Little snow had fallen this winter. For Reuven the frier(皮衣制作工) it was a bad year, and after long hesitation he decided to sell Zlateh the old goat. The town butcher had offered eight silver coins for the goat. Reuven told his oldest boy, Aaron, to take the goat to town. Aaron understood what it meant, but he had to obey his father. His sisters cried loudly.

Aaron took along two slices of bread to eat on the road. He needed to deliver the goat by evening and return the next day with the money. While the family said goodbye, Zlatch stood as patiently as ever. Zlateh trusted human beings.

The sun was shining when Aaron left. Suddenly the weather changed, and after a while it began to snow. Soon their path was completely covered and Aaron got lost. Beneath the snow Aaron’s boots touched the softness of a plowed field. He realized that he was no longer on the road. Zlateh bleated (哀鳴) as if asking to be taken home. Aaron looked around hoping to find a farmer driving a sleigh(雪橇) along the way. But he could see nothing.

Aaron knew that if they did not find shelter, they would freeze to death. Suddenly he made out the shape of a hill. When he came near it, he realized that it was a large haystack (大干草堆) covered by snow. Aaron knew that they were saved. When he reached the hay, he dug a nest for himself and the goat. It was always warm in the hay. And hay was food for Zlateh.

Zlateh, sat down and seemed to have regained her confidence in man. Aaron ate his bread, but after the difficult journey he was still hungry. He looked at Zlateh and realized that he would not be starved to death. Goat’s milk was sweet. Zlateh ate frequently and her body gave forth an animal warmth, and Aaron hugged her tightly. The snow fell for 3 days and the wind

quieted down.

Paragraph 2:

The news that Aaron and Zlateh were coming up the road was a great joy in the family.

On the morning of the fourth day, Aaron heard the ringing of sleigh bells. He got out of the haystack, and found that it was not far from the road. Aaron shouted loudly to the peasant who drove the sleigh for help. Finally, they were saved. Aaron had made up his mind in the haystack that he would never part with Zlateh. Therefore, the peasant pointed out the way to the village. Aaron made his way home together with Zlateh, his loyal friend.

The news that Aaron and Zlateh were coming up the road was a great joy in the family. The whole family, including Aaron’s father, rushed out to meet them in great excitement. Aaron told them in tears how he had found the haystack and how Zlateh had fed him with her milk in the past few days. Aaron’s sisters kissed and hugged Zlateh and Aaron’s father gave the goat a special treat of chopped carrots. Nobody ever again thought of selling Zlateh, who had been an import family member to them.

On the morning of the fourth day, Aaron heard the ringing of sleigh bells. 所以應(yīng)該寫Aaron從干草堆里出來后發(fā)生的事情,由首句的“Aaron heard the ringing if sleigh bells”,可知,要描述的內(nèi)容應(yīng)該是Aaron和羊如何獲得雪橇主人的救助,比如大聲呼喊;同時(shí),由于前文提供的線索“Goat's milk was sweet. Zlateh ate frequently and her body gave forth an animal warmth, and Aaron hugged her tightly.( 羊奶是甜的。Zlateh頻繁地吃干草,她的身體發(fā)出動(dòng)物般的溫暖,Aaron緊緊地?fù)肀е?/span>)可知,本段還應(yīng)該描寫Aaron在與羊建立了深刻感情之后的不忍分離等;第二段開頭是The news that Aaron and Zlateh were coming up the road was a great joy in the family.

Something strange was happening inside LeeAnne’s home. During the summer of 201414-year-old J.D. had stomach severe pains, but his CT scan found nothing wrong. LeeAnne and her husband lost hair and suffered dizziness and headaches. LeeAnne even lost her eyelashes.

In January 2015, the city of Flint sent out a notice that the water supply, switched from the Detroit water system to the Flint River to cut cost, contained high levels of trihalomethanes The notice warned that people with poor immune (免疫的) systems might be at increased risk for liver, kidney, and nervous system problems but emphasized that the water was otherwise safe to drink.

Alarmed, LeeAnne researched the water supply and searched the Internet. Then she distributed a fact sheet to city officials, listing the side effects of exposure to trihalomethanes. Then she urged her neighbors to attend city council meetings, where they shared their health problems. Still, officials insisted the water was safe to drink. So LeeAnne demanded that the city test her water.

The results were disturbing. The trihalomethanes were the least of her problems. The lead levels in her water were nearly seven times the legal amount. But the city maintained her plumbing (管道) was the cause.

LeeAnne immediately had her children tested for lead. All the kids showed lead exposure. She read Flint’s water quality reports and discovered the city wasn’t applying the proper corrosion (腐蝕) control standards to its pipes; the standards prevent the metal in pipes from leaching into the water.

In March, a follow-up test of LeeAnne’s water showed lead levels nearly 27 times higher than the EPA’s threshold. LeeAnne’s pipes could not be responsible for the high lead levels, since they were plastic.

In September, Virginia Tech lab released a report that concluded the Flint River water was 19 times more corrosive than the Detroit water.

The governor eventually admitted the water was unsafe. He ordered that Flint’s water supply be switched back to Detroit’s. In Washington, President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency in Flint and ordered federal aid to help the city recover.

A.unconcernedB.cautious

C.doubtfulD.objective

4What does the story mainly tell us?

The driver, Zhang Sai, hovered outside an apartment building in Wuhan, the central Chinese city at the heart of the coronavirus outbreak. He had been ordered not to take food to customers’ doors in order to minimize the risk of infection. But the woman on the phone was pleading, he recalled. The food was for her mother, who couldn’t go down to meet him. Mr. Zhang relented. He would drop off the order and sprint away. As he placed the bag on the floor, Mr. Zhang said, the door opened. Startled, he rushed away. Without thinking, he jabbed the elevator button with his finger, touching a surface that could transmit the virus. That was how Mr. Zhang, 32, found himself speeding back to his delivery station with one finger held aloft, careful not to touch the rest of his hand.

For many in China, delivery drivers like Mr. Zhang are the only connection to the outside world. Once a common but invisible presence on the streets of nearly every Chinese city, the drivers are now being honored as heroes. What exhausting and dangerous work! Mr. Zhang, who works for Hema, a supermarket chain owned by the tech giant Alibaba, crisscrosses (穿梭) the city armed only with the face masks and hand sanitizer that his company supplies each morning.

The epidemic has brought some unexpected bright spots. Before, Mr. Zhang said, he sometimes ran red lights during rush hour in order to meet his delivery goals for the day. Now, the streets are empty. He has no problem getting around. People are nicer, too. Some customers barely opened the door or avoided eye contact. After the outbreak erupted, everyone said thank you.

1Why Zhang Sai couldn’t send food to customers’ doors?

A.To keep away from the deadly disease.

B.To reduce the chance of being transmitted.

C.To avoid communicating with others.

D.To give himself a day off.

2What does the underlined word “relented” in paragraph 1 refer to?

A.promisedB.denied

C.admittedD.refused

3What advantages did the epidemic bring accidently?

A.Economic prosperity and long culture.

B.Busy business and peaceful people.

C.Splendid surroundings and energetic persons.

D.Empty streets and friendly people.

4What can be the best title for the text?

A.The biography of Zhang Sai’s.

B.How did Zhang Sai send food?

C.The driver Zhang Sai during the epidemic.

D.How was Zhang Sai infected?
