overweight person not only looks heavy and less handsome, but it can also lead to different illnesses.” It is viewed as one of the public health problems in the 21th century.故選B。
【2】根據(jù)后句“Junk food, also known as fast food, is the name given to food that can be prepared and served quickly.” When we talk about it, the first thought comes to mind is: junk food.故選D。
【3】根據(jù)前句“If you eat a Big Mac,an order of large fries, and a large coke, you will need to walk non-stop for six hours to burn off the calories”如果你吃了一個(gè)巨無(wú)霸,一份大薯?xiàng)l和一大杯可樂(lè),你就需要不停地走六個(gè)小時(shí)來(lái)消耗卡路里。 And the left calories that haven't been burnt will put weight on you.故選E。
【4】根據(jù)后面“Most people don't realize how easy it is to gain weight from drinking sugary drinks, juice drinks, sports drinks and sweetened tea.” Don't be fooled by soft drinks, which are high on sugar.故選C。
【5】根據(jù)前句“As a public strategy to improve foods, the US government in 2014 required restaurants and especially fast food restaurants to write the calories on the menu”作為改善食品質(zhì)量的一項(xiàng)公共戰(zhàn)略,美國(guó)政府在2014年要求餐館,特別是快餐店在菜單上寫(xiě)下卡路里的含量。和后句“It may be helpful to lose weight.” People are supposed to count the calories first before eating.

Nowadays, it’s of great importance to reduce, reuse and recycle, especially in the clothing industry. Every year, about 80 billion items of clothing are made around the world. That’s enough to fill over a million football stadium. It takes about 800 litres of water to make one pair of jeans. With the water, you can take a shower for 285 times. No wonder the fashion industry is the second largest water polluter in the world. Actually, 95% of thrown-away clothing can be recycled to make something new.
As a new industry, clothing rental is popular among those who want to protect the environment. But is renting clothes more environmentally-friendly than buying them? In an article for Elle, Elizabeth Cline writes that it’s not as sustainable(可持續(xù)的) as it seems.
Taking shipping, for example, which has to go two ways if an item is rented—receiving and returning. Cline writes, “An item ordered online and then returned can send out 20 kilos of carbon (碳) each way, and increases up to 50 kilos for rush shipping. However, a pair of jeans bought in a store and washed and worn at home can send out 33.4 kilos according to a study done by Levi’s.”
Then there’s the burden(負(fù)擔(dān)) of washing, which happens to every item when it’s returned. For most rental services, this usually means dry-cleaning, a polluting process. The stain removers (去污劑) used for washing can produce harmful waste and air pollution.
Lastly, Cline fears rental services will increase our liking for fast fashion, because it’s so easy to get clothes. There’s something called “share-washing” that makes people think of wasting not a big deal.
Renting clothes is still preferable to buying them and throwing them away after a few years. However, there’s an even better step—wearing what we’ve already had.
It’s important to follow the “3R Rule” in the fashion industry
Reason: The fashion industry is the second largest water polluter in the world.
To reduce 80 billion items of clothing are made every year and the clothing making process is really a polluter | To【1】 A new industry clothing rental | To recycle Only 5% of thrown-away clothing 【2】 |
Different opinions on renting clothes
Some people | Elizabeth Cline
They think it is an environmentally-friendly process. Thanks to it, they can enjoy many kinds of clothes without buying them | She thinks it’s not sustainable: The rental service causes more pollution in both【3】and 【4】compared with buying. Every returned item needs washing, which is a polluting process. The increased interest for fast fashion and the idea of “share-washing” may lead to 【5】
Conclusion: Wearing 【6】clothes might be the best solution. |
