【題目】“Our aim is to take our art to the world and make people understand what it is to move.” said David Belle, the founder of Parkour (跑酷).
Do you love running? It is a good exercise, yet many people find it boring. But what if making your morning jog a creative one? Like jumping from walls and over gaps, and ground rolls? Just like the James Bond in the movie Casino Royale? Bond jumps down from a roof to a windowsill and then runs several blocks over obstacles on the way. It is just because of Bond’s wonderful performances that the sport has become popular worldwide.
Yes, that’s Parkour, an extreme street sport aimed at moving from one point to another as quickly as possible, getting over all the obstacles in the path using only the abilities of the human body. Parkour is considered as an extreme sport. As its participants dash around a city, they may jump over fences, run up walls and even move from rooftop to rooftop.
Parkour can be just as exciting and charming as it sounds, but its participants see Parkour much more than that.
Overcoming all the obstacles on the course and in life is part of the philosophy(理念) behind Parkour. This is the same as life. You must determine your destination, go straight, jump over all the barriers as if in Parkour and never fall back from them in your life, to reach the destination successfully. A Parkour lover said, “I love Parkour because its philosophy has become my life, my way to do everything.”
Another philosophy we’ve learnt from Parkour is freedom. It can be done by anyone, at any time, anywhere in the world. It is a kind of expression of trust in yourself that you earn energy and confidence.

【題目】We are naturally drawn to friends and colleagues with familiar voices, scientists have found. People prefer those who have a similar accent, intonation and tone of voice to themselves, they discovered.
Previous research has focused on how a male or female voice sounds. Men with deeper voices and women with slightly higher voices were thought to sound more attractive, because they suggest a bigger or a smaller body.
But the new study, published by a linguistics expert in Canada, suggests there is a more complex mechanism(機(jī)制)at play. Dr Molly Babel, from the University of British Columbia in Canada, said, “The voice is an amazingly flexible tool that we use to construct our identity. Very few things in our voices are changeless, so we felt that our preferences had to be about more than a person’ s shape and size.’’
She recorded 30 volunteers’ voices and asked each to rate the others’ attractiveness on a scale of one to nine. Each participant was from western America, with similar accents. The people we assessed were all in the same dialect group, but they showed that dialect to different degrees.
“We seem to like people who sound like we sound, we like people who fit within what we know, ”Dr Babel said. She also found that breathy voices in women-typified by the famous American actress Marilyn Monroe-were seen as more attractive.
The breathy tone, caused by younger and thinner vocal cords(聲帶), implied youthfulness and health. A creaky (咯吱作響的)voice, suggesting a person has a cold, is tired or smokes, was seen as unattractive. The participants preferred men who spoke with a shorter average word length and deeper voices.
【1】The main purpose of the text is to ___________.
A. inform readers of the new findings of voices
B. compare male voices with female voices
C. argue against women’s voices of speaking
D. encourage men to use deeper voices to speak
【2】Dr. Molly Babel mentions Marilyn Monroe in order to________.
A. introduce a creaky voice B. explain a breathy voice
C. challenge previous research D. promote her reputation
【3】In terms of voice preferences, the new findings stress ________.
A. body size and shape
B. shorter word length
C. thicker vocal cords
D. the same social groups
【4】Whose voice may be unattractive according to the text?
A. A young lady with a thin voice
B. An old lady with a silvery voice
C. A deep-voiced man with a dry throat
D. A little man with a quiet and gentle voice

