【題目】(題文)________ breaks the law should be punished

A. No matter who B. Whoever

C. Who D. All

no matter who可譯為“無論誰”,但不能引導(dǎo)名詞從句,只能引導(dǎo)狀語從句,故去掉A。Whoever“無論誰,任何人”,B符合題意。如果選all的話,應(yīng)該是定語從句All that break the law should be punished,所以D也是錯(cuò)誤的。故選B。

【題目】Directions: Read the following passage and choose the most suitable statement from A-F for each blank. There are two extra statements, which you do not need.

Life would be a lot sweeter if you were a memory athlete. Most of us however, are not wired that way. But don’t be discouraged: thanks to neuroplasticity, anyone can transcend their fallible memory. 1

There are a few relatively simple things a person can do to help improve their memory function. First up, the basics: the foundation of good memory is good health. 2

Then there are more deliberate approaches like practicing mnemonics. A mnemonic device is a trick designed to make remembering things easier. So instead of remembering to buy eggs, rice, apples and dog food, it might be easier to think of READ, which stands for rice, eggs, apples, and dog food. This is the acrostic method.

3 Let’s use the same shopping list as an example. Instead of focusing on the word ‘rice,’ this technique works by focusing on the image of rice thrown on the ground in a yard. For eggs, picture a hen pecking at the rice, followed by a nearby tree of apple blossoms, the petals falling around the hen, falling on a sleeping dog. Once the interconnected scene is created it’s a simple visual to ease your way around the halls of the grocery store with no list needed. This technique, where you base a memory around visual images, is more formally called ‘method of loci’.

A recent study published in Neuron has unearthed some interesting insights about the brains of competitive memorizers. The researchers invited 23 of the world’s top 50 memory athletes to have their brains scanned in rest states, and while performing memory tests, and matched each champion to a control participant. Anatomically, the scans showed there was no difference in brain structure or region size between the groups. 4 And what’s more, after they gave the ‘naive’ control group training in the method of loci, their neural connectivity began to look more like that of the pros.

A. What you're born with isn't what you're stuck with.

B. Where the difference was observed was in connectivity.

C. Another more complicated mnemonic technique is called a mind palace.

D. Training in method of loci can physically change the way a person remembers.

E. Eating and sleeping right will lead to optimal brain function, the flow-on effect of which is a better memory.

F. The improved memory observed after mnemonic training persists for as long as 4 months after training concludes.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for invite me to the summer English course in your school. As for my choice between the two courses, I prefer the four-week course because of this will allow me more time to do some traveling but make a few new friends. Of all the subject I’m learning at school, I like English best. I had been learning English for eleven years but my spoken English remains to be poorly. So I really hope to take this chance to improve them. If possible, I’d like to stay with a family for a couple of days so that I can learn some customs in England, that I’m particularly interesting in. I believe I will have good time this summer.

Yours truly,

Li Hua

【題目】 The siesta competition took place in a supermarket, with plenty of shoppers, screaming babies, talking voices, and footsteps to take the competitors’ attention away from their after lunch sleeps.

Five bright blue sofas were laid out, and five competitors at a time were allowed to take a 20-minute sleep. A doctor measured their pulse to time how long they actually spent on asleep. Competitors earned extra points for snoring (打鼾),sleeping in strange positions, or wearing silly pajamas (睡衣).The winners of each round advance to the next stage in the competition.

It’s amazing that any of those people would fall asleep in the middle of such a busy place, while on couches that they are not used to. Yet, many of them did. They hugged pillows or soft toy bears. They covered their eyes with sleep masks, too. Whatever it took to help them fall asleep fast and stay asleep.

The siesta is a tradition in Spain that many feel is becoming forgotten. It used to be that people would take a brief nap after lunch every day. This would energize them, and keep them going for the rest of the day. Not to mention the health benefits of a good nap. But, that’s all changing. People are too busy making money or watching gossip shows on TV after lunch to care about taking a nap.

The National Association of Friends of the Siesta wants to bring Spain back to their traditional roots. They are doing this by having the siesta competition. They set up the competition to reward the best sleepers with money. Actually, they were paid to sleep.

There are really health benefits to a midday nap. We could all learn from this tradition. It’s a much better way to get more energy than drinking a cup of coffee. It is also believed that a nap, and in fact a good night’s sleep, can help reduce heart disease. The more rested we are, the less stress we feel with day-to-day life.
