【題目】Making a Good First Impression

It's important to make a good first impression with people. Whether they're a customer or a potential friend, you want them to think highly of you. If they don't, you're not likely to make much progress moving forward. 1 Before you've even opened your mouth, people have already formed an opinion of you based on your body language. With that in mind, it's a good idea to change how you present yourself to ensure you're not giving off a bad atmosphere.

It's all in the face.

Any honest and fair person is going to be looking at your face when you're talking to them. Of course, that means whatever is going on up there will be picked apart more than anything else you do. 2 In the right circumstances, it will express warmth and show you to be welcoming, something that's unbelievably important for the first impression. Moreover, make sure to keep eye contact as often as possible It shows that you're focusing on them, especially when they're talking.

3

So many of us close our arms without thinking about it,but that's one of the biggest no-nos when it comes to first impressions. Standing there with your arms folded is going to set you apart from the crowd for all the wrong reasons. 4 This will drive people away from you very quickly and make a poor first impression.

Show your interest.

5 The wrong movements or positions can signal that you don't care what the other person has to say. Fortunately, there are non-verbal cues (暗示)you can make which will show your interest without going overboard. These include things like leaning forward and giving purposeful nods. Small gestures like this show that you're taking part in the conversation and not invested (投入的)in something happening over their shoulder.

A.Open up your body.

B.Stand close to others in conversation.

C.Show your interest when others are talking.

D.However, there's more to the first impression than what you say.

E.Body language shows whether you're interested in someone or not.

F.It gives people the impression that you're bored and don't want to be there.

G.Make sure that you smile as often as possible if it's acceptable in the situation.

Imagine that work had taken over the world. It would be the centre around which the rest of life turned. Then all else would come to be subservient(服從于)to work. Then slowly, almost unconsciously, anything else-the games once played, the songs sung now,the loves fulfilled, the festivals celebrated-would come to resemble and finally become work.

And how,in this world of total work, would people think and sound and act?Everywhere they looked, they would see the pre- employed,employed,post-employed,underemployed and unemployed, and there would be no one uncounted in this census(人口普查)。Everywhere they would praise and love work wishing each other the very best for a productive day, opening their eyes to tasks and closing them only to sleep.Everywhere virtue of hard work would be championed as the means by which success is to be achieved, laziness being considered as the gravest sin(罪孽)。 Everywhere among content-providers,knowledge-brokers,collaboration architects and heads of new divisions would be heard endless chatter about workflows, about plans and benchmarks(基準(zhǔn))。

In this world, eating, resting, exercising, meditating and commuting(act of travelling back and forth between home and work)would all be beneficial to good health, which would,in turn,be put in the service of being more and more productive. No one would drink too much, and some would just take a little of psychedelics(迷幻劑)to enhance their work performance.

What is so disturbing about total work is not just that it causes needless human suffering but also that it removes the forms of playful contemplation(沉思)concerned with our asking, thinking and answering the most basic questions of existence. There is,to begin with, constant tension,an dominant sense of pressure associated with the thought that there's something that needs to be done, always something I'm supposed to be doing right now.Secondly, one feels guilt whenever he is not as productive as possible

The burden character of total work, then,is defined by ceaseless, restless, upsetting activity, anxiety about the future,a sense of life being overwhelming,thoughts_about missed opportunities, and guilt connected to the possibility of laziness. In short, total work necessarily causes dukkha,a Buddhist term referring to the unsatisfactory nature of a life filled with suffering.

In addition to causing dukkha, total work blocks access to higher levels of reality. For what is lost in the world of total work is art's disclosure of the beautiful, religion's glimpse of eternity(永恒), love's pure joy,and philosophy's sense of wonderment(a feeling of pleasant surprise or admiration). All of these require silence, stillness,a wholehearted willingness to simply understand.

【題目】 Australian consumers in Adelaide are taking part in a study to help realize the potential for edible(可食用的)insects as a food industry. Consumers' attitudes are being put to the test at Adelaide Central Market with an offering of roasted crickets and ants, mealworm cookies and cricket energy bars.

Researchers want to further probe consumers' attitudes towards edible insects, and evaluate taste preferences and consumers5 willingness to buy such products. In an earlier online survey of 820 Australian consumers, the researchers found that 20% had tried edible insects. Of those surveyed, 46% said they'd be willing to try a cookie made from insect flour.

" In the earlier survey, consumers said they were most likely to try flavored or roasted insects and least likely to want to try cockroaches or spiders," Dr Crump says. "In this taste test, we've chosen products that consumers are most likely to react positively towards―apologies to anyone keen to try a cockroach or spider. The samples we'll be offering consumers provide a good spread of the available insect products in Australia' s marketplaces, some of which may be more acceptable than others."

Dr Crump says the research will help guide the development of an edible insect industry. In Australia, edible insects remain a new agricultural industry. Consumer research is needed to improve consumer acceptance of edible insects, so as to realize their potential as an alternative protein(蛋白質(zhì))source.

Professor Kerry Wilkinson says edible insects could play a role in global food security. "Problems such as climate change, increasing global population, shortage of agricultural land and rapidly changing consumer preferences are common, particularly in developing countries where there is an increasing demand for high quality animal protein," he says. "These food security problems will only be overcome by a change in food consumption habits. Edible insects could provide one solution. We want to look at ways of overcoming barriers to insect consumption in Australia.

1What does the underlined word "probe" in paragraph 2 most probably mean?

A.Explore.B.Influence.C.Describe.D.Compare.

2Why have the researchers chosen certain insect products for the taste test?

A.Because they are richer in protein than other insects.

B.Because it is not difficult to flavor or roast them.

C.Because they are widely acceptable in Australia.

D.Because they are probably to consumers' taste.

3In Kerry Wilkinson's opinion, how can consumers help remove food security problems?

A.By taking in less animal protein.

B.By changing their eating habits.

C.By expanding agricultural land.

D.By controlling their appetite.

4What can be the best title for the text?

A.Insects Make Food Security No Longer a Problem

B.Could Edible Insects Help Global Food Security?

C.Edible Insects Prove an Alternative Protein Source

D.What Counts Most When It Gomes to Edible Insects?
