【題目】 I enjoy reading, which helps me improve my English a lot. If you want to do that like me, here are some suggestions for you.

Firstly, it’s important to choose a book which is the right level for you. If you are just starting out with English, don’t try to read a 600-page classic novel!

Secondly, although having a dictionary at hand to look up words is useful, you should try not to translate word by word, or you will soon get bored. Look up the words that you think are important to understand the text or follow the sentence. This will make it more likely that you will remember it in the future,

Finally, perseverance(毅力) is the key. Although at first it may seem that reading has become a chore, you will soon get into the story and you will end up not being able to put the book down! The feeling of finishing a book in a different language is very satisfying. If you finish one, don’t stop there! The more you read, the more vocabularies you will learn and the more you will become familiar with sentence structures and common phrases.

I hope next time you pick up a book, it will be in English.

【題目】 Rubber Fish

My friend and I were sitting on our beach chairs while watching our girls playing in the surf on that summer morning. About 50 yards from us, a man--- maybe in his late 50s—was fishing with big poles(魚竿).

After running for a while, the girls reached him and watched him. He smiled at them. They ran back to us—all except my three-year-old Alice. Instead, she sat down next to the man.

“Alice! Come here! Play with your friends!” I said, very worried that my speeches about not talking to strangers weren’t working. Hearing me, Alice ran over to me. Then she looked me in the eye, “I want to be with the man.” She ran back, sat down next to him again, and started digging.

Every few seconds I watched back to Alice to make sure she was safe. Just a man fishing. A little girl sitting.

In the second, Alice had started talking. Her mouth was moving. She was probably telling the man where we lived and how her father was away on business and how her mother sometimes let her ride bikes with her brother in the driveway alone. He nodded, then laughed.

A few seconds later, she ran back to us, waving something very shiny and slimy. “Look, Mommy! A toy fish!” It was a yellow rubber toy fish, which must have been what he was using for bait(魚餌). And he’d given it to Alice. The three other girls all reached for the fish. Alice looked at me for help, then at the man, then back to me.

“My friend gave me that fish!” She said. Tears were fast falling. Just as I didn’t know how to solve the problem, suddenly, there he was: the man, standing right next to us. He was holding three more rubber fish. He handed them to each of the girls.“ Thank you,” the girls said, with their face shining like the sun. There is evil(罪惡)...but there is also the lesson for mothers to learn that only three-year-old could teach them. The man waved at us and walked back to his poles.

C.the girls played in the surfD.the girls watched the man fishing

【題目】 When your pen is broken, the battery in your toy runs out, or you have some leftover food, what do you do with these things? You will probably throw them all into one bin. But actually, all of these pieces of trash need to be sorted(分類) separately. In recent years, some Chinese cities have been working hard on it.

Shanghai has worked with Alipay to create a“ green account(綠色賬戶)”service for people. Account holders get points by correctly sorting their garbage. Through the Alipay app, they can exchange the points for milk, phone cards and other products. The city is asking all of its people to sort their garbage into four groups: wet, recyclable, harmful and dry.

Wet waste is also known as household waste. “They are things you don’t want but that pigs can eat,” Guangzhou Daily explained. Paper, metal, glass and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste. Harmful waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs(熒光燈泡).Finally, any waste that’s not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the “dry waste” bin.

Many other Chinese cities are also using this method to sort their garbage. For example, Shenzhen has been sorting its garbage into the same four groups since 2012. Students there also receive waste-sorting guidebooks that they must study.

China is improving its waste-sorting efforts. There is still a long way to go. But it’s never too late to learn how to sort your trash properly and protect the environment.

If you don’t sort your garbage, all of it will go to a landfill(垃圾填埋場(chǎng)) and be buried together. These landfills can take up large areas of ground that could have been used for planting trees or crops. The electronic waste you throw away, such as batteries, can pollute the soil and groundwater. Other pieces of garbage, like the metal part of a pen, can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.

1How can we deal with all kinds of home rubbish?

C.We can throw them all into one bin.D.We can pack them all.

D.By creating a “green account” service for people with the help of Alipay.

4Things below are harmful waste Except ________.

A.metalB.batteriesC.bulbsD.medicine

5Which is true about rubbish sorting in China according to this passage?

A.Landfills are a great way of dealing with garbage.

C.Shenzhen has started its garbage sorting system since 2012.

D.People in Shenzhen don’t need to sort garbage.

【題目】 Everybody is afraid of something. That’s what more than 1,700 kids told us when we asked them about fears and scary stuff. We gave kids a list of 14 scary things and asked which one frightened them most.

Here are the top 5 answers from our survey (調(diào)查): Scary movies and TV shows: Scary dreams; Thunderstorms, hurricanes(颶風(fēng)); and other horrible weather War and terrorism (恐怖行動(dòng)); Sounds heard at night.

But not everyone is afraid of the same thing. And what makes one person scared can be of no big deal for someone else. Plenty of kids said their biggest fear wasn’t on our list.

What is fear? Fear is a feeling that everyone has -- it’s programmed into all of us -- and that’s a good thing because fear is there to protect us. Besides, it also makes us stronger. We’re born with a sense of fear so we can react to something that could be dangerous. The baby cries, and their mom comes over to comfort him or her, helping the baby feel safe and OK again.

The best way to get over a fear is to get more information about it. As kids get older, they understand more and start seeing the difference between what is real and unreal. So when William’s imagination leads him to think of witches, he can tell himself, “Wait a minute. They’re only pretending things. I don’t need to worry about them.”

The same goes for the dark. A kid’s imagination can start playing tricks when the lights go out. What’s under my bed? Is that a thief I hear? With the help of a parent, kids can get more comfortable in the dark. Using a nightlight or shining a flashlight under the bed to see that there’s nothing there can help kids fight that fear.

1From the survey, what do kids fear most?

2Why does the writer think fear is a good thing?

【題目】 Sixteen years ago, I was in a taxi. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes(剎車) and missed the other car’s back end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, who almost caused a big accident started yelling (喊叫) bad words at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved (揮手) at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly. So, I said, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined (損壞) your car and sent us to the hospital!” And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call “ The Law of the Garbage(垃圾) Truck”.

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage becomes more and more, they need a place to dump (傾倒) it. When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You’ll be happy with what you did.

I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets? It was that day I said, “I’m not going to do anymore.”

Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So, love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don’t.

A.Warm.B.Wise.C.Honest.

3What does the word “garbage” mean in the passage?

4What can we infer from Paragraph 4?

A.The writer decided to forget what happened that day.

B.The writer was always kind to everyone in the past.

C.The writer wanted to change himself after that day.

5When we meet Garbage Trucks one day, what do we do?
