【題目】Expressing gratitude regularly is a wonderful habit to your children. In fact, studies have shown that people who feel gratitude on a daily basis are happier in general. Today we’ll discuss ideas to help your children express their gratitude.

Make a gratitude tree. Start with a large piece of craft paper and draw a tree trunk. Then ask the kids to paint or color it in brown. Each day ask your kids to think of something they're thankful for. 1 And they’ll have a gratitude tree full of leaves one day.

Express your thankfulness to the ones you love. 2 Print the photos in a 5'×7'size and ask the kids to write a short note on the back explaining why they're grateful to that person. Family members, especially those who don't live nearby, will cherish the present.

3 Pick a regular time, maybe one Saturday a month, and do some voluntary jobs as a family.4 One child may want to spend a day helping to clean up their favorite park while another might want to read books to nursing home residents.

Go grocery shopping for a family in need. Many stores now offer pre-made bags to donate right at the checkout line. While this is convenient, the larger the role they play in the act of giving, the bigger the effect it will have on your kids.5

Taking time as a family to practice gratitude doesn't have to be difficult or time-consuming and the benefits your children will get are long-lasting.

A. It will make the experience much more powerful.

B. Let kids take pictures of themselves with their loved ones.

C. Keep gratitude journals.

D. Volunteer together.

E. If you can find a charity where you deliver the groceries , that's even better.

F. Write it on a green leaf and tape it to the tree trunk.

G. Let family members take turns to pick an activity that means something to them.

【題目】On 20th July 1969, millions of people saw Neil Armstrong take his first steps in space on television. Armstrong got out of the spacecraft Apollo 11, touched the ground of the moon and said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

A conspiracy(陰謀)theory has existed since the night of his lunar handing. Armstrong’s achievements were considered amazing, but people wondered if it really happened. Many people believe that the scene on the moon wasn’t real. Rumours spread throughout coffee shops, street comers, and newspapers, but it soon died down.

But theories resurfaced in 2001 Suspicion began when an American television network aired a program called Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land on the Moon? The show argued that NASA did not have the money for such a voyage, and that the whole scene was probably filmed in a movie studio. Many critics say that there were no stars in the background during the lunar landing, so it must have been a fake. They also point out that the American flag that was posted was waving. How could that be if there is no wind on the moon?

NASA(National Aeronautics and Space Administration)has denied these rumours many times. They explained that now photographers can capture the brightness of the astronauts with the dimness of the stars behind them. Also, they said that the flag was waving because the astronauts were pulling it back and forth trying to get it deeper into the rock. NASA also points out that the television program fails to mention that Armstrong and his team brought back 800 pounds of rock from the moon.

Nell Armstrong is seen as a national icon in the US and his lunar landing is one of the most historic events in the country’s history. But either way, this conspiracy theory still exists today.

1What didn’t the TV program Did We Land on the Moon? mention?

A. money B. stars

C. the flag D. rocks

2How did NASA react to the rumor?

A. It showed great anger B. It had to accept the rumor

C. It turned a deaf ear to the rumor D. It gave explanations against the rumor

3According to NASA, the American flag was waving because of______.

A. the wind B. the astronauts’ pulling

C. the gravity D. the camera’s moving

【題目】We all know the hard work that filmmakers and actors put in to provide us with entertainment, but it seems that even regular moviegoers like us have a big impact on how a movie turns out too. For decades now, film studios have used so-called test screenings (試映) to get feedback from members of the public before a movie comes out.

While test audience members are usually asked to fill in a questionnaire after a screening, telling the film studio what they liked and didn’t like, media giant Disney has come up with a more high-tech solution.

According to a paper published this summer by the company’s researchers, Disney is measuring test audiences’ reactions (反應(yīng)) by using special cameras placed inside cinemas. Pairing the cameras with custom (定制的) software, the company can track what each audience member is feeling at any point in the movie, from anger to joy. This works by mapping 68 different points on each audience member’s face. The cameras can see in the dark, and the software can figure out a person’s mood based on the slightest of facial expressions.