【題目】If you love adventure and excitement, then Erin Hunter's best-selling Warriors series is for you. The fantasy books follow four cat clans(家族) as they try to survive in the wilderness. In the latest book, Thunder Clan warrior Ashfur has been mysteriously murdered. This sets three warrior cats named Holly leaf, Lion blaze and Jay feather on a journey to find the killer.
The three friends must deal with other problems, too. Jay feather is searching for his parents, but he must make up many lies to find them. Holly leaf encounters her own obstacles when her clan refuses to follow the warrior code. And Lion blaze discovers some unbelievable secrets. All the while, the cats face many dangers and the chance that another warrior will disappear forever.
“Erin Hunter” is really a pen name for Victoria Holmes and two other authors, Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry. They chose Hunter to cover the three of them because of Redwall, a very successful book written by Brian Jacques. It is a similar animal fantasy about rats and mice. Because Warriors was going to fit into that bracket,_they wanted their books to go onto the bookshelves next to his. So they needed a name that would be close to Jacques alphabetically(按字母排序地). Hunter fits perfectly.
“My favorite character is Jay feather. You never know if he is on the side of the angels or not. He's got a quite dark side. In terms of the cat that I would like to be my best friend, that would be Cinderpelt. She is so cool. She has a great sense of humor and she is a good medicine cat. Even if she wanted to be a warrior, she will make the best of her destiny. I really admire that in her,” said Victoria Holmes.
【1】The three warrior cats go on a journey mainly to ________.
A. survive in the wilderness
B. protect another warrior from disappearing
C. find the killer that murdered Ashfur
D. look for some adventure and excitement
【2】From the second paragraph, we can learn that ________.
A. Jay feather likes to tell lies and is unreliable
B. the warrior code of Holly leaf's clan is terrible
C. the journey is not easy for the three cats
D. there are lots of unbelievable secrets among the clans
【3】The underlined word“bracket” in the third paragraph most probably means “________”.
A. range B. level
C. angle D. species
【4】Which of the following is NOT mentioned about Cinderpelt?
A. She has a sense of humor.
B. She is on the side of the angels.
C. She makes the best of her destiny.

The art of growing dwarf trees, or “bonsai”(盆景) as their Japanese planters call them, is increasing in popularity in the United States. Growing bonsai can make a fascinating hobby for anyone who enjoys plants and creating beautiful effects with them. 【1】
In growing bonsai, in fact, one must be careful in choosing the type of tree, as the growing conditions are unusual. 【2】Varieties of pines with small needles and hardwood trunks are especially suitable.
【3】This is necessary because the major growth of bonsai is kept confined(被限制) to the tree’s trunk and leaves, not its root system—a process quite unlike what is done with other plants.
Another thing the bonsai-grower must do is to trim (修整) the roots and branches of the tree periodically (定期地). Unless this is done, the plants will not have the proper proportions(比例) and will look unnatural. 【4】
The last thing one must do is to be careful to keep the tree well-watered. Because bonsai are grown in smaller-than-usual containers, they often need more water than ordinary houseplants do.
As can be seen from the above, the art of bonsai-growing is one which requires a certain amount of time and effort. 【5】Imagine having such a tree in your living room and passing it down through several generations of your family. That is exactly what bonsai-growing is all about: establishing a tradition of beauty which lasts for years and years and is a symbol of the beauties of the natural world.
A. Then one must be careful in choosing the size of the container.
B. How can we meet the goal of making such a kind of art?
C. Why do so many people take a fancy to the art of bonsai-growing.
D. But one must get well prepared before starting bonsai-growing.
E. The satisfactions that growing bonsai brings can be great, however.
F. The ideal for bonsai plants are trees just like normal trees in everything but size.
G. Not all species of trees can be made into bonsai.

