【題目】Nobody wants to reach the end of their life and experience regret. Instead, we desire to experience satisfaction with the life we’ve been given. 【1】. To live a life without regret in the future, you should try to stay away from the following four common unhealthy habits.
【2】It is good to have a destination to go to but it is the journey that matters in the end. Too often, we live our lives from destination to destination. But life is not lived merely in these destinations. In fact, it is far more often lived in the pathways between them. We should appreciate the joy in the journey rather than always hurry to the next destination.
Be defined by your negative circumstances. Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most. This is an important truth and an important promise. Our lives should not be defined by the negative circumstances that happened in our past. They may have affected our lives, but they do not write the final chapter. 【3】
Focus entirely on yourself. The size of our universe becomes smaller considerably when we place ourselves at the center. 【4】On the contrary, those who see their life as an opportunity to bring joy to others quickly find it themselves.
【5】Every excess (過(guò)量) adds burden to our lives. And yet we continue to pursue and accumulate more than we need—more houses, more cars, more clothes, and more dishes. Owning less means less cleaning, less burden, less anxiety, and less stress each day. It provides the space and opportunity to pursue the things in life that bring lasting satisfaction to our lives.
A. Blame everybody else.
B. Carry more than you need.
C. It is we ourselves who hold the pen.
D. Miss the joy of the journey for the destination.
E. Only a fool believes the wide road is necessarily the right road.
F. The fact is that too many people experience regret at the lives they chose to live.
G. And the people who are most focused on themselves are the least satisfied in life.
【答案】
【1】F
【2】D
【3】C

【題目】We talk about people being “colour-blind” but very few of us are. Even those who describe themselves as colour-blind are normally just colour lack. A strongly, colour-blind person will still be able to tell 20 different colours, compared to the 100 or so that normal-sighted people see.
Pingelap, a tiny island in the Pacific, is a beautiful spot but one that has a’ genetic trouble. It is known as Colour-blind Island because so many people who live on this remote island can only sec in black and white.
Not being able to see in colour is bad enough. But one is lander, Herrol, who’s a fisherman, also struggles in full sunlight because all he sees is a painful burnt-out image. “I find it difficult to go outside in the sun,” he says, “because when it’s sunny I cannot see to do my work.”
But if being truly colour-blind is rare, why is it that around 10% of the population of Pingelap live in a totally black and white world?
Well,we know that in 1780 the population of Pingelap was all but wiped out by a tsunami (海嘯). As few as 20 people survived, one of whom was the king. It’s believed he had a genetic fault that causes colour-blindness and he passed this fault on to his many generations.
There is one advantage. Herrol can see well, really well, in the dark. So when it gets dark, Herrol and his friends get in their boats and hunt flying fish. They hang up flaming torches and the fish are attracted to the flames. “This type of fishing is fun,” Herrol says, “especially if we catch plenty. So even though it’s hard work we enjoy it.”
【1】What is Pingelap famous as?
A. A tiny island.
B. A beautiful island.
C. A mentally troubled island.
D. A colour-blind island.
【2】What .can we infer about Herrol?
A. He may stay at home when it’s sunny.
B. He is interested in burnt-out images.
C. He likes taking photos very much.
D. He doesn’t live in Pingelap any more.
【3】Why are about one-tenth of people in Pingelap seriously colour-blind?
A. Because Pingelap often suffers from tsunamis.
B. Because the king had an unlucky marriage.
C. Because the king’s genetic fault played a role.
D. Because the king made a serious mistake.
【4】What would be the best title for the text?
A. The island of colour-blindness.
B. The disadvantage of Herrol.
C. The history of Pingelap.
D. The advantage of colour-blindness.