It is hoped that this new method will allow more detailed feedback from test audiences. Rather than relying on audience members to recall their feelings after the movie’s over, it can accurately read their reactions in real-time.

Test screenings are highly valued in the movie industry, and several well- known movies have been greatly altered following feedback. Viewers of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) would have left the cinema feeling a whole lot differently if it weren’t for its test audience’s feedback.

“In one cut of the film that was tested, E.T. died instead of going home in his spaceship. You won’t be surprised to hear that the test audience in question didn’t warm to this ending at all,” wrote media website Den of Geek.

But for those of us who are concerned about privacy, the cameras won’t be installed in public cinemas. After all, unless you’re part of a test audience, being in front of the cam era is best left to the movie stars.

1What is the main advantage that the cameras have over questionnaires?

A. They protect the audience’s privacy better.

B. They allow the audience to recall their feelings more easily.

C. They are able to record the audience’s mood accurately on the spot.

D. They can help audience members adjust their mood with custom software.

2With the example of E.T. the extra-Terrestrial (1982), the author intends to .

A. show the significance of test screenings

B. emphasize the importance of altering a movie

C. show what kind of endings are better received by viewers

D. explain what kind of feedback could be accepted in test screenings

3What does the underlined word “alter” mean?

A. prefer B. change

C. predict D. adopt

4What is the author’s attitude towards the cameras Disney researchers are using?

A. Positive B. Indifferent

C. Negative D. Neutral

【題目】Octopuses (章魚(yú)) are sea animals famous for their rounded bodies, bulging eyes, and eight long arms. They live in all the world’s oceans but there are especially more octopuses in warm, tropical (熱帶的) waters. Octopuses, like their cousin, the squid (烏賊), are often considered “monsters of the deep”, though some species, or types, occupy relatively shallow waters.

Most octopuses stay along the ocean’s floor, although some species are pelagic, which means they live near the water’s surface. Other octopus species live in deep, dark waters, rising from below at dawn and dusk to search for food. Crabs and shrimps rank among their favorite foods, though some can attack larger prey (獵物), like sharks. Octopuses typically drop down on their prey from above and, using powerful suctions that line their arms, pull the animals into their mouths. The octopus performs its famous backward swim by blowing up water through a muscular tube on the body called a siphon. Octopuses also crawl () along the ocean’s floor, putting their arms into small openings to search for food Seals, whales, and large fish prey on octopuses.

If threatened, octopuses shoot an inky liquid that darkens the water, confusing the other animals. The octopus can also change to gray, brown, pink, blue, or green to mix with its surroundings. Octopuses may also change color as a way to communicate with other octopuses. Octopuses are solitary creatures that live alone in dens (巢穴) built from rocks, which the octopus moves into place using its powerful arms. Octopuses sometimes even fashion a rock “door” for their dens that pull closed when the octopus is safely inside.

1】【1In which place can we find more Octopuses?

A. The ocean near Hainan. B. The river near Canada.

C. The Arctic Ocean. D. The South Pole.

2】【2What is a way for Octopuses to communicate with each other?

A. Using special signals. B. Making special sounds.

C. Living together in a group. D. Changing their own colors.

3】【3What do we know about Octopuses?

A. They just stay in deep ocean.

B. They eat food by using their teeth.

C. They don’t like hunting large animals.

D. They shoot an inky liquid to avoid dangers.

The time we have is usual limited. However, even an hour is of much valuable. We should make full use of your time to do useful things. As students, we mustn’t study hard so as to serve for our society and our nation in the future. But it is pity that there are a lot of people who didn’t know the importance of time. They spend their valuable time smoke and drinking. They don’t realize that wasting time is the same as wasting a part of their life. Remember, don’t put off which you can do today until tomorrow.