【題目】Humans were designed to stand upright(直立). And yet in this modern world, too many of us spend our days with our heads lowered for a simple reason: we’re staring at the tiny screen of a smart phone.
People spend an average of 2 to 4 hours each day with their neck bent while shooting off emails or texts. That’s 700 to 1,400 hours a year. The success of social media has led to a rapid development of bad smart phone posture.
The average adult head weighs 10 to 12 pounds when it’s in the upright position. However, because of the gravity, bending your head at a mere 15 degree puts 27 pounds of pressure on your spine(脊椎);a 30 degree neck bend could equal(等于) 40 pounds of pressure; a 45 degree bend adds the force of 49 pounds, according to the research from Dr. Kenneth Hansraj from New York. These stresses may lead to many problems.
It’s no secret that correct posture is better for your back. According to the researchers, good posture is described as ears aligned(成一條直線) with the shoulders. In proper alignment, spinal stress disappeared. It is the best position for the spine. Standing tall doesn’t just make you look better; it improves your health, too. Other studies have found good posture has even been connected to ways of behaving. People who have poorer posture often have poorer physical and emotional health.
The researchers describe bad posture(姿勢(shì))as “the head in a forward position and the shoulders dropping forward in a rounded position”. Bad posture has been connected to many medical problems, including headaches and other problems, depression and heart disease. This is why Hansraj said it’s important to be mindful of your smart phone posture. While it is nearly impossible to avoid the technologies that cause these problems, people should make an effort to look at their phones with a correct posture.
【1】Through the underlined sentence in paragraph 2, the author wants to show that _______.
A. the social media have its bad side
B. the social media have made a great success
C. people have to use social media unavoidably
D. more and more people are using smart phones
【2】What does the third paragraph mainly tell us?
A. It’s healthy to bend your back regularly.
B. Your back is getting exercise as you bend it.
C. The average weight of an adult head always changes.
D. The more you bend your neck, the heavier the head becomes.
【3】What is the correct posture?
A. Bend your head within 15 degrees.
B. Raise and lower your head in turn.
C. Drop your head forward in a rounded position.
D. Keep the positions of the neck and shoulders in a line.
【4】Where does the text most probably come from?
A. A text book. B. A health report.
C. A research plan. D. A book review.

【題目】The Mekong River, for thousands of years, has been the lifeline of the populations that depend on it for survival. The earliest settlements along the river date back to 2100 BC with the first recorded civilization—the Khmer culture of Funan. In the 5th century, the Khmer culture Chenla existed along the Mekong, and the Khmer empire of Angkor was the last great state in the region. Roughly 700 years ago, the Thai people escaped from South China across the Mekong to form the kingdom of Siam (now Thailand), and the Mekong protected Siam from invasions.
In 1540, the Portuguese Antonio de Faria was the first European to discover the Mekong. Although Europeans showed only some interest in the Mekong, the Spanish and Portuguese did make trade expeditions(探險(xiǎn)) to the area, and the Dutch led an expedition up the Mekong in 1641-42. In the mid-19th century, the French led an exploration on the river between 1866 to 1868 and discovered that the Mekong had too many rapids and waterfalls to ever be useful for navigation(航行). From 1893, the French enlarged their control of the river into Laos until the First and Second Indochina Wars ended French involvement(介入) in the region.
The Mekong has long been regarded as the foundation of Southeast Asia's economic growth and prosperity—necessitating(使必要) cooperation between the countries. In 1995, the "Agreement on the Cooperation for the Sustainable Development of the Mekong River Basin" signed by the governments of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam formed the Mekong River Commission (MRC). The MRC facilitates(促進(jìn)) joint management of the shared water resources and cooperation on development issues. In 1996, China and Burma became Dialogue Partners of the MRC.
Today, much of the Mekong remains undeveloped and even unexplored. It is closely tied to the daily lives and culture of over 60 million people, many of whom live in poverty (貧困). However, life along the river is changing, as large dams on the river have been built with plans for many more. Many people now live and work in the towns.
【1】What is the best title for this passage?
A. The Mekong is being damaged by human activities.
B. The Mekong has attracted peoples from the world.
C. The Mekong has helped countries to cooperate.

【2】The French ended their control over the Mekong because _____.
A. the river was unsuitable for navigation B. France lost the Indochina Wars
C. France lost their interest in the river D. Their agreement with Laos came to an end
【3】Why did the Mekong basin countries form the MRC?
A. Much of the river remains undeveloped and unexplored.
B. Many of the people along the river live in poverty.
C. The river is the foundation for their economy.
D. China and Burma came up with the suggestion.
【4】What is the author’s attitude towards the future life of the people?
A. Indifferent(冷漠的). B. Optimistic(樂(lè)觀的). C. Pessimistic(悲觀的). D. Sarcastic(諷刺的).