【題目】Getting rid of dirt, in the opinion of most people, is a good thing. However, there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt.
In the early 16th century, people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block out disease, as medical opinion had it that washing off dirt with hot water could open up the skin and let ills in.A particular danger was thought to lie in public baths.By 1538, the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom. So did the king of England in 1546.Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a friendly way.Henry Ⅳ, King of France, was famously dirty.Upon learning that a nobleman had taken a bath, the king ordered that, to avoid the attack of disease, the nobleman should not go out.
Though the belief in the merit of dirt was long-lived, dirt has no longer been regarded as a nice neighbour ever since the 18th century.Scientifically speaking, cleaning away dirt is good to health.Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of preventing disease.Yet, it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War II.Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea: clothes need to be whiter than white, cloths ever softer, surfaces to shine.Has the hate for dirt, however, gone too far?
Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays. Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt, which might be responsible for the spread of disease. On the contrary, Mary Ruebush, an American immunologist(免疫學(xué)家), encourages children to play in the dirt to build up a strong immune system. And the latter position is gaining some ground.
【1】The kings of France and England in the 16th century closed bath houses because ____.
A. they lived healthily in a dirty environment
B. they thought bath houses were too dirty to stay in
C. they believed disease could be spread in public baths
D. they considered bathing as the cause of skin disease
【2】Which of the following best describes Henry Ⅳ's attitude to bathing?
A. Afraid. B. Curious.
C. Approving. D. Uninterested.
【3】How does the passage mainly develop?
A. By providing examples.
B. By making comparisons.
C. By following the order of time.
D. By following the order of importance.
【4】What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?
A. To stress the role of dirt.
B. To introduce the history of dirt.
C. To call attention to the danger of dirt.
D. To present the change of views on dirt.

【題目】An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer, a contractor, of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.
The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work.He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.
When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter.“This is your house,” he said, “my gift to you.” What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.
So it is with us.We build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best.At important points we do not give the job our best effort. Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized that we would have done it differently.
Think of yourself as the carpenter.Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board,or erect a wall.Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build.Even if you live it for only one more day, that day deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity. The plaque on the wall says,“Life is a do-it-yourself project.” Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make today.
【1】What did the carpenter plan to do after retirement?
A. Enjoy family happiness. B. Switch to another field.
C. Start his own business. D. Build a house of his own.
【2】How did the contractor plan to deal with the house he asked the carpenter to build?
A. He planned to sell it to one of his customers.
B. He planned to send it to the carpenter as a gift.
C. He planned to fill it with his favorites.
D. He planned to send it to his partner.
【3】What can we know about the last house the carpenter built?
A. It was of low quality.
B. It did not satisfy the contractor.
C. It was perfect in workmanship and materials.
D. It was the best of all the houses he had built.
【4】What does the story intend to tell us?
A. We should focus on the future life.
B. We should react to life rather than act.
C. We should build our houses in life.
D. We should always do our best.

【題目】Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
Online “friends” – a threat to development
The impact of technology on the nature of our friendships has been a much - debated topic since the dramatic rise of social networks. Advances in mobile technology and social networking websites mean we spend more time online than ever before. It is therefore not surprising that so many psychologists, sociologists, and others are eager to give their thoughts on how this is impacting negatively on our society.
There is one element of social networking that is deeply worrying. We find ourselves in a hyper - connected world where people access social media day and night, excited to make announcements about the tiniest details of their lives. Research is starting to show that this culture is negatively affecting not our friendships but our character. Professor Larry D. Rosen says that young people who overuse social networking sites can become ineffective, and display anti -social behavior in their offline lives. But perhaps an even more disturbing effect is that one of our most basic emotions seems to be disappearing --empathy. This is the emotion that allows us to see the world from our friends’ points of view. Without it, we are far less able to connect and form meaningful adult relationships.
Professor Sherry Turkle suggests that people are no longer comfortable being alone. This is something confirmed by a study where 200 university students were asked to go without social media for 24 hours. Many admitted an addiction to their online social network; most complained that they felt cut off from family and friends. And yet being alone is a time when we self-reflect and get in touch with who we really are. It is only when we do this that we can make meaningful friendships with others.
These potential changes in our characters are rather alarming, so it is clear that we can’t neglect those negative impacts of social networks.
