【題目】It's 5:00 in the morning when the alarm (鬧鐘) rings in my ears. I roll out of bed and walk blindly through the dark into the bathroom. I turn on the light and put on my glasses. The house is still as I walk downstairs while my husband and three kids sleep peacefully. Usually I go for a long run, but today I choose my favorite exercise DVD, Insanity. Sweat pours down my face and into my eyes. My heart races as I force my body to finish each movement. As I near the end of the exercise,I feel extremely tired, but a smile is on my face. It's not a smile because the DVD is over, but a smile of success from pushing my body to its extreme limit.
Some people enjoy shopping, smoking, food, work, or even chocolate. But I need exercise to get through each day. Some shake heads when they see me run through the town. Others get hurt when I refuse to try just one bite of their grandmother's chocolate cake. They raise their eyebrows, surprised by my “no thank you,” or by my choice to have a salad. Over the years, I have learned it's okay to just say “no”. I shouldn't feel sorry for refusing food that I don't want to eat.
So what drives me to roll out of bed at 5:00 a. m.? What gives me the reason to just say no to ice cream? Commitment. A commitment to change my life with a way that reduces daily anxiety, increases selfconfidence and energy, extends life and above all improves my body shape. This is the point where a smile appears on my face as I look at myself in the mirror or try on my favorite pair of jeans that now fit just right. It's through commitment and sweat that I can make a difference within myself inside and out.
【1】Why is there a smile on the author's face in the morning?
A. Because she sees her family sleeping peacefully.
B. Because she finishes her favorite exercise.
C. Because she enjoys the interesting DVD.
D. Because she feels a sense of achievement.
【2】Which of the following is TRUE according to Paragraph 2?
A. She doesn't treat others politely.
B. She likes to make others surprised.
C. Others don't understand what she does.

【3】What does the underlined word “Commitment” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Good health. B. Firm belief.
C. A strong power. D. A regular habit.
【4】What can we learn about the author from the text?
A. She acts in a strange way.
B. She wants to look different from others.
C. She aims to develop a good body shape.
D. She has difficulty getting along with others.

Pupils in Warwickshire will soon be learning Mandarin after new links were forged(建立聯(lián)系) with a region in China.
Head teachers from the county spent a week in Shenzhen in South-east China, making links with schools and touring different education establishments.

The trip was arranged by Warwickshire County Council and funded by the British Council as the first stage of development of a range of ties with the economically booming city.
International development officer Judith Young said: “We are entering an exciting period of school relation between Warwickshire and Shenzhen. There is a real appetite for sharing ideas among the Chinese. We were able to see the differences and similarities between the education systems and there are many areas in which our schools, teachers and pupils will be able to benefit from a different cultural perspective(觀點) and links with a country that is becoming very important on the world stage.
Throughout the high profile(引人注目) visit led by our county education officer, Eric Wood, our group was made to feel very welcome and attracted a great deal of interest. Our visit to a primary school was featured as the main news item on television that night. 【題目】Many young people these days adore the advertised magazine body and become too focused on attaining this image instead of worrying more about what lasts and even grows over time. But could you imagine being considered beautiful for years, and suddenly being ugly after moving to another continent? It is a sad reality that people don’t realize how vacillating the idea of beauty can be from one country to another.
Think of the most typical American girl you know. Is she blonde haired with white skin and light eyes, and does she love shopping or sports? Now place this girl in the heart of Africa, a place where beauty is placed on what you can control. The Maasai tribe in Kenya focuses on how clean people are, and how stylish their piercings (穿孔) are. This tribe’s culture is to be a brave fighter, so they will cut their skin with patterns in it to show that they are strong. If you don’t look fierce, you are not beautiful.
Other countries like North Korea and South Korea have their own unique views on beauty. In an interview, a woman who has lived in both North and South Korea claims that beauty in North Korea is based more on your ability to be a good woman and wife. She says that women in North Korea are less concerned about fashion and beauty in the physical sense. She says they did have a time when big eyes were a big deal and everyone wanted to get double eyelid surgery. This is something extreme and could perhaps be influenced by Western culture. And the idea of getting surgery done to look more attractive is crazy.
【1】What does the underlined word “vacillating” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Inconsistent. B. Reasonable. C. Unusual. D. Similar.
【2】The Maasai tribe in Kenya is mentioned to show that in their eyes _______.
A. getting dirty is stylish
B. looking fierce is beautiful
C. strong people cut their skin
D. American girls love shopping
【3】According to the woman interviewed, women in North Korea now_______.
A. care a lot about their appearance
B. put the beauty of eyes in the first place
C. pay great attention to their ability
D. are crazy about double eyelid surgery
【4】What does the text mainly tell us?
A. Inner beauty is of great importance.
B. Ideas of beauty vary among culture groups.
C. Different ways are needed to admire true beauty.
D. Fashion magazines easily influence young people.
