Hi, Jack! It's good to hear that you are finally coming to see China for yourselves.
I suggest you should definite come to my hometown where you can take a cruise downstream the Yangtze River and pay a visit the world-famous Three Gorges
During this relaxing voyage, you will be able to see the breathtaken sights of narrow cliff walls, hear legends about the Ghost City and the mysterious hanged coffins high above the gorges and explore the biggest power station on this planet—the Three Gorges Dam on foot. The natural sceneries of the Three Gorges will be at its best in autumn where the towering mountains are covered by yellow and red leaves, which also mean autumn is the peak season. So if you intend to visit the Three Gorges in November, be sure to plan this trip as early as possible.
If you want, I can help you book the cruise. Looking forward to see you soon. If there's anything I can do it for you, please let me know.
【1】yourselves→ yourself
【2】definite →definitely
【3】visit后加to
【4】breathtaken →breathtaking
【5】hanged →hanging
【6】sceneries→ scenery
【7】where →when/while/as
【8】mean→ means
【9】see →seeing
【10】do it for you去掉it.
【1】yourselves→ yourself.
【2】definite →definitely.
【3】visit后加to. pay a visit to“去……參觀”to后加地點(diǎn),故visit后加to.
【4】breathtaken →breathtaking.
【5】hanged →hanging.
【6】sceneries→ scenery. scenery“風(fēng)景”是不可數(shù)名詞,natural scenery of the Three Gorges指三峽景色,故sceneries→ scenery.
【7】where →when/while/as. 此處指時間,故where →when/while/as.
【8】mean→ means.
【9】see →seeing. Looking forward to中的to是介詞后加動詞的-ing形式,故see →seeing.
【10】do it for you去掉it. 先行詞是anything在定語從句中做賓語,避免重復(fù)不能再出現(xiàn)it,故do it for you去掉it.

There is nowadays in schools a great movement that places major emphasis on higher order skills, these being those skills that encourage the ability to reason. This group of skills involves recalling information, basic concept formation, critical thinking, and creative idea formation. Formerly viewed as the tools of mathematics, these skills are now recognized as necessary to abilities across the curriculum.
Higher order thinking skills are now recognized as important for those who will enter the twenty-first century work force. Preparing young learners for their future requires that teachers employ a great deal of inventiveness and creativity in designing lessons that meet the dual challenge of providing the basics as in reading, language arts, and mathematics, and developing the ability to reason.
This unit uses detective fiction to address both of these challenges, and the activities that lie here are designed to draw the learner along a path that moves him from the simple skills, such as recalling information, to the more difficult area of creative thinking. Activities may be modified, simplified, lengthened, or deleted to meet the needs of the intellectual diversity found in most classrooms.
For this unit I have chosen three separate series of children’s detective fiction. The easiest to read are the Private Eyes club mysteries, written and illustrated by Crosby Bonsall. This series centers on the activities of four neighborhood boys who along with their cat Mildred keep the area they live in free of crime. Each title is centered on one issue and the list of titles is expanding. The reading levels range from about 1.6 to 2.0 and the print is large and well organized on the page. Snitch, Wizard, Skinny, and Tubby are funny and engaging, and are represented in lively color illustrations. The only issue that could be a problem is that the private eyes are all boys. However, girls are well represented among the peripheral (次要的) peer group.
【1】What can we know from the above passage?
A. Children have different abilities.
B. Reading for information needs more skills.
C. Reasoning is higher than reading and writing in school.
D. Mathematics is the most difficult in school.
【2】Which of the following is NOT mentioned in this passage?
A. Basic reading skills.
B. Ways of thinking.
C. Who wrote the detective fiction.
D. How much to pay for the course.
【3】What is the chosen series of fiction mainly about?
A. How some brave boys find their cats.
B. How some brave children help find the lost cat.
C. How people help the boys solve the crime.
D. How some brave boys fight against crime.
【4】What will mostly likely be presented after this passage?
A. The Private Eyes club mysteries.
B. Other ways to interest the readers.
C. How girls can keep on reading the stories.
D. Where to buy these interesting stories.

