A young man called Low?Carbon Brother become a hit on the Internet in 2011. He is still active in protecting the environment. He suggests living a low?carbon life, which means using less energy in our daily life so that we can help reducing carbon dioxide in the air. For example, she always picks up some waste paper on the street or uses the blank side to write something. While he is watching TV, he always turns up the screen brightness to the minimum and turns off the light. Therefore, he goes to work by bike instead of driving. Some people think what he is doing is just a show. No one can live such a simply life with so many modern invention around us. As far as I am concerned, I am strongly in support his idea and his behavior. Although what he is doing has no huge effect on global warming, but he at least can enjoy a healthy life.

When we hear of dangerous diseases, cancer and heart disease are often what first come
to mind. Recently, a virus called Ebola has reappeared in Guinea, killing 62 people so far. It leads to high fever, bleeding and so on. Ebola can kill 90% of those infected (感染), especially in underdeveloped societies like those in Africa.
Ebola is named after the Ebola River, where it was first discovered in 1976. There are five different types of the Ebola virus, each named after where they first happened: Sudan, Ivory Coast, Reston, Bundibugyo, and Zaire. The deadliest of the five, Zaire, was responsible for the 2012 outbreak, and is believed to be attacking Guinea.
Ebola is naturally found in fruit bats, which pass on the virus to other animals by biting or sucking on their blood. Humans who are suffering from the Ebola infection might have touched the bodily fluids (體液) of the infected animals. Once infected, a human becomes a carrier of the deadly virus.
Since we live in an interconnected world, where the situation in one country can affect us all, the effects of Ebola are huge: damaging trade relations, affecting foreign visitors, and weakening entire countries. Already the Guinea virus is spreading fast with a few cases spotted in Conakry—the capital city of Guinea, far away from the origin of the virus. It is feared that the disease may have already reached neighboring Liberia and Sierra Leone, too.
Unfortunately, there are no disease-specific treatments for Ebola. Healthcare workers only supply the infected people with water to keep them in good condition. Since there have been many cases of nurses catching the disease from patients, they are forced to wear strict protective clothes, and in some cases, not even allowed to get close to the infected. The fact that there is no cure for the Ebola virus is what makes the outbreak a challenging one to control.
1.From the text we know that ________.
A. Ebola is naturally found in fruit
B. Ebola is a highly infectious virus
C. Ebola is a newly discovered disease
D. Ebola is recently controlled in Guinea
2.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The causes of Ebola. B. The origin of Ebola.
C. The treatment for Ebola. D. The influences of Ebola.
3.In Ebola infected areas, healthcare workers _______.
A. face the danger of catching virus
B. take measures to protect the nurses
C. give water and medicine to the patients
D. do whatever they can to save the infected
4.The text probably comes from ________.
A. an English newspaper B. a tourist guide
C. a safety brochure D. a medical report

A new study has discovered that meditation(冥想)and oxygen sport together reduce depression. The Rutgers University study found that this mind and body combination, done twice a week for only two months, reduced the symptoms for a group of students by 40 percent.
“We are excited by the findings because we saw such a meaningful improvement in both clinically depressed and non-depressed students,” said lead author Dr. Brandon Alderman. “It is the first time that both of these two behavioral ways have been looked at together for dealing with depression.”
Researchers believe the two activities have an interactive effect in combating depression. Alderman and Dr. Tracey Shors discovered that a combination of mental and physical training (MAP) enabled students with major depressive disorder not to let problems or negative thoughts defeat them.
Rutgers researchers say those who participated in the study began with 30 minutes of focused attention meditation followed by 30 minutes of oxygen sport. They were told that if their thoughts drifted to the past or the future they should refocus on their breathing, enabling those with depression to accept moment-to-moment changes in attention.
Shors, who studies the production of new brain cells in the hippocampus—part of the brain involved in memory and learning—says scientists have shown in animal models that oxygen sport exercise keeps a large number of certain cells alive.
The idea for the human intervention(干預(yù))came from her laboratory studies, she says, with the main goal of helping individuals acquire new skills so that they can learn to recover from stressful life events.
By learning to focus their attention and exercise, people who are fighting depression can acquire new learning skills that can help them process information and reduce the overwhelming recollection of memories from the past, Shors says.
“We know these treatments can be practiced over a lifetime and that they will be effective in improving mental health.” said Alderman. “The good news is that this intervention can be practiced by anyone at any time and at no cost.”
1.What made the research so different?
A. Adopting a way of meaningful talk.
B. Combining the two behavioral ways to treat depression.
C. Treating depression with special medicine.
D. Comparing the depressed with the non-depressed.
2.The underlined word “combating” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by ______.
A. fighting B. identifying
C. distinguishing D. examining
3.What did the participants do in the research?
A. They did oxygen sport half an hour before thinking.
B. They thought quietly and then took exercise.
C. They took exercise longer than they thought.
D. They took exercise while thinking quietly.
4.What is Shors’ main purpose of her studies?
A. To find out certain brain cells of humans.
B. To study the production of new brain cells.
C. To offer people a new method to treat stress.
D. To decide the links between stress and exercise.

