39.C  推理判斷題  根據(jù)The northern part of this country is inside the Arctic Circle可知芬蘭的北部在北極圈內(nèi),而并非全部,因此A項(xiàng)錯(cuò)誤;根據(jù)Finland is perhaps the most beautiful and mysterious(神秘的)of the countries of northern Europe可知芬蘭是北歐的國家,而不是靠近北歐的國家,B項(xiàng)錯(cuò)誤;根據(jù)where almost no trees can grow because of its cold weather and the people use their deer for transport, clothing and food. Finland was conquered by its western neighboring Sweden"可推斷C項(xiàng)正確.
40.B  細(xì)節(jié)理解題   根據(jù)In about 1155,F(xiàn)inland was conquered by its western neighbouring Sweden. After a period of rule by Denmark in the 14th century, the Swedes won back independence and power in 1523 under their brave king,可知芬蘭在大約1151年被鄰國瑞典征服;在14世紀(jì)時(shí)受丹麥統(tǒng)治;1523年瑞典再次統(tǒng)治芬蘭;在拿破侖戰(zhàn)爭期間,芬蘭的統(tǒng)治權(quán)最后從瑞典過渡給俄國,蘇俄成立后不久即1919年芬蘭獨(dú)立.
41.A  細(xì)節(jié)理解題  根據(jù)During the Napoleonic Wars (1814-1818)Finland was passed finally from Sweden to Russia. The opportunity came in 1917.Shortly after Soviet Russia made peace with Germany,1919 saw the founding of the Finnish Republic.
42.D  細(xì)節(jié)理解題   文中的"…1919 saw the founding of the Finnish Republic"這句話意思是1919年芬蘭共和國成立,因此D項(xiàng)正確.

"You can be as good as you want to be,"Margrave said rather mysteriously.On a piece of paper he drew the notes E and F.He showed me where to put my fingers on the neck of the cello and how to draw the bow.Then he entered my name in his book:10am,Tuesday.Tuesday followed Tuesday,and soon it was spring.
Thus began my voyage out of ignorance and into the dream.E-F,E-F,we played together-and moved on to G.It was a happy time.I was again becoming something new,and no longer trapped as the same person.Surely the most terrible recognition of middle life is that we are past changing.We dowhat we can already do.The cello was something I couldn't do.Yet each Tuesday this became less and less true.Riding home on the bus one snowy night and learning the score of Mozart's C-Major Quintet(莫扎特的C大調(diào)五重奏),I felt the page burst into music in my hands.I could by ten more or less read a score,and was humming(哼唱)the cello line,when suddenly all five parts came together harmonically(和諧地) in my head.The fellowsitting opposite stared.I met his glance with tears,actually hearing the music in my head for the first time.Could he hear it too,perhaps?No,he got off at the next stop.As the years slipped by,my daughter grew up,playing the piano well.My goal was that she and I would one day perform together.I also wanted to perform in public with and for my peers,and to be secretly envied.I continued to play,to perform,but it is not the same.Before,when I heard a cello,it was all beauty and light.Now,as the TV camera gets close to Rostropovich's face,I recognize that his smile shows his incredible determination.Even for him,the cello is a difficult instrument that doesn't respect your ambitions.I picked up my cello and practiced.As good as I wanted to be,I am as good as I'm going to get.It is good enough.

Much meaning can be conveyed clearly with our eyes, so it is often said that eyes can speak.

1.In a bus you may look at a stranger, but not for too long. And if he sensed that you are staring at him, he may feel uncomfortable.

The same is true in our daily life. If you are stared at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. 2.. Eyes do speak, right?

Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive.3.. If a man stares at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to look away from her, his intentions are obvious. He wishes to attract her attention, and let her know that he is admiring her.

However, when two persons are engaged in a conversation, the speaker will only look into the listener’s eyes from time to time to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking.4.If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking as if he trying to control you, you will feel awkward. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim. He wrongly believes that looking straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication. 5.

Actually, eye contact should be made based on specific relationship and situation.

A. On the contrary, it will give him away.

B. Do you have such a kind of experience?

C. That’s what normal eye contact is all about.

D. Actually, continuous eye contact is limited to lovers only.

E. After all, everybody likes to be stared at for quite a long time.

F. But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex.

G. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel annoyed at being stared at that way.

As a young girl growing up in the 1930s, I always wanted to fly a plane, but back then it was almost unheard of for a woman to do that. I got a taste of that dream in 2001, when my husband arranged for me to ride in a hot air balloon for my birthday. But the experience turned out to be very dull. Around that time, I told my husband that I wanted to skydive. So when our retirement community announced that they were having an essay competition and the topic was an experience of a lifetime that you wanted to have, I decided to write about my dream.

In the essay, I wrote about my desire to skydive, stating George Brush Sr. did it at age 80. Why not me? I was just 84 and in pretty good health. A year went by and I heard nothing. But then at a community party in late April 2009, they announced that I was one of the winners. I just couldn’t believe it. Inspired by this, I decided to realize my dream, even though some of my family members and my doctor were against it.

On June 11, 2009, nearly 40 of my family and friends gathered in the area close to where I would land while I headed up in the airplane. My instructor, Jay, guided me through the experience. The plane was the noisiest one I had ever been in, but I wasn’t frightened—I was really just looking forward to the experience. When we reached 13,000 feet, Jay instructed me to throw myself out of the plane. When we first hit the air, the wind was so strong that I could hardly breathe. For a second I thought, “What have I gotten myself into?” But then everything got calmer. We were in a free fall for about a minute before Jay opened the parachute(降落傘), then we just floated downward for about five minutes. Being up in the clouds and looking at the view below was unlike anything I have ever felt—much better than the hot air balloon. I was just enjoying it.

Skydiving was really one of the greatest experiences of my life. I hope other people will look at me and realize that you don’t stop living just because you are 84 years old. If there’s something you want to experience, look into it. If it’s something that is possible, make it happen.

Spider monkeys have long, thin arms with hooklike hands that allow them to swing through the trees. They do not have opposable thumbs(對生拇指).

The brown-headed spider monkey has a prehensile(纏繞性的)tail, which means it can grasp and can be used like a fifth leg to grab trees. During the day, the spider monkey searches for fruits, which make up the main part of its diet. They will also eat flowers, seeds, leaves, and small insects during the dry season when fruits aren’t available. They spend most of the daylight hours climbing and swinging through the high branches of trees.

The brown-headed spider monkey lives in a large community of about 20 to 100 male and female monkeys. They split into smaller groups for feeding. Females usually give birth to only a single baby each year or two. Young monkeys are carried on their mothers’ stomachs until about 16 weeks old. Then they are strong enough to ride on their mothers’ backs. All brown-headed spider monkey babies are born with a pink face and ears.

Spider monkeys hug each other and wrap their tails around each other. They are very intelligent and have strong memories. They were named spider monkeys because they look like spiders as they hang upside down from their tails with arms and legs swinging. Their genus (屬)name is Ateles, which means “imperfect”. This refers to the fact that they don’t have thumbs.

Hunting the brown-headed spider monkey is now barred in Ecuador, a country in northwestern South America, but humans have killed them for their meat for hundreds of years.

A. insects B. fruits

C. flowers D. leaves

2.What can we learn about spider monkeys?

D. Their genus is the same as spiders’

3.What does the underlined word “barred” in the best paragraph refer to?

4.Where do newly-born spider monkeys stay?

A. In a large community

B. In trees with high branches

C. On their mothers’ backs

D. On their mothers’ stomachs
