7.Taking photographs at a birthday or a wedding has become as natural as blowing out candles or cutting the cake. But our obsession with recording every detail of our happiest moments could be damaging our ability to remember them, according to new research.A study has shown that taking pictures rather than concentrating fully on the events in front of us prevents memories taking hold.
Dr.Linda Henkel, from Fairfield University,Connecticut, described it as the"photo-taking impairment effect".She said,"People often pull out their cameras almost mindlessly to capture a moment to the point where they are missing what is happening right in front of them. When people rely on technology to remember them-counting on the camera to record the event and thus not needing to attend to it fully themselves-it can have a negative impact on how well they remember their exp eriences."
Dr.Henkel a nd her team carried out an experiment in a museum,to learn if taking pictures of the exhibits was hindering the ability of visitors to remember what they had seen.
A group of university students were led on a tour at the Bellarmine Museum of Art at Fairfield University and were asked to either photograph or try an d remember objects on display. The next day their memory was tested. The results showed that people were less accurate in recognising the objects they had photographed than those they had only looked at.It was found that their memory for the details of the objects they had photographed was poorer.
Henkel's lab is currently investigating whether the content of a photo, such as whether you are in it,affects memory. She is also researching whether actively choosing what to photograph might influence what we remember.
Previous research suggests that reviewing photos we have taken does help us remember objects, but only if we take the time.
"Research has suggested that the great volume and lack of organisation of digital photos for personal memories discourages many people from accessing and recalling them.In order to remember,we have to access and interact with the photos, rather than just collect them,"said Dr.Henkel.

19.Micro-Enterprise Credit for Street Youth
Introduction
Although small-scale business training and credit programs have become more common throughout the world,relatively little attention has been paid to the need to direct such opportunities to youth living on the street or in difficult circumstances.Over the past years,Street Kids International (S.K.I.) has been working with partner organizations in Africa,Latin Africa and India to support the economic lives of street children.The purpose of this paper is to share some of the lessons S.K.I.a(chǎn)nd our partner organizations have learned.
Background
Typically,children end up on the streets not due to a single cause,but a combination of factors:the lack of adequately funded schools,the demand for income at home and so on.The street may be attractive to children as a place to find adventurous play and money.However,it is also a place where some children are exposed,with little or no protection,to exploitative employment,and urban crime.
Street Business Partnerships
S.K.I.has worked with partner organizations in Latin America,Africa and India to develop innovative opportunities for street children to earn income.
●The S.K.I Bicycle Courier Service first started in the Sudan.Participants in this enterprise were supplied with bicycles,which they used to deliver parcels and messages,but they were required to pay for it gradually from their wages.
●The Youth Skills Enterprise Initiative in Zambia is a joint program with the Red Cross Society.Street Youths are supported to start their own small business through business training,life skills training and access to credit.
Lessons Learned
The following lessons have emerged from the programs that S.K.I.a(chǎn)nd partner organizations have created.
●It's important for all loans to be linked to training programs that include the development of basic business and life skills.
●Small loans are provided initially for purchasing fixed assets such as bicycles, shoe shining kits.
●All S.K.I.programs have charged interest on the loans,primarily to get the business runners used to the concept of paying interest on borrowing money.Generally the rates have been modest.
Conclusion
There is a need to recognize the importance of access to credit for poor young people seeking to fulfill economic needs.
21.The organization,S.K.I.,aims toA.
A.give business training and loans to street children

A.reject paid employment
B.set up their own business

D.employ other children
23.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?C

17.Ever since I was a kid I had a 6second rule.That means that if I had something I needed to do but didn't want to,I'd count till 6 and do it anyway.My personal rule was to just never ever break that rule,that at 6,I HAD to get it going.Most of the time I'd use it to get out of bed or get out of the bath.Sometimes I'd also use it to restrict my time playing"ok in 6seconds I'll stop playing with my dolls."
As I grew older,I'd use it as a motivation to get it going with my homework,get off messenger,etc.It really worked well,the same rule applied;whatever happens,don't cheat the"rule of 6."Most of the time,I wouldn't even have to count till 6 because I knew it would just mean I d have to do it,so I'd just do it anyway.As an adult,I've pretty much conditioned myself to do things by the rule of 6.I've pretty much mastered most usual things in my life but the rule of 6never fails me when I start something new.Exercising,running,getting cooking,starting reading,it just works for me.
At the time,when I was 6,6 was my favorite number.So just go ahead and pick a number from 1-10 (although Id suggest 3-10)and try it.The important thing is not just to let yourself down.Like any other trick,it only works if you allow it to.