Bars are very important in providing a place where people can meet and make friends. People who enjoy a drink in a local bar are happier and have more friends. They are more likely to be engaged in conversations in small community pubs, and social skills improve after a drink.
Professor Robin Dunbar of Oxford University said, “Friendship and communities are probably the two most important factors influencing our health and well-being. Making and maintaining friendships is something that has to be done in the real world. The digital world is simply no substitute(n.替代物). Given the increasing tendency for our social life to be on the Internet rather than in real life, having relaxed, accessible places where people can meet old friends and make new ones becomes even more necessary.”
Tim Page, chief executive of CAMRA, said, “Bars offer a social environment to enjoy a drink with friends in a responsible community setting. The role of community bars in ensuring well-being cannot be overstated. For that reason, we all need to do what we can to ensure that everyone has a ‘local’ near to where they live or work.”
Bars have long been part of British society and have played a key role in British social life since the 16th century. Bars came to represent the heart and soul of a community, providing both a place of entertainment and an engine for community bonding. In a world before the arrival of the motor car, the bar provided a venue in which people could get friendships and a sense of community.
But the closing decades of the 20th century witnessed major changes in both the style of bars (for example, themed bars) and their numbers. As of 2015, the number of bars declines sharply, with bars continuing to close at an average rate of 29 a week.
1.What does a regular(n.?) at a local bar having more friends prove?
A. The benefits brought by pub cultures
B. The popularity of local bars in Britain.
C. The relation between friendships and bars
D. The importance of face-to-face communication.
2.What does Robin think is the tendency for social life?
A. More people will go to bars.
B. People will maintain friendships
C. People will trust the digital world
D. People will communicate more online.
3.Why does Tim Page value the role of local bars?
A. They contribute to people’s social happiness.
B. They are a place common people can afford.
C. They are a good place to spread cultural values.
D. They are accessible to people in the community.
4.What can we infer about bars nowadays?
A. Themed bars have held the market
B. Some bars have a hard time surviving.
C. They become the heart of a community
D. Measures should be taken to save them.

For many parents, raising a teenager is like fighting a long war, but years go by without any clear winner. Like a border conflict between neighboring countries, the parent-teen war is about boundaries: Where is the line between what I control and what you do?
Both sides want peace, but neither feels it has any power to stop the conflict. In part, this is because neither is willing to admit any responsibility for starting it. From the parents’ point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents’ complete unreasonableness. And of course, the teens see it in exactly the same way, except oppositely. Both feel trapped.
In this article, I’ll describe three no-win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. The first no-win situation is quarrels over unimportant things. Examples include the color of the teen’s hair, the cleanliness of the bedroom, the preferred style of clothing, the child’s failure to eat a good breakfast before school, or his tendency to sleep until noon on the weekends. Second, blaming. The goal of a blaming battle is to make the other admit that his bad attitude is the reason why everything goes wrong. Third, needing to be right. It doesn’t matter what the topic is ---politics, the laws of physics, or the proper way to break an egg---the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong, for both wish to be considered an authority---someone who actually knows something---and therefore to command respect. Unfortunately, as long as parents and teens continue to assume that they know more than the other, they’ll continue to fight these battles forever and never make any real progress.
1.Why does the author compare the parent-teen war to a border conflict?
A. both can continue for generations.
B. Both are about where to draw the line.
C. Neither has any clear winner.
D. Neither can be put to an end.
2.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. The teens blame their parents for starting the conflict.
B. The teens agree with their parents on the cause of the conflict.
C. The teens accuse their parents of misleading them.
D. The teens tend to have a full understanding of their parents.
3.Parents and teens want to be right because they want to ________.
A. give orders to the other
B. know more than the other
C. gain respect from the other
D. get the other to behave properly
4.What will the author most probably discuss in the paragraph that follows?
A. Causes for the parent –teen conflicts.
B. Examples of the parent –teen war.
C. Solutions for the parent –teen problems.
D. Future of the parent-teen relationship.
