“Ants aren’t smart,” Gordon says. “Ant colonies are.” A colony can solve problems unthinkable for individual ants, such as finding the shortest path to the best food source, assigning workers to different tasks, or defending a territory from neighbors. As individuals, ants might be tiny dummies, but as colonies they respond quickly and effectively to their environment. They do it with something called collective intelligence.
Where this intelligence comes from raises an essential question in nature: How do the simple actions of individual ants add up to the complex behavior of a group? How do hundreds of honey-bees make a critical decision about their hive (蜂巢)if many of them disagree? The collective abilities of such animals --- one of which grasps the big picture, but each of which contributes to the group’s success --- seem miraculous even to the biologists who know them best. Yet during the past few decades, researchers have come up with fascinating insights.

When I was young, I lived in the countryside. At that time, the trees there were very green, that left a deep impression on me and the water there was so much clear that I even could see the fish swimming. When it gets dark, the air was cooler than it in the daytime. People liked to walk out their houses to chat together. I liked to play games with my friends but ran along the village happily. This semester the sports meeting hold in our school was unforgettable. Our class attended the opening parade, for that we had made a lot of preparations. Our parade took on the shape of the letter “V”, which indicated victory for them. To our excitement, our parade performance was great success. As usual, the games started before the opening parade. My classmates attended a lot of event such as running, high jump and long jump. Due to the hard training the athletes had done before, their performances were particular impressive. On the stand, we applauded and cheer for the athletes, some raise their cameras to capture the exciting moments. Finally, the result was announced. It was amazing that our class came first. Our efforts were paid off!
