【題目】

Animal training refers to teaching animals specific responses to specific conditions or stimuli (刺激). Training may be for the purpose of companionship, detection, protection, entertainment or all of the above.

An animal trainer may use various forms of reinforcement (強(qiáng)化) or punishment to condition an animal’s responses. There are many ways to train animals and as a general rule no legal requirements or certifications (證書(shū)) are required.

Chickens

Training chickens has become a way for trainers of other animals (primarily dogs) to perfect their training technique. Bob Bailey, former director of Animal Behavior Enterprises and the IQ Zoo, teaches in chicken training courses where trainers teach chickens to tell different shapes, to navigate an obstacle course and to chain behaviors together.

Fish

Fish can also be trained. For example, a goldfish may swim toward its owner and follow him as he walks through the room, but will not follow anyone else. The fish may swim up and down, signaling the owner to turn on its aquarium (魚(yú)缸) light when it is off, and it will skim the surface until its owner feeds it. Pet goldfish have also been taught to perform more complicated tasks, such as doing the limbo (a kind of dance) and pushing a miniature soccer ball into a net.

PigS

Among all animals, they are the third cleverest — monkeys, dolphins and pigs. Scientists think the training of pigs is easier than the training of dogs and cats. Pigs have a very good sense of smell. They can find things nearby or faraway. They can also help the police to find out drugs at an airport or at a train station.

1Which is true according to the passage?

A. Most people train animals because they need friends.

B. Training animals requires some certifications.

A. be trained to follow anyone

B. turn on its aquarium light when it is off

3Scientists think the training of pigs is easier because .

A. pigs do not bite like dogs

B. the pigs are smart animals

C. pigs have a good sense of hearing

D. pigs can help find out 4rugs at an airport

4The underlined word “miniature” means much than a normal one.

The Japanese like parties. From ancient times, a party becomes enlivened (活潑) when someone starts singing and others keep applauding.Having such a custom, the Japanese can easily sing in front of others without feeling embarrassed. This seems to be one of the reasons that karaoke has been largely accepted in Japanese society.

It is now widely recognized that the use of karaoke started at a snack bar in Kobe City, one of the three biggest cities in Japan. It is said that when a guitarist could not come to perform at the bar due to illness, the owner of the bar prepared tapes of accompaniment recordings, and people enjoyed singing to the tapes.

It was at that time that karaoke appeared.Holding a microphone and singing a song to the accompaniment of an “orchestra (管弦樂(lè)隊(duì))”, you can feel like a professional singer. For soldiers living in a stressful society, there is no other entertainment activity that can make them feel so refreshed.

It is a typical way to relax for Japanese businessmen. They use it to take away their stress after work. However, there is an obstacle to this: since most Japanese houses are still made of wood, it would be very annoying to the neighbors to sing into a microphone at night.Seizing upon the opportunity, businessmen created the karaoke box, a roadside facility containing karaoke equipment.Karaoke boxes are soundproofed rooms, closed with a door, placed on roadsides where people can sing. The first “Karaoke box” was placed in a rice camp in the countryside in 1984.It was built from a converted freight car (改裝的貨運(yùn)車(chē)).Now, the karaoke boom has even spread abroad and it has also been attracting the attention of the countries trying to improve their literacy rate (識(shí)字率) as a good educational tool.

【題目】請(qǐng)閱讀下列材料,并按要求用英語(yǔ)寫(xiě)一篇150詞左右的文章。

There are few habits as annoying as someone making us wait. However, some punctually-challenged people have no intention of offending anyone. They still want to keep friends, family and bosses happy. They are often painfully aware and ashamed of the damage their lateness could do to their relationships, reputations, careers and finances.

Johnson, a doctor in New York, says his reputation for being unpunctual can sometimes be attributed to a misunderstanding of opinion. "A friend will ask me to come over, and he'll say ‘come anytime from seven.’But if I do turn up at eight or later, he will be annoyed."

Joanna a teacher in London, for whom the most distressing thing is writing school reports, never makes the deadline for herself. "I always spend weeks carefully considering everything about the reports,"she says,"just for fear that any error arises."

How to Simplify Your Life

Less is more. This is why we say: reduce things by half instead of doubling them, get rid of junk instead of piling it up, relax instead of stressing, slow down instead of speeding up. Apply these principles in your everyday life in a conscious way. You will then find yourself well along on your journey to simplification.

【1】_________

When you concentrate on one task, you find you have energy that you didn't even know you had. Just imagine: you are at a fair and you have to carry two heavy pigs over 100 yards. If you keep grabbing one and then the other, it will take forever, because one of them will keep slipping out from under your arm and running off. But if you tie one pig in a place, pick up the other, gather all your strength and make a dash for the finish line, pause for a moment, run back and get the other one, and with great determination, carry the second pig to the finish line, then you can be sure of success.

2_________

The pressure at work is on the increase in all occupations. In the modern nuclear family, the expectations that formerly would have been shared among all the relatives are now concentrated on the individual partner. If you have the feeling that 24 hours per day are not enough for all the things you need to do, then it's not because the day has too few hours, but because you have too many activities. A simple fact that overloaded people often tend to forget. The solution is equally simple: refuse to accept so many work assignments in your private life or your working life.

3___________

“I can handle stress” is regarded as a positive statement in the world of work. People who can handle stress are given more and more to cope with -- until one day they break. Pay careful attention to the signs that tell you that you are under more stress than you can cope with. These signals came from various areas of life. You become ill, or your work efficiency decreases. If you have any of these symptoms, change your life goals and decrease your tolerance of stress. Say quite openly, "I can't manage that."

4________

“If only I were slimmer, more beautiful, richer, cleverer, then I would be happier.” This is a dream that makes a lot of people ill, depressed, and unhappy. Life has its flaws, defects, corners, and edges. Only those who accept this reality can lead a really full life. Of course there are activities in which errors are dangerous: driving a car; crossing the road. But life doesn't consist entirely of these things. In among them there is a lot of room for small and large mistakes.

5_______

Successful people all have their own places where they can withdraw in order to work. Find out which places improve your creativity. For me it's the train. When I know that I'm going to be traveling for four hours without phone calls and people knocking on my door, I find my mind is free and I can read or write complex articles. There can be problems working on the train, of course: if the person sitting opposite you keeps talking away, or if train traps make you tired (some people fall asleep after a few miles).

Students today should do more reading. Indeed, the importance of reading can never be very stressed. First of all, reading, especial out-of-class reading, enrich our mind and broadens our horizons. Through reading, we learn what can’t be learnt in our classrooms. Beside, reading is also a way of relaxation. This is very refreshing to read a story before going to bed, or after a day of the study. There were many famous sayings about reading, like “Reading is to the mind that exercise is to the body”. Then how can we develop the habit of reading? In the first place, I believe we should start from an early age, then stick on it and never give up. Secondly, we should read what we are interested and also what is proper for us.