It is generally believed that money can’t buy happiness. However, that may not be always true. According to a recent article, in the last few years, new research has given us a far deeper understanding of the relationship between what we earn and how we feel. Broadly speaking, people with higher incomes are happier than those who struggle to get by. But it also shows you need to spend wisely if you expect those bank notes to put a smile on your face. 【1】
1. Buy experiences, not material goods.
In a recently published study, Professor Ryan at San Francisco State University in the US, found that when people don’t have much money to spare, they tend to stick to material goods. 【2】 But they actually provide both more happiness and more lasting value.
2. 【3】
No matter how much money you spend on something and how special that product is, you will get used to having it over time and lose interest in it. With the same money you spend on one big object, you can buy many little things. Buying small things means you can get frequent small pleasures.
3. Be sure to buy time.
【4】 For example, that big house in the suburbs may seem like a good idea, but a 2014 study by researchers from University of Zurich in Switzerland found that people with longer time on the way reported lower life satisfaction, all other things being equal.
4. Try giving it away.
Elizabeth Dunn, professor at the University of British Columbia in Canada, found that in nations as diverse as Canada, South Africa and Uganda, giving away money consistently made people happier. 【5】 .
A. Be sure to buy what you like.
B. Here are some ways to better spend your money.
C. Buy lots of little things, rather than one big thing.
D. There are a lot of reasons someone might buy something.
E. People think experiences only provide temporary happiness.
F. This was even true when people giving away were relatively poor.
G. Consider how the things you buy will affect how you spend your time.

Every day our life is full of images, videos, music and news. In this age of visual and aural hyperstimulation(視聽的高度刺激),the medium of radio is making a marked comeback.
“We're at the dawn of a golden age of audio," said US-based podcaster Alex Blumberg in an article in The Sydney Morning Herald. In the last month alone, 15 percent of US adults listened to a radio podcast. These data, released by Edison Research, reveal the successful evolution of traditional radio broadcasts to the present day's digital podcast format(播客形式). The term "podcast," was coined in 2004, but the trend only started gaining mainstream popularity in recent years. Since the leap in consumer demand for smart phones and tablets, podcast subscription rates have only accelerated.
You can tune in during those extra minutes of the day when you're walking to the shops, waiting in a queue or riding the subway. Similar to television shows, podcasts are generally free to download on computer or iPod and most offer new content every week.
Donna Jackson, 22, Sydney University media graduate, listens to podcasts two or three times a week, via-iTunes.¨ I listen while I'm hanging out in the house doing something else.
It makes completing a boring task a lot more enjoyable... And it's an easy way of keeping in touch with what's going on in the rest of the world," she said. “I mainly listen to BBC podcasts, but recently I've also been tuning into This American Life and Serial.”
Unlike television and music, the audio format has the ability to create a deep impression on readers. Blumberg says this comes down to the podcast's ability "to create emotional connection." Sydney University undergraduate Hazel Proust, major in social work and arts, agrees. "When you're tuned in, it feels as if the podcaster is talking directly to you. It's comforting," said Proust.
It seems the age-old tradition of verbal(口頭的)storytelling is very much alive and well.
【1】According to the passage, which of the following is Not a suitable time to listen to procasts ?
A. Attending a lecture. B. Riding the subway.
C. Walking to the shop. D. Waiting for a bus.
【2】According to the passage, one difference between television and audio format is that____。
A. only audio format has the ability to create emotional connection to download
B. only audio format helps people keep in touch with the world's change
C. only television provides new content every week
D. only television shows can be free
【3】 What does the underlined word "coined" in paragraph 2 mean?
A. written. B. thought. C. invented. D. found.
【4】It can be inferred from passage that____.
A. people like to listen to podcasts when they work
B. podcasts are more and more popular with people
C. the voice of the podcaster attracts many listeners
D. people keep in touch with each other by listening to podcasts
